  • Reinforced concrete beams are often retrofitted with various FRP composite sheets. This paper is focused on the comparison of structural performance of various FRP sheets and proposal of the retrofitting design formula. Effects of the FRP kinds(AFRP, GFRP, CFRP) and the reinforcing steel ratio on behavior of the retrofitting beams are tested and analyzed with particular emphasis on the maximum load capacity, stiffness, and ductility. The experimental work included 4 point flexural testing of 3.2m span reinforced concrete beams with bonded external reinforcements. The results show that the difference of FRP kinds is not large and the flexural load capacity is mainly affected by stiffness of the retrofitting materials. This paper also proposes the design formula on the retrofitting reinforced concrete flexural members and checks with this experimantal work and previous research results.

  • As construction work on soft ground increases, many researchers have studied to secure the stability of trafficability with interest in construction safety accidents due to reinforcement work. Although the stability of soft ground is evaluated based on the allowable bearing capacity of theoretical equations proposed in the literature such as Yamanouchi and Meyerhof formulas, further numerical verification also requires comparison of the stress increase (Δσz) and deformation of the distributed contact pressure on the soft ground. In this study, the deformation of the soft ground is compared with the increasing the seam tensile strength of geotextile using the finite element analysis program, and the stress increase is investigated by variation of the distributed contact pressure by appling input data of case study.

  • This study aims to develop a curriculum for nurturing experts who perform agricultural safety and health management tasks. This study was conducted in three stages. First, job definitions and job models of agricultural safety and health managers were derived through job analysis using the DACUM technique. Second, job demand analysis was conducted by conducting a survey on the difficulty, importance, and frequency of each task. Third, IPA analysis was performed as the first priority tasks of job demand analysis to present the courses and subjects of the training course for safety and health managers in agricultural work. The job of the agricultural safety and health manager was defined as "to conduct guidance and advice on safety and health education, risk factors, and evaluation and management of harmful factors to protect farmers' professional health and safety." The job model consisted of 4 tasks, 31 core tasks, and 67 detailed tasks. As a result of job demand analysis, there were 39 tasks in the 1st priority, 22 in the 2nd priority, and 6 in the 3rd priority. As a result of the IPA analysis, there were 13 'capacity development focused areas', 4 'capacity development effort areas', 11 'low priority areas', and 3 'continuous maintenance areas'.

  • Concrete structure is a construction material with durability and cost-benefit, however the corrosion in embedded steel causes a critical problem in structural safety. This paper presents an evaluation of chloride resistance and pull-off performance with various corrosion level. For the work, OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) concrete and GGBFS(Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) concrete are prepared with normal steel. Artificially notch induced FRP Hybrid Bar is also prepared and embedded in OPC concrete and accelerated corrosion test is performed. Through the test, FRP Hybrid Bar with notch is evaluated to have insignificant effect on pull-off capacity when corroded steel shows only 21% level of pull-off capacity. Furthermore GGBFS concrete with normal steel shows over 70% level of pull-off capacity due to reduced corrosion currency.

  • The inelastic earthquake response of existing, reinforced concrete buildings with an open ground story, designed according to the old Greek codes, is investigated before and after their seismic strengthening with steel braces restricted to the open ground stories. The seismic performance evaluation is based on Part 3 of Eurocode 8 for assessment and retrofitting of buildings. Three and five-story, symmetric and non-symmetric buildings are subjected to a set of seven pairs of synthetic accelerograms, compatible with the design spectrum, and conclusions are drawn regarding the effectiveness of the strengthening solutions. Seismic behavior of the selected models confirms results of previous work regarding the insufficient capacity of the open ground stories for design level earthquakes. It is also shown that strengthening only the weak ground story, a choice having the substantial advantage of low cost and continued usage of the building during its seismic retrofitting, can remove the inherent weakness without shifting the problem to the stories above and thus making such buildings at least as strong as those without a weak first story. This partial strengthening is possible for symmetric as well as eccentric buildings, in which torsion plays a further detrimental role.

  • Laughter is one of the most important nonverbal sound that human generates. It is a means for expressing his emotions. The acoustic and contextual features of this specific sound are different from those of speech and many difficulties arise during their modeling process. During this work, we propose an audio laughter generation system based on unsupervised generative models: the autoencoder (AE) and its variants. This procedure is the association of three main sub-process, (1) the analysis which consist of extracting the log magnitude spectrogram from the laughter database, (2) the generative models training, (3) the synthesis stage which incorporate the involvement of an intermediate mechanism: the vocoder. To improve the synthesis quality, we suggest two hybrid models (LSTM-VAE, GRU-VAE and CNN-VAE) that combine the representation learning capacity of variational autoencoder (VAE) with the temporal modelling ability of a long short-term memory RNN (LSTM) and the CNN ability to learn invariant features. To figure out the performance of our proposed audio laughter generation process, objective evaluation (RMSE) and a perceptual audio quality test (listening test) were conducted. According to these evaluation metrics, we can show that the GRU-VAE outperforms the other VAE models.

  • Workers' safety from radiological exposure in a 1 ton/day capacity spent resin treatment facility was evaluated according to the operating times and outflow rate due to process related leakages. The conservative annual dose based on the operating times of the workers exceeded the dose limit by at least 7.38E+01 mSv for close work. The realistic dose range was derived as 1.62E+01 mSv-6.60E+01 mSv. The conservative and realistic annual doses for remote workers were 1.33E+01 mSv and 3.00E+00 mSv respectively, which were less than the dose limit. The MWR was identified as the major contributor to worker exposure within the 1 h period required for removal of radioactive materials. The dose considering both internal and external exposures without APF was derived to be 1.92E+01 mSv for conservative evaluation and 4.00E+00 mSv for realistic evaluation. Furthermore, the dose with APF was derived as 7.27E-01 mSv for conservative evaluation and 1.51E-01 mSv for realistic evaluation. Considering the APF for leakage from all parts, the dose range was derived as 1.25E+00 mSv-2.03E+00 mSv for conservative evaluation and 2.61E-01 mSv-4.23E-01 mSv for realistic evaluation. Hence, it was confirmed that radiological safety was secured in the event of a leakage accident.

  • The article is devoted to perfecting the system of management of the financial potential of transport enterprises. It is established that transport as an integral part of the state economy has to organically enter the market economy and provide sustainable transport services to national economy enterprises regardless of ownership, as well as ensure passenger transportation. It is also determined that in the conditions of market relations, transport highways must perform their functions with sufficient economic benefit to keep their material and technical resources in good order, conduct an investment policy with extensive use of scientific and technological progress, as well as a social policy guaranteeing the conditions for employees' motivated work. The study reveals an association between the financial and strategic goals of transport enterprises and the minimization of their economic risks, the prevention of bankruptcy and profit margin shortfalls. It is found that transport enterprises need to strive for the overall improvement of their financial potential through increasing the components of financial potential and assessing the impact of risk factors on them: the capacity of fixed assets, the capacity of financial resources, the capacity of services, and the capacity of credit opportunities. These are the elements of transport enterprises' financial potential that ensure its desired level. It is demonstrated that of critical importance in managing the financial potential of a transport enterprise is the role of financial resources, as a subject cannot reach the desired strategic goals without them.
