  • This paper performs an experimental study on the flexural behavior of preloaded reinforced self-compacted concrete beams strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymers CFRP. A group of six preloaded strengthened beams was investigated along with one unstrengthened beam used as a reference beam RB. All beams have the same dimensions and reinforcement details: three beams are strengthened with CFRP laminates against flexural failure and three beams are strengthened with CFRP sheets. For simulating actual conditions, the beams are loaded before strengthening. Then, after strengthening, the beams are tested for flexural strength using 4-point loads where cracked and ultimate load and failure mode, along with load-deflection relation are recorded. To study the different configurations of strengthening, one layer, two layers, and U-wrap formation of laminates and sheets are considered. The results show that strengthing the RC beams using CFRP is an effective method to increase the beam's capacity by 47% up to 153% where deflection is reduced by 5%-80%. So, the beams strengthened with CFRP laminates have higher load capacity and lower ductility in comparison with the beams strengthened with CFRP sheets.

  • A 32-year-old woman diagnosed with Turner syndrome presented to the hospital for an evaluation of cardiovascular complications. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) and echocardiography showed progression of aortic root and ascending aorta dilatation, as well as a bicuspid aortic valve. There was no evidence of aortic regurgitation. We planned valve-sparing aortic root replacement and ascending aorta replacement with a high risk of aortic rupture. Intraoperatively, we incidentally found a juxtacommissural origin of the right coronary artery (RCA). We performed aortic valve reimplantation using a graft designed with a key-shaped hole to wrap the juxtacommissural-origin RCA by modifying the Florida sleeve technique. Coronary blood flow was patent on postoperative CT angiography, and there was no evidence of aortic regurgitation on postoperative echocardiography. The patient was discharged from the hospital on postoperative day 7 without any complications.

  • Real human digital models appear more and more frequently in VR/AR application scenarios, in which real-time markerless face capture animation of personalized virtual human faces is an important research topic. The traditional way to achieve personalized real human facial animation requires multiple mature animation staff, and in practice, the complex process and difficult technology may bring obstacles to inexperienced users. This paper proposes a new process to solve this kind of work, which has the advantages of low cost and less time than the traditional production method. For the personalized real human face model obtained by 3D reconstruction technology, first, use R3ds Wrap to topology the model, then use Avatary to make 52 Blend-Shape model files suitable for AR-Kit, and finally realize real-time markerless face capture 3D real human on the UE4 platform facial motion capture, this study makes rational use of the advantages of software and proposes a more efficient workflow for real-time markerless facial motion capture of personalized 3D real human models, The process ideas proposed in this paper can be helpful for other scholars who study this kind of work.

  • The plume produced by vaporizing tissue with a laser contains a variety of contaminants called laser-generated air pollutants (LGACs). LGACs consist of a mixture of toxic gas components, biomicroparticles, dead and living cells, and viruses. Toxic odors and thick smoke from surgical incisions and the coagulation of tissues can irritate eyes and airways, as well as cause bronchial and pulmonary congestion. Because of the potential risk of the smoke, it is advisable to appropriately remove it from the surgical site. We recommend using a smoke evacuator to remove the smoke. Suction nozzles should be placed as close as possible to the surgical site in a range of 2 cm or less. In-line filters should be used between the inlet and outlet of the surgical site. All air filtration devices should be capable of removing particles below 0.1 microns in size. The filter pack should be handled according to infection control procedures in the operating room. The laser mask can be an auxiliary protective device if it is properly worn. Some smoke inhaled under the nose wrap or over the side of the mask will not be filtered. As in electrosurgical operations, a suitable mask should be worn while smoke is present.

  • The current study targets to apply the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for the estimation of the shear resistance offered by the externally bonded fiber-reinforced polymer (EB-FRP) U-jackets. A total of 202 groups of data cumulated from previous investigations, were employed for the development and evaluation of the ANFIS model. A relative appraisal between the ANFIS predictions and the results of experiments has shown that the assessments by current ANFIS model are in good concurrence with the latter. In addition, assessment of the accuracy of the ANFIS model was done by relating the ANFIS predictions with the forecasts of eight extensively used design guidelines. Based on the examination of various performance measures, it has been derived that the adequacy of the ANFIS model is better than the available guidelines. A parametric investigation has additionally been done to reconnoiter the influence of individual parameters as well as their combined effects on the shear contribution of EB-FRP. Based on the observations made from the parametric study, it has been witnessed that the ANFIS model has incorporated the effect of different parameters more competently than the considered design guidelines.

