In the present work, we prove the validity of two theorems on null-paths in a version of absolute parallelismgeometry. A version of these theorems has been originally established and proved by Kermak, McCrea and Whittaker (KMW) in the context of Riemannian geometry. The importance of such theorems lies in their applications to derive a general formula for the redshift of spectral lines coming from distant objects. The formula derived in the present work can be applied to both cosmological and astrophysical redshifts. It takes into account the shifts resulting from gravitation, different motions of the source of photons, spin of the moving particle (photons) and the direction of the line of sight. It is shown that this formula cannot be derived in the context of Riemannian geometry, but it can be reduced to a formula given by KMW under certain conditions.
Misaligned wind-wave and seismic loading render offshore wind turbines suffering from excessive bi-directional vibration. However, most of existing research in this field focused on unidirectional vibration mitigation, which is insufficient for research and real application. Based on the authors' previous work (Sun and Jahangiri 2018), the present study uses a three dimensional pendulum tuned mass damper (3d-PTMD) to mitigate the nacelle structural response in the fore-aft and side-side directions under wind, wave and near-fault ground motions. An analytical model of the offshore wind turbine coupled with the 3d-PTMD is established wherein the interaction between the blades and the tower is modelled. Aerodynamic loading is computed using the Blade Element Momentum (BEM) method where the Prandtl's tip loss factor and the Glauert correction are considered. Wave loading is computed using Morison equation in collaboration with the strip theory. Performance of the 3d-PTMD is examined on a National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) monopile 5 MW baseline wind turbine under misaligned wind-wave and near-fault ground motions. The robustness of the mitigation performance of the 3d-PTMD under system variations is studied. Dual linear TMDs are used for comparison. Research results show that the 3d-PTMD responds more rapidly and provides better mitigation of the bi-directional response caused by misaligned wind, wave and near-fault ground motions. Under system variations, the 3d-PTMD is found to be more robust than the dual linear TMDs to overcome the detuning effect. Moreover, the 3d-PTMD with a mass ratio of 2% can mitigate the short-term fatigue damage of the offshore wind turbine tower by up to 90%.
In this paper, characteristics of the motions of a human arm are investigated experimentally. When the conditions of the target point are restricted, human adjusts its trajectory and velocity pattern of the arm to fit the conditions skillfully. The purpose of this work is to examine the characteristics of the trajectory, velocity pattern, and the size of the duration in the following cases. First, we examine the case of point-to-point motion. The results are consistent with the minimum jerk theory. However, individual differences in the length of the duration can be observed in the experiment. Second, we examine the case which requires accuracy of positioning at the target point. It is found that the velocity pattern differs from the bell shaped pattern explained by the minimum jerk theory, and has its peak in the first half of the duration. When higher accuracy of the positioning is required, learning effects can be observed. Finally, to examine the case which requires constraint of the arm posture at the target point, we conduct experiments of a human trying to grasp a cup. It is considered that this motion consists of two steps : one is the positioning motion of the person in order to start the grasping motion, the other is the grasping motion of the human's hand approaching toward the cup and grasping it. In addition, two representative velocity patterns are observed : one is the similar velocity pattern explained in the above experiment, the other is the velocity pattern which has its relative maximum in the latter half of the duration.
Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) is the main payload of the KOMPSAT-1 satellite to perform the mission of cartography that builds up a digital map of Korean territory including a digital terrain elevation map. This paper discusses the issues of the digital image simulation of EOC for the generation of EOC simulated scene as taken by EOC at 685km altitude on orbit. For the purpose, simulation work has been performed with the sensor models of EOC and the satellite platform motions models through image chain analysis from the illumination source (Sun) to a simulated image output in digital number. MODTRAN fur radiance calculation, MTF models of optics, detector and motions of EOC for system point spread function (PSF), and signal chain equations for digital number output are described. Several noise models of EOC are also considered. The final output is the EOC simulated image in digital number. The simulation technique can be used in several phase of a spaceborne electro-optical system development project, feasibility study phase, design, manufacturing, test phases, ground image processing phases, and so on.
The interaction patterns between shock wave and boundary layer in a rocket nozzle are mainly classified into two categories, FSS(Free Shock Separation) and RSS(Restricted Shock Separation), both of which are associated with the thrust characteristics as well as side loads of the engine. According to the previous investigations, strong side loads of the engine are produced during the period of transition from FSS to RSS or vice versa. The present work aims at investigating the unsteady behavior of the separation shock waves in a two-dimensional supersonic nozzle, using experimental method and CFD. Schlieren optical method was employed to visualize the time-mean and time-dependent shock motions in the nozzle. The unsteady, compressible N-S equations with SST K-$\omega$ turbulence closure were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. The results obtained show the separation shock motions during the transition of the interaction pattern.

