  • Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) and Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) are both recognized as promising techniques, one is for solving the resource insufficient of mobile devices and the other is for powering the mobile device. Naturally, by integrating the two techniques, task will be capable of being executed by the harvested energy which makes it possible that less intrinsic energy consumption for task execution. However, this innovative integration is facing several challenges inevitably. In this paper, we aim at prolonging the battery life of mobile device for which we need to maximize the harvested energy and minimize the consumed energy simultaneously, which is formulated as residual energy maximization (REM) problem where the offloading ratio, energy harvesting time, CPU frequency and transmission power of mobile device are all considered as key factors. To this end, we jointly optimize the offloading ratio, energy harvesting time, CPU frequency and transmission power of mobile device to solve the REM problem. Furthermore, we propose an efficient convex optimization and sequential unconstrained minimization technique based combining method to solve the formulated multi-constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The result shows that our joint optimization outperforms the single optimization on REM problem. Besides, the proposed algorithm is more efficiency.

  • In this paper, a high efficiency 2.45 GHz rectenna with a microstrip patch antenna and a dual-mode band-pass filter in which the 2nd and 3rd harmonics are suppressed, is presented. From the experimental results, the 2.45GHz rectenna using 3rd harmonic suppressed dual-mode BPF shows the conversion efficiency of 41.6% with incident power density of 0.3 mW/cm2 and the received power of 1.66 mW. This result shows high conversion efficiency because the received power of this rectenna is lower than other rectennas to be compared with. This rectenna can be applied to the WPT (Wireless Power Transmission) field for energy harvesting. Also, it is expected to be used to provide the stand-by power for the low power devices for USN, and wireless power transfer in sensor application of MEMS devices.

  • As wireless power transfer (WPT) technology using strongly coupled electromagnetic resonators is a recently explored technique to realize the large power delivery and storage without any cable or wire, this technique is required for diffusion of electric vehicles (EVs) since it makes possible a convenient charging system. Typically, since the normal conducting coils are used as a transmitting coil in the CPT system, there is limited to deliver the large power promptly in the contactless EV charging system. From this reason, we proposed the combination CPT technology with HTS transmitting antenna, In this study, we examined the improvement of transmission efficiency and properties for HTS and copper antennas, respectively, at 30 cm distance. Thus, we obtained improved transfer efficiency with HTS antenna over 10% compared with copper antenna

  • In this paper, characteristics on arrangement of coils in the wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonance is presented. A helical structure is used for a self-resonant coil. To design a proper self-resonant helical coil, its inductance and capacitance are obtained. Using the finite element method, the self-resonant coil designed is simulated and characteristics of wireless power transfer with various arrangement between Tx and Rx resonant coils is analyzed. For verification, a prototype of a wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonance is fabricated and efficiency of different arrangement such as both vertical and parallel arrangements is measured. From the measurement, transmission efficiency of 50 % for parallel arrangement is obtained within twice the diameter of the coil while for the vertical arrangement it is measured within one and a half diameter of the coil. Maximum efficiency of 84.25 % is observed at the distance 40 cm from the resonant coil in the case of parallel arrangement.

  • In this paper, we proposed the planar textile resonator for constructing wearable MR-WPT system and analyzed the characteristic of textile substrates used in resonators. The planar textile resonators were designed to resonate at 1-10 MHz. The loop and coil were fabricated planar structure on textile substrate using conductive materials. Polyester fiber and cotton widely used in real life were chosen as textile resonators for wearable applications and copper tape and silver paste were used for fabricating planar loop and coil on textile substrate. For comparison analysis on transfer efficiency according to the types of textile, transmitter and receiver parts were symmetric. According to the result, for the highest transfer efficiency of wearable WPT system, the planar resonators have specifications of relative thick textile substrate with low permittivity and low surface resistance of conductive pattern. The performed experiments show that the planar textile resonator is possible to be used for resonator in wearable MR-WPT system.

  • The technology of supplying the electric power by wireless power transfer (WPT) is expected for the next generation power feeding system since it can supply the power to portable devices without any connectors through large air gap. As such a technology based on strongly coupled electromagnetic resonators is possible to deliver the large power and recharge them seamlessly; it has been considered as a noble option to wireless power charging system in the various power applications. Recently, various HTS wires have now been manufactured for demonstrations of transmission cables, motors, MAGLEV, and other electrical power components. However, since the HTS magnets have a lower index n value intrinsically, they are required to be charged from external power system through leads or internal power system. The portable area is limited as well as the cryogen system is bulkier. Thus, we proposed a novel design of wireless power charging system for superconducting HTS magnet (WPC4SM) based on resonance coupling method. As the novel system makes possible a wireless power charging using copper resonance coupled coils, it enables to portable charging conveniently in the superconducting applications. This paper presented the conceptual design and operating characteristics of WPC4SM using different shapes' copper resonance coil. The proposed system consists of four components; RF generator of 370 kHz, copper resonance coupling coils, impedance matching (IM) subsystem and HTS magnet including rectifier system.

  • In this paper, coupled-mode theory (CMT) is used to obtain a transient solution analytically for a wireless power transfer system (WPTS) when unit energy is applied to one of two resonators. The solutions are compared with those obtained using equivalent circuit-based analysis. The time-domain CMT is accurate only when resonant coils are weakly coupled and have large quality factors, and the reason for this inaccuracy is outlined. Even though the time-domain CMT solution does not describe the WPTS behavior precisely, it is accurate enough to allow for an understanding of the mechanism of energy exchange between two resonators qualitatively. Based on the time-domain CMT solution, the critical coupling coefficient is derived and a criterion is suggested for distinguishing inductive coupling and magnetic resonance coupling of the WPTS.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a magnetic resonant 6.78MHz WPT(wireless power transfer) technique which can be applied to a fixed transmitter and a receiver of varying relative distance and coil alignment, Power transmission characteristics are studied with the relative distance and misalignment ration of coil area between the transmitting and receiving coils. The coils are designed with the size of 60×80mm2 by direct feeding method, and the characteristics are derived with the maximum relative distance of 50mm and horizontal area misalignment state of 0-40mm misalignment of coil center axis in the XY plane. The power transmission characteristics are compared between the 3D EM simulation and the measured data, and the power transmission shows larger than -3dB performance with the vertical distance of up to 30mm and 50% area misalignmment ratio. This work showsthe transmission characteristics according to relative distance and misalignment state between the cols and that direct feeding has advantage for the short relative distance and small misalignment ratio.

  • As the global electric vehicle (EV) market expands, eco-friendly EV that complement performance and safety problems continue to be released and the market is growing. However, in the case of EVs, the inconvenience of charging, safety problems such as electric shock, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems caused by the interlocking of various electronic components are problems that must be solved in EVs. The use of wireless power transmission technology can solve the problem of safety by not dealing with high current and high voltage directly and solving the inconvenience of charging EVs. In this paper, in order to reduce EMI a wireless charging control module, which is a key electronic component of WPT of EV. EMI reduction was designed through simulation of problems such as resonance and impedance that may occur in the power supply and signal distortion between high-speed communication that may occur in the signal part. Therefore, through the EMI reduction design with power integrity and signal integrity, the WPT wireless charging control module for electric vehicles reduces 10 dBu V/m and 15 dBu V/m, respectively, in 800 MHz to 1 GHz bands and 1.5 GHz bnad.
