  • In an wireless sensor network, energy efficient routing protocol is important for multi-hop transmission because senor nodes are powered by battery. In multi-hop transmission, specifice nodes are used and the battery power becomes low, it induce the asymetric remaining power among the nodes and makes the network lifetime reduced. In this paper, we propose a power-aware routing protocol which determines the routing path considering the remaining power of the nodes. Simulation results shows that the proposed routing scheme minimize the transmission delay and increase the network lifetime.

  • Integrated RFID-WSNs (wireless sensor networks) have recently been researched to provide object identities, sensing information, mobile service, and network functionalities. In integrated RFID-WSNs, the reader collision is one of the critical problems. Above all, due to the absence of universally applicable anti-collision protocols and the channel capture phenomenon, the medium access control protocols in integrated RFID-WSNs suffer from reader collision and starvation problems. In this paper, we propose an efficient MAC protocol, called EMP, to avoid the above problems in integrated RFID-WSNs. EMP is a CSMA-based MAC protocol which is compatible with sensor networks operating on integrated nodes which consist of an RFID reader and a senor node. EMP resolves not only the reader collision problem, but also the starvation problem using a power control mechanism. To verify the performance of EMP, we compared it with other anti-reader collision MAC protocols using simulations. As a result, the performance of EMP showed improvements in throughput, system efficiency, and energy consumption compared to the single data channel protocols (CSMA/CA, Pulse, and DiCa) in dense deployment environments.

  • Ubiquitous Sensor Network consists of a number of sensor nodes with a limited computation power and limited communication capabilities, and a sensor node is able to communicate with each other at anytime and in any place. Due to the rapid research and development in sensor networks, it will rapidly grow into environments where hmm beings can interact in an intuitive way with sensing objects which can be PDAs, sensors, or even clothes in the future. We are aiming at realizing an Unattended Secure Security System to apply it to Ubiquitous Sensor Network. In this paper, the vulnerabilities in the Unattended security system are identified, and a new protocol called OMAC-SNEP is proposed for the Unattended Secure Security System. Because the CBC-MAC in SNEP is not secure unless the message length is fixed, the CBC-MAC in SNEP was replaced with OMAC in SNEP. We have shown that the proposed protocol is secure for my bit length of messages and is almost as efficient as the CBC-MAC with only one key. OMAC-SNEP can be used not only in Unattended Security System, but also any other Sensor Networks.

  • Various applications based on the location information of things are developed as entering by the ubiquitous computing age. Wireless sensor networks are suitable to indoor location-based service because of the important features such as low-power consumption, low-cost, easy deployment, etc. To recognize the distance between nodes, the indoor location-based system transmits both ultrasound signal and radio signal periodically. However, increment of the number of deployed sensor nodes make lots of collision and interference among the signals and it can degrade the accuracy of location-based system. In this paper, we propose a beacon management mechanism to increase the probability of transmission chance to the nearest beacon from the listener. It can minimize collision and interference and reduce the error probability due to the characteristics of ultrasound.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) eHealth systems composed by Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) has emerged recently. Sensor nodes are placed around or in the human body to collect physiological data. WBAN has many different applications, for instance health monitoring. Since the limitation of the size of the battery, besides speed, reliability, and accuracy; design of WBAN protocols should consider the energy efficiency and time delay. To solve these problems, this paper adopt the end-edge-cloud orchestrated network architecture and propose a transmission based on reinforcement algorithm. The priority of sensing data is classified according to certain application. System utility function is modeled according to the channel factors, the energy utility, and successful transmission conditions. The optimization problem is mapped to Q-learning model. Following this online power control protocol, the energy level of both the senor to coordinator, and coordinator to edge server can be modified according to the current channel condition. The network performance is evaluated by simulation. The results show that the proposed power control protocol has higher system energy efficiency, delivery ratio, and throughput.
