  • The seasonal pattern and the annual magnitude of the internal (or biochemical) and plant-soil cycles of phophorus in adjacent three different herb plant populations-Helianthus tuberosus L., Artemisia princeps Pampan and Phalaris anundinacea L.-in an old field of the basin in the Mt. Geumoh were investigated. A lot of the phosphorus demand for the three populations was supplied by the withdrawal from below-ground organ in early growing period, by the absorption from soil in mid-growing period and by the withdrawal from stem in later growing period. But in the A. princeps and P. arundianacea populations, a great deal of phosphorus seemed to be absorbed prior to the first withdrawal. The annual amount of the phosphorus flowing throughthe internal cycle was about 59% of the total hosphorus flow on theorgan level in the H. tuberosus population, 41% in the A. princeps population and 32% in the P. arundinacea population, indicating that the tuber plant had the most developed internal cycle system. The annual amount of phosphorus which took part in the plant-soil cycle in the stand of the three populations was in the range of 4.49-5.65 gPm-2, corresponding to only 3-8% of the extractable phosphorus contained in the soil of 0-20 cm depth. The fact that the H. tuberosus population is higher in the extent fo internal cycle but smaller in the magnitude of plant-soil cycle and lower in the turnover rate of phsophorus than the other two populations suggests that the growth of H. tuberosus population may be less dependent on soil phosphorus availability than those of the other two populations.

  • The combination of oxycodone and naloxone is useful for cancer pain management. Naloxone, as a pure opioid antagonist, cannot be used simultaneously with opioids. However, owing to its low bioavailability, it can be used in an oral composite formulation. We present the case of a 55-year-old man with gastric cancer who experienced severe opioid withdrawal syndrome (OWS) triggered by oxycodone/naloxone that was successfully managed with dexmedetomidine. He had been in a stable condition on intravenous morphine to alleviate cancer pain. Intravenous morphine was switched to oral oxycodone/naloxone for discharge from the hospital. The patient suddenly developed restlessness, heartburn, and violent behavior 30 minutes after taking oxycodone/naloxone. We attempted sedation with midazolam and propofol, but paradoxical agitation and desaturation occurred. Next, we tried dexmedetomidine and the patient showed a decreased heart rate and reduced agitation. The patient was eventually stabilized by increasing the dose of dexmedetomidine. This report informs clinicians of the possibility of OWS when switching from opioids to oxycodone/naloxone, which can be overcome with the appropriate use of sedatives and dexmedetomidine depending on the patient's condition.

  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but fatal condition, with a high mortality rate. NMS is characterized by altered mental status, fever, myoclonus, autonomic dysfunctions, and elevated creatinine phosphokinase. The clinical manifestations may be confused with alcohol-related symptoms, trauma, sepsis, postoperative agitation, or malignant hyperthermia. A 69-year-old male patient with alcohol withdrawal was admitted to the operating theatre to rule out septic shock due to mesenteric injury after multiple trauma. He was suspected NMS with abrupt increase body temperature to 41.7℃ after haloperidol administration. Active cooling and rapid fluid infusion was done during anesthesia. Delayed diagnosis and treatment of NMS lead to catastrophic result. Therefore, if the patient's past medical history is unknown or clinical symptoms develop that are suggestive of NMS, early treatment must be considered.

  • Recently, the lifetime prevalence rate of alcoholism in Korea shows to be quite higher than that in American, European and Asian countries indicating approximately 11 %. Also prevalence rate of male adult alcoholism in total inpatient of a polyclinic hospital shows to be very high indicating 16.5 % to 38.2 %, and from this result it is could be supposed that considerable physical diseases are related with alcoholic problem. According to the disorder related with alcohol is one of the most important hygienic problems in our society. In spite of the development of medicine, there is no certain medication or method in the field of the adult diseases or cancers under the actual circumstances that foods and drugs have been taking approximately for the purpose of prevention; and from this viewpoint, functional foods proved to be physically effective compared to general foods have been developing and the natural substances that could increase the effectiveness of general food have been produced. Alcohol addiction has been inducing several social problems and according to the increasing trend following the development of society it is strongly required to develop the medication. Therefore the research regarding to the treatment for the alcohol addiction has been performed widely, and especially the attempt to developof new medication using herbal medicine has been performing as in the development of the medication for other diseases. This study was designed to investigate the effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix which is the representative herbal medicine and has been used widely in the preparation of herbal medicine on alcohol intake and alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

