  • In this paper, the receiver using Heterodyne type is designed and implemented for a pulse radar at 9.4 GHz. The If amplifier, which occupies a significant size in a Heterodyne receiver for pulse radars, can be removed. Furthermore, by using detector logarithmic video amplifier in baseband, the receiver has a small size and it's characteristic shows a high dynamic range and sensitivity. From the results of measurements, the minimum receiver power of -70 dBm and selectivity of 55 dB are obtained.

  • Many of the modern radar antennas operated in the X-band frequencies are made of the slotted waveguides. Varying the distances between the slots and the skew angles of the each slot, we can synthesize a very sharp fan-beam as well as maintaining low standing wave ratio. This paper deals with the design data of the above antennas. We made a slotted array antenna with the data and measured the antenna parameters. And these were compared with the calculated values.

  • In this study, a fan-beam microstrip array antenna for an X-band radar was designed and fabricated using a novel technique. A microstrip array structure was used to obtain a high-gain and narrow horizontal beam-width. The feeding point is located at the center of the antenna because of its $360^{\circ}$ rotational characteristic. The measured results indicate a gain of 23dBi, and a horizontal and vertical beamwidth of $3.57^{\circ}$, $26.12^{\circ}$, respectively. The proposed antenna performed adequately and managed to meet the specifications.

  • A frequency synthesizer of 10 GHz ${\sim}$ 11 GHz for FMCW radar is designed and implemented by the form of indirect frequency synthesizer of a single loop structure. The synthesizer uses a high speed digital PLL chip. It is difficult to divide directly by using a program counter of PLL chip because the output frequency of VCO is 10 GHz ${\sim}$ 11 GHz, so we lower the frequency to 625 MHz ${\sim}$ 687.5 MHz by using a prescaler, and then divide the frequency by the program counter. The output frequency sweep of VCO from 10 GHz to 11 GHz is measured.

  • In this paper, a VCO of a general advance warning system for vehicle's speed limitation in the X-band used in Japan is designed using a small signal scattering coefficient of PHEMT. A varactor diode that wide tuning range and series resistance 0 H is used for designing the VCO and -85 dBc/Hz of phase noise at 10 kHz of offset frequency is obtained by adjusting the reflection coefficient between the micro-strip line and the varactor device which determines transistor's operation voltage and resonant frequency, In addition +4.5 dBm of basic frequency signal output level and -25.6 dEc of the second harmonic constraint are acquired. Sample that produce in this paper could confirm that more excellent special quality appears than existing products in sensitivity.

  • A planar slotted waveguide array antenna has been designed at 9.37 GHz for X-band radar applications. The antenna consists of multiple branchline waveguides with broadwall radiating shunt slots and a main waveguide to feed the branch waveguides through a series of inclined coupling slots. The antenna feed point is located at the center of the main waveguide. Element weights in the array have been calculated bysampling a continuous circular Taylor aperture distribution at the 25 dB sidelobe level in both the E and Hplanes. A commercially available electromagnetic (EM) simulation tool has been used to characterize the individual isolated slot and that data hassubsequently been used to design the planar array. The array is finally analyzed in a CST Microwave studio and the measured and simulated results have been found to be in good agreement.

  • Conventional X-band marine radar has been used as one of the effective tools for collecting and retrieving ocean surface information parameters for three decades. Several wave information extracting algorithms have been designed in such a way that they can be utilized for efficiently estimating sea surface wave parameters such as current velocities, wave direction, significant wave heights in VTS (Vessel Traffic Service). However, their performances are still restricted. For the purpose of overcoming the performance limits, in this paper, first the conventional algorithms are analyzed and their performances are compared, and then a new control algorithm is proposed. Furthermore, we try to improve the estimation performances of typical wave parameters including wave directions and significant wave heights by introducing linear regression model in the process of computing wave information extraction. Through several simulations with the X-band radar images, it is shown that the proposed method is very effective in estimating the wave information compared to the real measured buoy data.
