  • This paper describes the operational concept of the Aegis ship's missile defense. Recently, North Korea conducted a fourth nuclear-weapon test that involved the launch of a long-range missile and the underwater launch of an SLBM. The ground-based BMD (Ballistic Missile Defense) system is very limited for the SLBM of a miniaturized nuclear warhead; therefore, it is necessary to build a reliable sea-based missile-defense system. The ROK Navy has, however, only utilized the Aegis ship that is designed with a search-and-tracking sensor but is without a ballistic-missile interception capability. Given this information, this work focuses on the operational concept of the Aegis BMD by comparing the BMD capabilities of the ROK with those of the U.S.

  • The national long-term R&D program, updated in 1997, requires Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI) to complete by the year 2006 the basic design of Korea Advanced Liquid Metal Reactor(KALIMER), along with supporting R&D work, with the capability of resolving the issue of spent fuel storage as well as with significantly enhanced safety. KALIMER is a 150 MWe pool-type sodium cooled prototype reactor that uses metallic fuel. The conceptual design is currently under way to establish a self-consistent design meeting a set of major safety design requirements for accident prevention. Some of the current emphasis includes those for inherent and passive means of negative reactivity insertion and decay heat removal, high shutdown reliability, prevention of and protection from sodium chemical reaction, and high seismic margin, among others. All of these requirements affect the reactor design significantly and involve extensive supporting R&D programs. This paper summarizes some of the results of conceptual engineering and design analyses performed for the safety of HAMMER in the area of inherent safety, passive decay heat removal, sodium water reaction, and seismic isolation.

  • This paper deals with the human-interactive actions of a quadruped robot by using Genetic Algorithm. In case we have to work out the designed plan under the special environments, our robot will be required to have walking capability, and patterns with legs, which are designed like gaits of insect, dog and human. Our quadruped robot (called SERO) is capable of not only the basic actions operated with sensors and actuators but also the various advanced actions including walking trajectories, which are generated by Genetic Algorithm. In this paper, the body and the controller structures are proposed and kinematics analysis are performed. All of the suggested motions of SERO are generated by PC simulation and implemented in real environment successfully.

  • It is well understood that force reflecting coupled with visual display can be an important two-way communication channel in human-computer interaction. In this work, important components for a high-fidelity system bandwidth are force reflecting device and that all the computations including contact determination and response computation have to be performed in less than a millisecond. This paper describes a force-reflecting device and an embedded controller. The realized force-reflecting device is based on a novel serial type mechanical structure, and features compactness, high sustained output force capability, low friction, zero backlash, and enough workspace. The embedded controller reduces software computational load via main processor and simplifies hardware strictures by the time-division control. The device is integrated with existing dynamic simulation algorithms running separate workstation, so that objects can be manipulated in real time and the corresponding forces felt back by the operator.

  • For producing large numbers of professional nurses who could manage 21th century's human health, it is necessary to review the direction of registered nurses' national examination which evaluates the nursing education and is granted a licence. For adapting to social expectation of the nurse, we have to nurture the nurses' problem solving capability in clinical setting. Seven divisions of Korean Academy of Nursing suggested clinical competency according to their categories. This paper was presented in the work-shop for setting up direction of registered nurses' national examination. We expect that this paper would be more refine and confirm through reviewing subdivisions' learning objectives and discussing clinical minimum level of competence contents with clinical leaders.

  • Purpose: This study was done to clarify the concept analysis of positive psychological capital. Methods: Walker and Avant's concept analysis process was used in this study. CINAHL, ProQuest, Web of science, NDSL, RISS databases from 2004 to 2016 were searched using the keywords 'Positive psychological capital' and 'PsyCap'. Sixty-one relevant articles and three book were finally selected. Results: Analysis of identified literature indicated that positive psychological capital attributes were developable potential, positive cognition, expression of emotion, multiple psychological capability, and resources with positive effect. The antecedents were goal achievement, training, leader's motivation, and supportive organizational environment. The consequences were overall wellbeing which is composed of individual's physical, psychological and social wellbeing and enhancement of work outcome. Conclusion: The findings in this study provide a definition of the concept of positive psychological capital and theoretical evidence for the future research for nurses including program development.

  • There is a problem to be solved for improvement of durability and safety for concrete When the waterproofing and anticorrosive work of main concrete are design, the material a of construction need to be correctly applied to appropriate circumstance conditions. Epoxy mostly been used for concrete water tank structure. Lately, lots of subjects on adaption res in mortar for waterproofing and anticorrosive are under discussion. Then, we attempt to approach by evaluating and comparing every capabilities with waterproofing materials in this experiment. Capability evaluation items include the bond age and curing conditions, the bond strength after accelerated weathering test and fret impact resistance, a mount of water, seepage quan Through the experiment analysis, we found that waterproofingtity, drinking water chemicals resistance. and anticorrosive resin mortar used with glass fiber cloth, inorgar material is dominantly superior to other waterproofing materials. According to this paper, we suggest the resin mortar as a new surface treatment material water tank structure.

  • This article is concerned with the overview of the activated carbon fibers. Firstly, this review provides a comprehensive survey of the overall processes for the synthesis of the activated carbon fibers from the carbonaceous materials. Subsequently, the physicochemical properties such as pore structures and surface oxygen functional groups of the activated carbon fibers were discussed in detail. Finally, as electrochemical applications of the activated carbon fibers to electrode materials for electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC), the electrochemical characteristics of the activated carbon fiber electrodes and the various methods to improve the capacitance and rate capability were introduced. In particular, the effect of pore length distribution (PLD) on kinetics of double-layer charging/discharging was discussed based upon the experimental and theoretical results in our work. And then we discussed in detail the applications of the activated carbon fibers to adsorbent materials for purification of liquid and gas.

  • A kernel regression filter with adaptive bandwidth is developed and successfully applied to digital reactivity meter for neutron signal measurement in nuclear reactors. The purpose of this work is not only reduction of the measurement noise but also the edge preservation of the reactivity signal. The performance of the filtering algorithm is demonstrated comparing with well known smoothing methods of conventional low-pass and bilateral filters. The developed method gives satisfactory filtering performance and edge preservation capability.