  • Background: Inhaled nitric oxide therapy causes selective pulmonary vasodilation in congenital heart diseases with pulmonary hypertension. However discontinuation of inhaled nitric oxide therapy may be complicated by abrupt life-threatening rebound pulmonary hypertension(RPH) The purpose of this study was to prevent by comparing group I(without RPH n=13) and group II(with RPH n=6) to determine the risk factors involved inthe development of the RPH. Material and Method: Between Januarty 6, 1998 and April 14, 1999. we studied 19 consecutive children who were treated with inhaled nitric oxide for clinically significant pulmonary hypertension after an open heart surgery for congenital heart disease. the ratio of males and females was 12:7 ranging in age from 10 days to 6040 days(16 years) To identify the effects of nitric oxide between two groups we measured heart rate mean and systolic pulmonary arterial pressure mean and systolic systemic arterial pressure central venous pressure pH paO2/FiO2 and O2 saturation before and after the initiation and just before the withdrawal of the inhaled nitric oxide. result: In 6 of 19 patients(32%) withdrawal of inhaled nitric oxide caused RPH. In the two groups inhaled nitrix oxide decreased in pulmonary arterial pressure(PAP) without decreasing the systemic arterial pressure(SAP) and increased PaO2/FiO2 Compared with patients who had no RPH(group I) patients who had RPH(group II) were older in age (1204$\pm$1688 versus 546$\pm$1654 days p<0.05) received less nitric oxide therapy(34$\pm$18 versus 67$\pm$46 hours p<0.05) has shorter weaning process(5$\pm$3 versus 15一13 hours p<0.05) and received lowerconcentration of initial nitric oxide supply(11$\pm$8 versus 17$\pm$8 ppm p>0.05) and lower concentration just before the withdrawal nitric oxide(4.2$\pm$2.6 versus 5.6$\pm$2.6 ppm, p>0.05) Conclusion : We speculate that older age shorter of nitric oxide therapy shorter weaning process are the risk factors of RPH.

  • Generally, in a VOD(video on Demand) system, batching technique is oten used to improve throughput. Since subscribers to VOD servives tend to withdraw their requests as the latency becomes large, an optimal scheduling scheme should consider not only batching size but also withdrawal rae, service latency and fairness between different programs. In this paper, we propose a new scheduling scheme, which shows improvement in fairness and reduction in withdrawal rate and service latency compared with other well known schemes. When there are 2 or more streams are available in the VOD server, proposed scheme apply different program selection policies to each streams. Using this approach effectiveness of stream usage can be improved.

  • The equipment for the horizontal continuous casting was built to produce hyper-eutectic Al-Si bars with a small cross-section of 25mm in diameter. The manufacturing processes including withdrawal cycle and secondary cooling methods were modified to refine the primary and the eutectic Si. The longitudinal casting speeds varied over the ranges of 670-1100mm/min for pure Al, and 200-350mm/min for Al-17wt%Si alloy. Due to the difference of cooling rate in the mould, microstructural asymmetry between the lower and the upper part of bar was observed. Thus, manufacturing processes such as cooling and withdrawal method were optimally combinated to get the homogeneous cast structure. With the increase of casting speed, the primary Si size was refined down to $30{\mu}m$ near the surface, and $80{\mu}m$ in the center of the bar.

  • In recent years, subsidence due to excessive groundwater withdrawal is a major problem in the Kathmandu Basin. In addition, on 25 April 2015, the basin experienced large crustal displacements caused by Mw 7.8 Gorkha earthquake. In this study, we applied StaMPS- Persistent Scatterer InSAR (StaMPS PS-InSAR) technique to estimate the spatio-temporal displacements in the basin after the mainshock. 34 Sentinel-1 C-band SAR data are used for measuring subsidence velocity during 2015-2017. We found the maximum subsidence velocity of about 9.02 cm/year and mean subsidence rate of about 8.06 cm/year in the line of sight direction, respectively, in the central part of the basin.

  • Purpose : This study investigates pediatric nurses' knowledge and attitudes regarding iatrogenic narcotic analgesic withdrawal symptoms management (INAWSM). Methods : In this cross-sectional study, 253 pediatric nurses working at a tertiary hospital in Seoul participated. Instruments were the inventory consisting questionnaires on 35 items knowledge and 12 items attitude for INAWSM. Further, descriptive statistics, t-test, and analysis of variance were used to evaluate the nurses' knowledge and attitudes. Results : The correct answers rate of knowledge toward INAWSM was 44.9%. With respect to the pediatric nurses' attitudes, the participants scored an average value of $2.83{\pm}0.25$ out of 4 points. The factor related to the knowledge and attitude level was age, pediatric nursing experience, educational experience, and educational needs. Conclusions : Results revealed that pediatric nurses had inadequate knowledge and attitude on INAWSM despite a compulsory education. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an efficient INAWSM educational program.

  • The gas-phase pyrolysis reactions of 2-alkoxypyrimidines(II), 2-alkoxypyrazines(III), 4-ethoxypyrimidine(IV) and 3-ethoxypyridazine(V) are investigated theoretically using the AM1 MO method. These compounds pyrolyze in a concerted retro-ene process with a six-membered cyclic transition state (TS). The relative order of reactivity if (IV)>(II)>(III)>(V), which can be rationalized by the two effects arising from electron-withdrawing power of the aza-substituent: (ⅰ) Electron withdrawal from the C-O bond accelerates the rate and (ⅱ) electron withdrawal from the $N^1$-atom, that is participating in the six-membered TS, deactivates the reaction. We are unable to explain the experimental result of the greatest reactivity for pyridazine, (V), with our AM1 results. The reactivity increase accompanied by successive methylation of the ethoxy group, ethoxytert-butoxy, is due to a release of steric crowding in the activation process.
