Development of Standard Specification of Korea Radio based Train Control System(KRTCS-2) for Conventional & High Speed Railway (일반·고속철도용 무선기반 열차제어시스템(KRTCS-2) 표준사양 개발)

  • In accordance with the trend of higher speed and automation, the Train Control System is building on the technology of control methods using radio in the technology of exchanging information by wire, toward a wireless communication method that will be applied using LTE-R radio communication technology with $4^{th}$ generation LTE mobile communication a $2^{nd}$ generation GSM-R. Therefore, a standard specification suitable for the Korea Radio based Train Control System-2(below KRTCS-2) for the 350km/h class using wireless communication is created; a prototype based on the standard specification is installed on a high-speed train and is installed on a test section(Ik san-Jeong eup) on the Honam high speed line to ensure the reliability and safety of the standard specifications, which are verified through various performance tests. In the future, the standard specification that has been established as a national railway standard, and the standard specifications will be commercialized by applying the train control system to conventional and High speed railway lines.

A study on the reliability and availability improvement of wireless communication in the LTE-R (철도통합무선망(LTE-R) 환경에서 무선통신 안정성과 가용성 향상을 위한 방안 연구)

  • With the establishment of the railway integrated radio network (LTE-R) environment, radio-based train control transmission and reception and various forms of service are provided. The smooth delivery of these services requires improved performance in a highly reliable and available wireless environment. This paper measured the LTE-R radio communication environment to improve radio communication performance of railway integrated wireless network reliability and availability, analyzed the results, and established the wireless environment model. Based on the built-up model, we also proposed an improved radio-access algorithm to control trains for improved reliability, suggesting a way to improve stability for handover that occur during open-air operation, and proposed an algorithm for frequency auto-heating to improve availability. For simulation, data were collected from the Korea Rail Network Authority (Daejeon), Manjong-Gangneung KTX route, which can measure the actual data of LTE-R wireless environment, and the results of the simulation show performance improvement through algorithm.

  • According to opening the domestic existing lines and High-Speed Lines(HSL) depending on each section and phase-in, there were constructed in railway over state-of-the-art radio communication networks. Therefore, there have been 3 wireless communication networks in domestic railways in accordance with running sections as like VHF, TRS-ASTRO and TRS-TETRA. For instance, the VHF networks were constructed in exsiting lines and TRS-ASTRO were Kyungbu HSL phase-1 except Seoul-Kwangmyung section, downtown in Daejeon City and that of Daegu City. And it was constructed in DongDaegu-Busan section of Kyungbu HSL phase-2, Osong-Kwangju section of Honam HSL phase-1 and would be done in Kwangju-Mokpo of Hanam HSL phase-2 and Soosu-Pyungtaek of Metropolitan Area Line by TRS-TETRA. In this paper, we described some important problems of radio communication management and investigated current state of radio communication for railways. Moreover, we presented the necessity of integrated radio networks for domestic railways.

  • Recently, ubiquitous sensor network forms the self-organization network, and transfers the information among sensor nodes that have computing technology ability. In this paper, we design and implement U-IT system for monitoring the safety of metro railway and underground shopping malls. For this, we implement sensor nodes to support IEEE 802.15.4 wireless communication standard using low power. Also we implement USN gateway node system to transmit the collected data from sensor nodes to database server over CDMA cellular network.

  • In electic railway, 25kV is applied to AC sections of overhead contact lines and pantographs of Korea Train eXpress(KTX) make contact at speeds of 300km/h. Thus, there is a need to utilize wireless, optic, contact-less sensors to implement condition monitoring systems. This paper is based on describing and analyzing the condition monitoring system implementation technologies for efficient catenary current ratio characteristic assessment. The conclusion of this paper should be widely applied to design, diagnosis, completion of construction, current collection status, fault diagnosis, and selection of contact wires and suspension wires.

  • LRT(Light Rail Transit) is currently adopting a more upgraded signal system these days. This latest signal system is a train on-board signal system with moving block based on the realtime bi-directional wireless communications. The system applies RF-CBTC(Radio Frequency - Communication Based Train Control System) in order th execute fully automated manless operation. This paper reviews the performance requirements and safety of RF-CBTC that will be applied to the fully automated manless operation for LRT.

  • Wireless communications based train control system which is operated with a dedicated frequency band is used only on the fixed path. Because of that, the problem arises in the area of efficiency.   • As the railway transportation is getting faster and its operation speed has increased rapidly, its signal control has been complicated. For real time signal processing it is very important to prohibit any critical error from causing the system to malfunction. Today, most of the railroad's controling communications between wayside and train are made in one way. Therefore, by using a forward error correction technique, which receiver can actively correct the signal error, we can increase the performance and the stability of the railroad signaling system. In this paper, we introduce low density parity check(LDPC) that is used by next generation wireless communications and DMB technique. We verified that we can achieve low bit error rate(BER) in high signal to noise ratio(SNR) by using LDPC.

  • 최근의 무선통신 시스템은 유지, 보수 및 구축이 유선통신 시스템에 비해 용이하고 이동성을 제공할 수 있다는 장점에 의해, 열차, 차량, 미사일 등의 이동체 제어와 관련된 분야에서의 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 열차 또는 차량 제어와 같이 안전성이 중요시되는 분야에 있어서 전파에 의한 무선 링크는 가장 문제가 되는 부분으로서, 일반적으로 통신시스템은 어느 한 경로에서 고장이 발생하더라도 설계시 정해진 일정수준의 기능을 제공하는 생존성(survivability)을 지니도록 설계되어진다. 이와 관련한 연구와 개발은 대부분 공중 전화망과 고속 데이터 통신망을 대상으로 수행되었다. 본 논문에서는 유럽의 차세대 열차제어시스템에 적용하기 위해 기존의 유럽 표준 이동통신 시스템인 GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications)을 철도분야의 특수성에 맞도록 보완한 GSM-R(GSM-Railway)을 사례로 무선통신 시스템의 생존성을 검토한다.

  • Due to the advantage of communication coverage extension and removement of shadowing area, relay can be applied in various wireless communication systems. In this paper, we analyze performance of downlink with dual-hop communication systems which use a relay in railway environments. We adopted asymmetric communication system which use coherent modulation scheme in base station-relay link and differential modulation scheme in relay-destination link. The performance of communication system is analyzed using symbol error rate, and performance comparison with the systems which adopts fully coherent scheme is studied. We also investigate the performance of system depending on relay distance and energy allocation.
