  • As the recently soaring wireless traffic, small-cell techniques have been actively studied in order to support such a wireless demand for cellular wireless networks. This paper studies interference mitigation methods for random-access small-cell networks. Although inter-cell interference between small random-access cells is one of the main factors to degrade overall performance, most of the previous works focused on interference mitigation between users in each cell. To address such limitation, dynamic opportunistic interference alignment is proposed exploiting statistical characteristics of random-access. It is demonstrated by simulation that the proposed scheme outperforms the previous approach as the number of cells or the number of users in each cell increases.

  • Ultra wideband (UWB) technologies have been developed to exploit a new spectrum resource in substances and to realize ultra-high-speed communication, high precision geo-location, and other applications. The energy of UWB signal is extremely spread from near DC (Direct Current) to a few GHz. This means that the interference between conventional narrowband systems and UWB systems is inevitable. However, the interference effects had not previously been studied from UWB wireless systems to conventional wireless systems sharing the frequency bands such as broadcasting system. This paper experimentally evaluates the interference from two kinds of UWB sources, namely an orthogonal frequency division multiplex UWB source and an impulse radio UWB source, to a broadcasting transmission system. The S/N ratio degradation of broadcasting system is presented. From these experimental results, we show that in all practical cases UWB system can be coexisted 35m distance in-band broadcasting network.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effects of interference canceller on the performance of multitone DS/CDMA system proposed by Vandendorpe[5]. There are various kinds of interference canceller suggested by different researchers including parallel and successive cancellers and we adopt a canceller used by Yoon et al.[9] which is a kind of parallel canceller. We consider three kinds of interferences, that is, multipath interference(MPI), interchannel interference(ICI) and multiple access interference(MAI). The ICI is the interference between multitones. The equations for variances. are derived for the inteferences and thermal noise used for signal to noise ratio calculation. We also consider RAKE reception over multipath channel which is modeled as lowpass equivalent linear filter and three stage interference canceller used for performance improvement. We show the performance results for number of canceller stage, diversity order and number of users and draw some conclusions that interference canceller is effective in multitone DS/CDMA system and the performance is further improved with the higher order of diversity and larger number of PN chips.

  • RPersonal area networking technology is becoming increasingly important in enabling useful wireless home applications. For example, Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11b standards are the most commonly deployed technologies for wireless home applications. However, because both standards share the same unlicensed ISM (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) radio spectrum, severe interference is inevitable and performance can be impaired significantly when heterogeneous devices using the two technologies come into close proximity. In this paper, we research Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system, which is an open specification technology for short-range wireless connectivity between electronic devices. In this paper, we analyzes the effects of co-channel interference on the performance of a Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system. Performance criteria used in the study are the signal to interference power ratio (SIR), interference index, and the bit error rate (BER) in the wireless channel. The effect of co-channel interference from various sources on the performance of a Gaussian FSK Bluetooth system is analyzed using an IGA(Impulsive Gaussian Approximation) method, and these quantities are plotted against Eb/No, $\rho$ and SIR for various channel conditions in figures.

  • Interest in wireless power transfer (WPT) has been growing recently due to the rapid increase in the use of electronic devices. Wireless charging systems are currently being applied to mobile phones and many studies are being conducted to apply wireless charging systems to various devices. The current wireless charging systems are capable of 1:1 charging. For wireless charging, when the devices with the same resonance frequency are present in the vicinity, the charging efficiency may be significantly lowered due to frequency interference or the wireless charging systems may stop operating. In this paper, variable capacitors were applied to a superconducting WPT system to solve the frequency interference among multiple devices with the same frequency. When a wireless charging system was performing 1:1 operation, the frequency of the other devices was varied using variable capacitors. As a result, it was confirmed that the highly efficient WPT is possible without frequency interference even when multiple receivers are present.

  • Coexistence analysis is extremely important in examining the possibility for spectrum sharing between orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based international mobile telecommunications (IMT)-Advanced and other wireless services. In this letter, a new closed form method is derived based on power spectral density analysis in order to analyze the coexistence of OFDM-based IMT-Advanced systems and broadcasting frequency modulation (FM) systems. The proposed method evaluates more exact interference power of IMT-Advanced systems in FM broadcasting systems than the advanced minimum coupling loss (A-MCL) method. Numerical results show that the interference power is 1.3 dB and 3 dB less than that obtained using the A-MCL method at cochannel and adjacent channel, respectively. This reduces the minimum separation distance between the two systems, which eventually saves spectrum resources.

  • Most recent research on iterative solutions for interference alignment (IA) presents solutions assuming channel reciprocity based on the suppression of interference from undesired sources by using an appropriate decoding matrix also known as a receiver combining matrix for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) interference channel networks and reciprocal networks. In this paper, we present an alternative solution for IA by designing precoding and decoding matrices based on the concept of signal leakage (the measure of signal power that leaks to unintended users) on each transmit side. We propose an iterative algorithm for an IA solution based on maximization of the signal-to-leakage-and-noise ratio (SLNR) of the transmitted signal from each transmitter. In order to make an algorithm removing the requirement of channel reciprocity, we deploy maximization of the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) in the design of the decoding matrices. We show through simulation that minimizing the leakage in each transmission can help achieve enhanced performance in terms of aggregate sum capacity in the system.

  • We evaluate the sink capacity of wireless code division multiple access (CDMA) sensor networks with layered architecture. We introduce a model of interference at a sink considering two kinds of interference: multiple access interference (MAI) and node interference (NI). We also investigate the activity of sensor nodes around the sink in relation to gathering data under a layered architecture. Based on the interference model and the activity of sensor nodes around the sink, we derive the failure probability of the transmission from a source node located one hop away from the sink using Gaussian approximation. Under the requirement of 1% failure probability of transmission, we determine the sink capacity, which is defined as the maximum number of concurrent sensor nodes located one hop away from the sink. We demonstrate that as the node activity of the MAI decreases, the variation of the sink capacity due to the node activity of the NI becomes more significant. The analysis results are verified through computer simulations.