As the use of mobile devices increase, there is public interest in the utilization of the human motion generated mechanical energy. The human motion generated mechanical energies vary depending on the body region, type of motion, etc., and an appropriate device has to be designed to utilize them effectively. In this work, a device based on the principles of triboelectric generation and inertia was assessed in order to utilize the multi-axial mechanical energies generated by human motions. To improve the output performance we confirm the changes in the output that vary with the structural design, the reasons for such changes, and variations in performance based on the parts of the human body. In addition, the level of electrical energy generated based on motion type was measured; a maximum voltage of 30 V and a current of 2 ㎂ were generated. Finally, the proposed device was utilized in LEDs used for lighting, thus demonstrating that multi-axial mechanical energies can be harvested effectively. Based on the results, we expect that the developed device can be utilized as a sensor to detect mechanical energies, to sense changes in motion, or as a generator for auxiliary power supply for mobile devices.

This study is concerned with the functional utility of movement in sleeve from an ergonomic viewpoint. Experiments were carried out which include 43 upper extremity segments, 21 motions and 35 female subjects. The major conclusions of the study are. 1. The expansion rate of upper extremity was higher in length than in circumference mesurements. The amounts of expansion were, especially high (more than 60mm) for inner arm length, axillary arm circumference, and outer arm length. Therefore, a lot of ease is necessary for these parts. On the other hand, armhole circumference, forearm circumference, and wrist circumference had low rates of expansion. The sleeve cap length was also contracted in all motions. 2. The expansion rate and the range of expansion and contraction were higher in the upper arm than in the forearm. The main points of expansion were the axillary and elbow parts. The segment of maximum expansi (rate of 44.8%) was Iii of axillary parts. As the body surface expands mainly in some segments, it is desirable to allow ease to the main segments of expansion. 3. In a basic sleeve, necessary ease was lacking in the measurements for outer arm length and axillary arm circumference, while it was too large in armhole circumference, forearm circumference, wrist circumference, and sleeve cap length. Therefore, a basic sleeve is inadequate as a functional sleeve for hard work in point of functional utility of movement. Wider application of these findings would lead to an improvement in the comfort of workers.
The main focus of this paper is the analysis of the different components of the variability for strong ground motions recorded from earthquakes produced by the Vrancea subcrustal seismic source. The analysis is performed for two ground motion prediction equations: Youngs et al. (1997) and Zhao et al. (2006), recommended within the SHARE project for the Vrancea subcrustal seismic source and which are proposed in the work of Delavaud et al. (2012) and graded best in Vacareanu et al. (2013c). The first phase of the analysis procedure consists of a grading procedure. In the second phase, the single station sigma procedure is applied for both attenuation models in order to reduce some parts of ground motion models' variability produced by the ergodic assumption. The strong ground motion database which is used throughout the study consists of over 400 accelerograms recorded from 9 Vrancea intermediate-depth seismic events. The results of the single station sigma analysis show significant reduction of the standard deviations, especially in the case of the Youngs et al. (1997) attenuation model, which is also graded better than the other selected GMPE.
In order to increase the signal-to-noise ratio in multi-component seismic data, we developed new polarization filters based on the method of multicomponent complex trace analysis. Unlike the previous polarization filters, the present filters separately compute linear and elliptic components at each time sample using amplitude ratio of horizontal and vertical components of body waves and ellipticity of Rayleigh waves. The polarization filters work ideally even with low S/N data. Application of the filters to both synthetic and real seismic data shows that Rayleigh waves of elliptic motions are effectively eliminated and both P and S waves of linear motions are well separated each other.
The purpose of this paper is to design and construct the compact type joint driver and controller of the biped robot. This biped robot will be designed to be suitable for the practical usages and applications in the work environment, which is not plat floor, like a stairs by taking the stand-alone style that equipped all the parts except power sources. Generally, highly nonlinear motion dynamics of the biped robot is realized to linear approximations by installing a high-ratio speed reducer at each joint and dividing motions into a several piecewise linear motions, which is realized by the digital controller design techniques. This biped robot has symmetrical structure to get the stable walking ability and also the hierachical structure to control each joint as well. That is, all of the joint controllers are connected to the main controller in the composition of overall controllers. The driver and controller of each joint uses PI controller that compensate the velocity and position errors by the data of the encoder. And the signal characteristics of each joint controller forms a trapezoid speed profile which is predefined by the values of direction, maximum velocity and position.
