  • The optimum design and the performance analysis software called POSEIDON for the HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) was developed by use of BEMT. The Prandtl's tip loss theory was adopted to consider the blade tip loss. The aerodynamic characteristics of NACA 63-415 airfoils were predicted via X-FOIL and the post stall characteristics were estimated by the Viterna's equations. All the predicted aerodynamic characteristics are fairly well agreed with the Velux wind tunnel test results. The rated power of the testing rotor is 1 kW at design conditions. The power, estimated by use of predicted lift and drag coefficient via X-FOIL becomes a little higher than experimental one.

  • This study examined the effect of current density on the surface morphology and physical properties of copper plated on a polyimide (PI) film. The morphology, crystal structure, and electric characteristics of the electrodeposited copper foil were examined by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and a four-point probe, respectively. The surface roughness, crystal growth orientation and resistivity was controlled using current density. Large particles were observed on the surface of the copper layer electroplated onto a current density of 25 mA/$cm^2$. However, a uniform surface and lower resistivity were obtained with a current density of 10 mA/$cm^2$. One of the important properties of FCCL is the flexibility of the copper foil. High flexibility of FCCL was obtained at a low current density rather than a high current density. Moreover, a reasonable current density is 20 mA/$cm^2$ considering the productivity and mechanical properties of copper foil.

  • Electrochemical properties of Cu foil current collector with a $Li_{0.5}La_{0.5}TiO_3$ Cu a Si thin film deposited by r.f sputtering as an anode for Li free battery were evaluated. The Cu foil current collectors were lied in and out of plasma during sputtering process. The X-ray diffraction results indicated that the as-deposited Si and $Li_{0.5}La_{0.5}TiO_3$ thin films in and out of plasma did not show any crystalline difference. The $Li_{0.5}La_{0.5}TiO_3$ film in plasma and Si film out of plasma showed better cyclability since crystalline $Li_{0.5}La_{0.5}TiO_3$ has much higher ionic conductivity and crystalline Si film is much sensitive far volume change during charge-discharge process. These results suggested that the deposition of amorphous Si on Cu foil current collector is much better for fabrication of Li free battery and it can be useful for the unique battery with a cycling number constraint of below 10.

  • In this experimental study we propose the double dielectric barrier discharge(DDBD) reactor to produce as high an electric field as possible. DDBD reactor is designed to remove $NO_x$ at atmospheric pressures from the moving pollution source such as diesel automobile DDBD reactor consisted of two cylinder glass tubes arranged so that the gas flow was directed between the two tubes. Inside of the inner tube was filled with small metal beads and outside of the inner tube was wounded with stainless wire to form the electrode. The outer tube was surrounded by an aluminum foil In this reactor there are three electrodes, i.e. metal bead(C), helical wire(I) and aluminum foil(0). By using DDBD reactor we will report some interesting results of treatment of the gas which is the dilute mixtures of NO in N2. And then we compared thee results with the results of cylinder-wire(CW) which is one of popularly used reactor in non-thermal plasma applications.

  • The paper presents the rotordynamic performance measurements and model predictions of a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) air compressor supported on gas foil bearings (GFBs). The rotor has an impeller on one end and a thrust runner on the other end. The front (impeller side) and rear (thrust side) gas foil journal bearings (GFJBs) are located between the impeller and thrust runner to support the radial loads, and a pair of gas foil thrust bearings are located on both sides of the thrust runner to support the axial loads. The test GFJBs have a partial arc shim foil installed between the top foil and bump strip layers to enhance hydrodynamic pressure generation. During the rotordynamic performance tests, two sets of orthogonally installed eddy-current displacement sensors measure the rotor radial motions at the rotor impeller and thrust ends. A series of speed-up and coast-down tests to 100k rpm demonstrates the dominant synchronous (1X) rotor responses to imbalance masses without noticeable subsynchronous motions, which indicates a rotordynamically stable rotor-GFB system. Finite element analysis of the rotor determines the rotor free-free (bending) natural modes and frequencies well beyond the maximum rotating frequency. The predicted damped natural frequencies and damping ratios of the rotor-GFB system reveal rotordynamic stability over the speeds of interest. The imbalance response predictions show that the predicted critical speeds and rotor amplitudes strongly agree with the test measurements, thus validating the developed rotordynamic model.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fit of metal ceramic crowns made by different techniques. The techniques were metal butt margin technique, platinum foil technique, shoulder powder techniques and wax technique. The latter three techniques were for the fabrication of collarless metal ceramic crowns. Ten crowns were made of each techniques, and marginal fit was evaluated using scanning electron microscope under X200 magnification. The results were as follows. 1. The marginal fit in the descending order were wax technique shoulder powder technique, platinum foil technique and metal butt margin, before cementation, and wax technique, shoulder powder technique, metal butt margin, and platinum foil technique, after cementation. 2. The fit of collarless metal ceramic crowns was comparable to metal ceramic crowns with metal butt margins. 3. There were no statistically significant differences between marginal fit of metal ceramic crowns made by different techniques.

  • Microstructural basis for the thermal degradation of electrodeposited black chrome "solar-L-foil" heated in air has been investigated using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction techniques and UV-VIS-NIR spectre-photometer. Experimental result, the change in the shape of the particle comprising the film from their initial needle like structure to a more spherical shape with an oxide after 1hr annealing at $600^{\circ}C$ has been observed. The effect is to degrade solar absorptance of the thin film.

  • Thermal behavior of $Li_{1-x}CoO_2$ has been investigated employing DSC (Differential Scanning calorimetry) and TGA (Thermogravimetry Analyzer), and the crystal parameters were calculated from XRD (X-ray diffraction).for the commercial rectangular pouch cell(1000 mAh).The cathode materials coated over aluminium foil current collector is made up of a blend consisting of active material $LiCoO_2$(size $20\;{\mu}m$, 94 wt%), conducting material super p black (SPB, 3 wt%) and binder polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF, 3 wt%). The anode is a mix consisting of carbon (92 wt%) and PVDF(8 wt%) coated over copper foil. The cells for the experiments were first preconditioned by cycling three times and stabilized at OCV=3.0, 3.5, 4.2, 4.35 and 4.5 V. The stabilized cathode material was used for thermal and crystal parameter investigations.