  • With increasing interest in sustainability, several fashion and beauty brands have developed and offered unique types of sustainable packaging in their stores (e.g., 'knot-wrap,' 'seaweed-based' packaging). The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceived value (i.e., green, aesthetic, functional, emotional, social, self-expression) of unique types of sustainable packaging and its impact on consumers' packaging evaluation, store evaluation, and store patronage intentions in the context of a fashion retail store. This study also assessed the moderating effects of consumer innovativeness and environmental concern. Data were collected from 210 US consumers aged 18 to 26 years through Amazon MTurk. The results of structural equation modeling revealed that green, emotional, self-expression, functional, and aesthetic values perceived from unique types of sustainable packaging had significant positive impacts on packaging evaluation. Packaging evaluation, in turn, positively impacted store evaluation, subsequently influencing store patronage intentions. Consumer innovativeness and environmental concern moderated several paths between the variables. This study adds to the existing literature on sustainable packaging by investigating consumer responses to sustainable packaging that incorporates the 'uniqueness' aspect. Managerial implications regarding the importance of developing and offering unique types of sustainable packaging for fashion brands in their retail stores are discussed.

  • In this study, we aimed to evaluate the quality of Aralia elata shoots according to different packaging methods during storage at 2℃. The highest level of dehydration and wilting incidences were observed in polypropylene containers with polyvinyl chloride wrap (PP+PVC), and these levels continually increased during the entire storage period, compared to other packaging methods. The overall marketability of A. elata shoot packaged in polyethylene terephthalate container (PET) and PP with the mineral-coted functional warp (PP+F) constantly declined during storage with a similar level of 38.6 and 36.0% at 15 days in storage, respectively. PP with PET cover packaging (PP+PET) showed the lowest decay and wilting rates during the entire storage, and the wilting score at 10th day was 51.9, 58.0, 51.8% suppressed, as compared to PET, PP+PVC, and PP+F, respectively. Consequently PP+PET packaging effectively decreased the deterioration of A. elata and maintained marketability for 10 days of storage at 2℃.

  • In this paper, a cable-driven endoscopic manipulator (CEM) is designed for the Chinese latest compact fusion reactor. The whole CEM arm is more than 3000 mm long and includes end vision tools, an endoscopic manipulator/control system, a feeding system, a drag chain system, support systems, a neutron shield door, etc. It can cover a range of ±45° of the vacuum chamber by working in a wrap-around mode, etc., to meet the need for observation at any position and angle. By placing all drive motors in the end drive box via a cable drive, cooling, and radiation protection of the entire robot can be facilitated. To address the CEM motion control problem, a discrete trajectory tracking method is proposed. By restricting each joint of the CEM to the target curve through segmental fitting, the trajectory tracking control is completed. To avoid the joint rotation angle overrun, a joint limit rotation angle optimization method is proposed based on the equivalent rod length principle. Finally, the CEM simulation system is established. The rationality of the structure design and the effectiveness of the motion control algorithm are verified by the simulation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitude and wearing effect of brassiere wearing in 20's female college students. Particularly, by exploring the necessity of wearing a brassiere, the research was carried out to make it possible to use it effectively in the development of brassiere for women in their early 20s. In early 20s, the type of wearing brassiere in female college students was analyzed as three types: function-importance type, inconvenience-accept type, and wearing inconvenient type. Function-importance type, the brassiere corrects the silhouette of the upper body, has a push-up effect that collects the breast, and it was thought that it would not allow the nipple point to fall. By wearing a brassiere, there is a lift-up effect that reduces the vibration of the breast due to movement and raises the bust. Inconvenience-accept type wears a brassiere so that the breast volume can be improved and the nipple point is not visible. And they strongly agreed that the brassiere would wrap my breasts well and calibrate the upper body silhouette to make my body look pretty. However, they felt that their bust was troubled when they wore it, and they thought that their brassiere would be out of order due to their movements, so they had to wear brassiere for beauty, but they were uncomfortable. The wearing inconvenient type was analyzed as a type that the cup part was lifted, the sweat was not absorbed, and the heat was uncomfortable. It is thought that it is necessary to develop an effective brassiere for the function of raising and collecting breasts based on the body shape of women in their early 20s.
