  • Energy consumption of sensor nodes is minimized because it has limited energy generator in wireless sensor network. Electronic shelf label system is one of application fields using wireless sensor networks. Battery size of small apparatus for displaying price is restricted. Therefore its current consumption have to be minimized. Furthermore the method for minimization of peak current would be considered because life cycle of coin battery used to display or RF is vulnerable to intensity of drain current. In this paper, we analyze current consumption pattern of low-power electronic shelf label system. Then we propose the method for minimization of current consumption by modification of software and hardware. Current consumption of the system using proposed method are approximately 15 to 20 percent lower than existing system and the life cycle of the system is approximately 10 percent higher than existing system.

  • Software update has been regarded as one of fundamental functions in wireless sensor networks. It can disseminate a delta-image between a current software image operating on a sensor node and its new image in order to reduce an update image(transmission data) size, resultantly saving energy. In addition, code-banking capability of micro-controllers can decrease the update image size. In order to maximize the efficiency of the software update, the proposed scheme exploits both the delta-image and the code-banking at the same time. Besides, it additionally delivers a recovery delta-image to properly handle abnormal conditions, such as message corruptions and unexpected power-off during the update.

  • This paper implements a weather monitoring system based on wireless sensor network. The wireless sensor network protocol proposed in this paper adopts a TDMA styled MAC. The protocol is designed to balance the energy consumption among sensor nodes. Other purposes of the protocol are to avoid the hidden terminal problem in 2-hop star topology, and to allow a CSMA styled communication in a given time slot to support emergent messages. Also, this paper develops the hardware of sensor node, gateway and electric generator based on solar and windy energy. The test results on the implemented system show that the time slot of each node is shifted in circular manner to balance the waiting time for transmission, and the reliability of wireless communication is over 99%.

  • Algorithms for geographical routing and location update attract the researchers' interests in wireless ad hoc networks. Even though many various schemes have been proposed, most of them cause scalability problem in small groups of nodes. To defeat this problem, flooding algorithm is widely utilized due to low complexity. However, there is no previous research work to evaluate flooding algorithm through implementation instead of simulation. In this paper, we present implementation of flooding algorithm on Raspberry Pi and performance evaluation results.

  • The data gathering delay and the network lifetime are important indicators to measure the service quality of wireless sensor and actuator networks (WSANs). This study proposes a dynamically cluster head (CH) selection strategy and automatic scheduling scheme of collectors for prolonging the network lifetime and shorting data gathering delay in WSAN. First the monitoring region is equally divided into several subregions and each subregion dynamically selects a sensor node as CH. These can balance the energy consumption of sensor node thereby prolonging the network lifetime. Then a task allocation method based on genetic algorithm is proposed to uniformly assign tasks to actuators. Finally the trajectory of each actuator is optimized by ant colony optimization algorithm. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method and the results show that the method performs better to extend network lifetime while also reducing data delay.

  • Tree routing is one of appropriate routing schemes in wireless sensor network because the complexity of this approach is relatively low. But, congestion at a specific node may happen because a parent node toward a sink node is usually selected in one hop way, specially where large number of node are deployed. As feasible solution for this problem, multiple paths and sinks schemes can be applied. However, the performance of these schemes are not proved and analyzed yet. In this paper, we conduct diverse simulaton scenarios performance evaluation for these cases to identify the improvement and analyze the impact of schemes. The performance is measured in the aspects of packet transmission rate, throughput, and end-to-end delay as a function of amount of network traffic.

  • In recent years, embedded applications have emerged at a fast rate and used in every field of one can think of ranging from household products such as microwaves, to automotive products such as air bags sensing and control, to industrial robots. In this paper, a wireless ordering system is developed using Bluetooth communications. The features of this system is the order is performed by the customers rather than the waiters. It can save time to wait until the attenders to take order. Also, the unintended ordering mistakes through waiters can be prevented. The developed system is connected to the kitchen and the counter for automatic checkout.
