  • We performed the cross-correlation analysis on energy-dependent light curves of the Z-type source GX 5-1. We observed X-ray delays of a few hundred seconds between hard (16-30 keV) and soft (2-5 keV) X-ray light curves. During these phenomena, the centroid frequency of horizontal branch oscillation (HBO) was found to shift to lower or higher frequency indicating towards the dynamical movement of a Compton cloud or an inner disk front. Both eastern and western approaches were used to unfold the X-ray continuum and systematic changes were observed in soft and hard X-ray spectral components. Simultaneous energy spectral and power density spectral study shows that the production of HBOs is closely related to the Comptonizing region rather than the accretion disk. We discuss the results in the context of re-condensation of coronal material in the inner accretion disk region.

  • The combination of angular spin momentum with electronics is a promising successor to charge-based electronics. The conduction bands in GaAs may become spin-polarized via optical spin pumping, doping with magnetic ions, or induction of a moment with an external magnetic field. We investigated the spin populations in GaAs with x-ray magnetic circular dichroism for each of these three cases. We find strong anti-symmetric lineshapes at the Ga $L_3$ edge indicating conduction band spin splitting, with differences in line width and amplitude depending on the source of spin polarization.

  • A miniature X-ray tube based on a carbon-nanotube electron emitter has been employed for the application to a dental radiography. The miniature X-ray tube has an outer diameter of 7 mm and a length of 47 mm. The miniature X-ray tube is operated in a negative high-voltage mode in which the X-ray target is electrically grounded. In addition, X-rays are generated only to the teeth directions using a collimator while X-rays generated to other directions are shielded. Hence, the X-ray tube can be safely inserted into a human mouth. Using the intra-oral X-ray tube, a dental radiography is demonstrated where the positions of an X-ray source and a sensor are reversed compared with a conventional dental radiography system. X-ray images of five neighboring teeth are obtained and, furthermore, both left and right molar images are achieved by a single X-ray shot of the miniature X-ray tube.

  • The x-ray PIV method was improved for measuring quantitative velocity fields of real blood flows using a coherent synchrotron x-ray source. Without using any contrast media or seeding particles, this method can visualize flow pattern of blood by enhancing the phase-contrast and interference characteristics of blood cells based on a synchrotron x-ray imaging mechanism. The enhanced x-ray images were achieved by optimizing the sample-to-scintillator distance, the sample thickness, and hematocrit. The quantitative velocity fields of blood flows inside opaque tubes were obtained by applying a 2-frame PIV algorithm to the x-ray images of the blood flows. The measured velocity field data show typical features of blood flows such as the yield stress effect. The non-Newtonian flow characteristics of blood flows were analyzed using the x-ray PIV method and the experimental results were compared with hemodynamic models.

  • X-ray lithography was employed to fabricate ITO-less high resolution sustain electrodes for plasma display panel (PDP). A polyimide film based X-ray mask and Xray sensitive Ag electrode paste were fabricated to check their effect on the patterning of Ag electrodes with less than 30 ${\mu}m$ in width. The X-ray lithographic method was found to be useful for the high resolution sustain electrode patterns due to the high penetration power and low scattering property of X-ray source.

  • Neutron conversion detectors that use 10B-enriched boron carbide are feasible alternatives to 3He-based detectors. We prepared boron carbide films at micron-scale thickness using direct-current magnetron sputtering. The structural characteristics of natural B4C films, including density, roughness, crystallization, and purity, were analyzed using grazing incidence X-ray reflectivity, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, and scanning electron microscopy. A beam profile test was conducted to verify the practicality of the 10B-enriched B4C neutron conversion layer. A clear profile indicated the high quality of the neutron conversion of the boron carbide layer.

  • Recently, nanostructure and the molecular orientation of organic thin films have been largely paid attention due to its importance in organic electronics such as organic thin film transistors (OTFTs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), and organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Among various methods, the diffraction and scattering techniques based on synchrotron x-rays have shown powerful results in organic thin film systems. In this work, we introduce the in-situ annealing system installed at PLS-II (Pohang Light Source II) for organic thin films by simultaneously conducting various x-ray scattering measurements of x-ray reflectivity, conventional x-ray scattering, grazing incidence wide angle x-ray scattering (GI-WAXS) and so on. Using the in-situ measurement, we could obtain real time variation of nanostructure as well as molecular orientation during thermal annealing in metal-phthalocyanine thin films. The variation of surface and interface also could be simultaneously investigated by the x-ray reflectivity measurement.

  • In order to solve this sort of electrostatic failure in Display and Semiconductor process, Soft X-ray ionizer is mainly used. Soft X-ray Ionizer does not only generate electrical noise and minute particle but also is efficient to remove electrostatic as it has a wide range of ionization. There exist variable factors such as type of tungsten thickness deposited on target, Anode voltage etc., and it takes a lot of time and financial resource to find optimal performance by manufacturing with actual X-ray tube source. Here, MCNPX (Monte Carlo N-Particle Extended) is used for simulation to solve this kind of problem, and optimum efficiency of X-ray generation is anticipated. In this study, X-ray generation efficiency was compared according to target material thickness using MCNPX and actual X-ray tube source under the conditions that tube voltage is 5 keV, 10 keV, 15 keV and the target Material is Tungsten(W). At the result, In Tube voltage 5 keV and distance 100 mm, optimal target thickness is $0.05{\mu}m$ and fastest decay time appears + decay time 0.28 sec. - deacy time 0.30 sec. In Tube voltage 10keV and distance 100 mm, optimal target Thickness is $0.16{\mu}m$ and fastest decay time appears + decay time 0.13 sec. - deacy time 0.12 sec. In the tube voltage 15 keV and distance 100 mm, optimal target Thickness is $0.28{\mu}m$ and fastest decay time appears + decay time 0.04 sec. - deacy time 0.05 sec.
