This paper investigates the effects of sports ground materials on the transfer characteristics of the landing impact force using a coupled foot-shoe-ground interaction model. The impact force resulting from the collision between the sports shoe and the ground is partially dissipated, but the remaining portion transfers to the human body via the lower extremity. However, since the landing impact force is strongly influenced by the sports ground material we consider four different sports grounds, asphalt, urethane, clay and wood. We use a fully coupled 3-D foot-shoe-ground interaction model and we construct the multi-layered composite ground models. Through the numerical simulation, the landing impact characteristics such as the ground reaction force (GRF), the acceleration transfer and the frequency response characteristics are investigated for four different sports grounds. It was found that the risk of injury, associated with the landing impact, was reduced as the ground material changes from asphalt to wood, from the fact that both the peak vertical acceleration and the central frequency monotonically decrease from asphalt to wood. As well, it was found that most of the impact acceleration and frequency was dissipated at the heel, then not much changed from the ankle to the knee.
Attempts were made to analyze the behavior of single and multiple-bolted connections through theoretical methods such as European yield theory, empirical approaching method, and semi-rigid theory instead of many experimental methods that have been actually inefficient and non-economical. In the case of a single-bolted connection, if accurate characteristic values of a material could be guaranteed, it would be more convenient and economical to perform the behavior analysis using a model based on the semi-rigid theory, instead of the existing complex yield model, or the empirical formula which produces errors, giving different results from the actual ones. If the variables of equation determining the load and deformation could be appropriately controlled, the analytical method in conjunction with a semi-rigid theory could be effectively applied to obtain the desirably predicted value, considering that the appropriate solution could be derived through a simpler equation using a less difficult method compared to the existing yield model. It is concluded that analytical method with semi-rigid theory can be used in the behavior analysis of bolted connection because our developed method showed excellent analysis ability of behavior until number of bolt is two. Although our analytical method has the disadvantage that the number of bolt is limited to two, it is concluded that it has the advantage than numerical method which complicated and time-consuming.
For efficient use of wood, it is important to control moisture of wood in processing wood. Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy can be used to estimate the physical and chemical properties of materials quickly and nondestructively. In this study, it was intended to measure the moisture contents on the surface of wood using NIR spectroscopy coupled with multivariate analytic statistical techniques. Because NIR spectroscopy is affected by the chemical components of the specimens and contains signal noise, a regression model for detecting moisture content of wood was established after carrying out several numerical pretreatments such as Smoothing, Derivative and Normalization in this study. It shows that the regression model using NIR absorbance in the range of 750~2,500 nm predicts the actual surface moisture content very well. Near-infrared spectroscopy technique developed in this study is expected to improve a technology to control moisture content of wood in using and drying process.
Sleepers perform bearing rails and are underneath rails. Therefore, the current and voltage of rails are related to the resistance of sleepers. In case that the resistance of sleepers are low, operation problems of relays in tr ack circuits are occur because of flowing leakage current through sleepers. So the condition that the track circuit is always occupied by a train is kept. Currently, the creosote has been used in wood sleepers due to prevention against putrefaction. After a long time, the material is changeable to the chemistry material bases on carbon dioxide or carbon. So, the insulation resistance of wood sleepers is lower than the initial insulation resistance. In case of effecting wood sleepers as conductors, amplitude of the current and voltage on rails is decreased. This phenomenon causes that a train does not receive signals. In this paper, four-network model on the track circuit including the insulation resistance of sleepers is suggested. Also, the standard value of the resistance in straight section is proposed in the wood sleeper.

To improve the reliability of seismic hazard assessment of historic earthquake, shaking table test of a 1/2 scale model of wood house with tiled roof was performed. Scaled model was constructed through rigorous verification process to have quantitative relationship between the intensity of earthquake and damage state. The completed model was mounted on a shaking table and subjected to the dynamic tests. Two kinds of tests were performed: exploratory test and fragility test. The exploratory test was done with low intensity shaking. In the fragility test, the behavior of the model was carefully monitored while increasing the shaking intensity. The construction details of the model are provided and test procedures are reported. Finally important test results are presented and their implications are discussed.

Effects of the cross-sectional dimension and moisture profile of wood specimens on the ultrasonic sound velocities of radiata pine heartwood and sapwood. Each moisture profile model specimen was made by composing five wood pieces with various moisture contents. As the cross-sectional dimensions decreased the ultrasonic velocities of both heartwood and sapwood decreased by 4~8%. In the ultrasonic signals transmitted through the specimens low frequency components more dominated than high frequency components as the dimension of cross section increased. The specimens with the same average MCs and different moisture profiles showed different ultrasonic velocities. By plotting the ultrasonic velocities against the average moisture contents of the inner three pieces of the moisture profile model specimens it was revealed that three distinct plot patterns existed.
In our previous study, we investigated the use of ensemble models based on LeNet and MiniVGGNet to classify the images of transverse and longitudinal surfaces of five Korean softwoods (cedar, cypress, Korean pine, Korean red pine, and larch). It had accomplished an average F1 score of more than 98%; the classification performance of the longitudinal surface image was still less than that of the transverse surface image. In this study, ensemble methods of two different convolutional neural network models (LeNet3 for smartphone camera images and NIRNet for NIR spectra) were applied to lumber species classification. Experimentally, the best classification performance was obtained by the averaging ensemble method of LeNet3 and NIRNet. The average F1 scores of the individual LeNet3 model and the individual NIRNet model were 91.98% and 85.94%, respectively. By the averaging ensemble method of LeNet3 and NIRNet, an average F1 score was increased to 95.31%.
This study was conducted to compare and analyze gross calorific values from measurement methods of lignocellulosic biomass and calculation data from calorific value prediction models based on the elemental content. The deviation of Liriodendron tulipifera (LT) and Populus euramericana (PE) was shown 7.7 cal/g and 7.4 cal/g respectively in palletization method, which are within repeatability limit 28.8 cal/g of ISO FDIS 18125. In the case of Thailand charcoal (TC), nontreatment method and palletization method was satisfied with repeatability limit as 22.8 cal/g and 8.8 cal/g respectively. Seowon charcoal (SC) was shown deviation of 11.4 cal/g in nontreatment method, because the density and chemical affinity of sample increases as the carbon content increases from heat treatment at high temperature in the case of TC and SC. In addition, after applying the elemental content of each of these samples to the calorific value prediction models, the study found that Model Equation (3) was relatively consistent with measured calorific values of all these lignocellulosic biomass. Thus, study about the correlation between the density and size of particle should be conducted in order to select the measurement method for a wide range of solid biofuels in the future.
