  • Purpose: This paper analyzed the features of Winter Olympics mascots in chronological order by examining the evolution of mascots and presented the attributes of the Winter Olympics mascots from Innsbruck 1976 to Beijing 2022. Research design, data, and methodology: This paper conducted an exploratory study on the thinking to understand the characteristics of 13 Winter Olympics Mascots through literature review. Results: First, the mascot is a fictional character, usually an artificial character that represents the locality of the host city, including animals, human figures, and local inhabitants. Second, Schneemann, Innsbruck 1976 was known as the first official Winter Olympics mascot. Third, 19 mascots out of a total of 24 mascots were created using animals. Conclusions: The six attributes of the Winter Olympics mascots were identified: friendliness, symbolic meaning, originality, diversity, value, and identity of a special location. Above all, Winter Olympics has a locality that includes areas covered with ice and snow. From this point of view, the Olympics mascot highlights the image of snow and ice and the physical environment that includes it.

  • Terrorist organizations that take advantage of the occasion of international events are changing from targeting specified people to attacking general public, raising the anxiety of the audience and participating countries. Therefore, the host country intends to improve its status as the host by ensuring safety and crisis management at any cost. As a country with a wealth of experience of hosting international events, Korea takes the burden of the security at Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Consequently, to successfully host this winter Olympics, the organizing committee should bear in mind that Korea is no longer a safe country regarding terrorist attacks and take countermeasures against various crimes and terrorism that may arise during the Winter Olympic Games. This study overviews various measures as follows. First, the change of counter-terrorism strategy is necessary. Second, the safety entity and safety measures for Pyeongchang Olympic Games should be established. Third, private security companies should be actively utilized. Fourth, the safety management training for private security and safety personnel should be strengthened. Lastly, it is necessary to establish a rapid and organic preemptive safety management system to cope with safety and crisis effectively at Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and other international events that will be held in the future.

  • Enterprise networks in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics were hacked in February 2018. According to a domestic security company's analysis report, attackers destroyed approximately 300 hosts with the aim of interfering with the Olympics. Enterprise have no choice but to rely on digital vaccines since it is overwhelming to analyze all programs executed in the host used by ordinary users. However, traditional vaccines cannot protect the host against variant or new malware because they cannot detect intrusions without signatures for malwares. To overcome this limitation of signature-based detection, there has been much research conducted on the behavior analysis of malwares. However, since most of them rely on a sandbox where only analysis target program is running, we cannot detect malwares intruding the host where many normal programs are running. Therefore, this study proposes a method to detect malware variants in the host through logs rather than the sandbox. The proposed method extracts common behaviors from variants group and finds characteristic behaviors optimized for querying. Through experimentation on 1,584,363 logs, generated by executing 6,430 malware samples, we prove that there exist the common behaviors that variants share and we demonstrate that these behaviors can be used to detect variants.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the compositions and characteristics in cultural programs of the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. A research method was considered the developmental aspects of Cultural Olympics in all-time Olympic Games and the cases of Cultural Olympics in a host country through a documentary research method. The compositions and characteristics in cultural programs of the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games were diversely analyzed. The results are as follows. First, a concept of a cultural program was deepened and developed at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. In the wake of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, IOC published the Cultural Olympic Guide. Through the 2012 London Olympics, the Cultural Olympic Guide was revised. Second, the cultural programs of the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games showed the characteristics of image change & status and of the international exchange strengthening in a host country and a holding city. Third, in terms of cultural programs, the 1988 Seoul Olympics comprised the celebrations, performances & exhibitions amid the Culture and Arts Festival, and the International Academic Conference. The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games were composed of performances, exhibitions, festivals, humanities & experience, and educational events. Fourth, the 1988 Seoul Olympics included the key element of forming a program that equally has the characteristics with the harmony between tradition and modernity, with the promotion of the excellence in Korean traditional culture & the spread in a bond of sympathy, and with various cultures and arts in each region. Also, the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games pushed ahead with the strategy dubbed 'The Olympics in which there is culture day after day, in which provincial residents participate, and in which the cultural heritage is left' in order to systematically expedite the cultural Olympics.

  • Molipteryx fuliginosa (Uhler, 1860) is a plant juice sucker which feeds on new tips of Rubus oldhami Miquel and Zelkowa serrata Makino, and it has a strong preference for teses two plants in Korea. M. fuliginosa has one generation a year and hibernates as a young adult. Most of the winter survivors emerge in early May. It is the first time their host plants were found and reported. Females mainly lay their eggs one by one separately on the leaves of R. oldhami, and even on the steel wire, the lid guaze and the ground in the laboratory. Nymphs do not gather, but stay on the hatching site, Nymphs except the non-feeding first instar feed on young shoots. From the second to the fifth instar nymphs migrate to the upper part of the shoot and congregate in part on an expanded leaf. The new adults first appeared on 11 August, and remained in the host plant, and fed on until mid October. The duration of the hatching and molting, and the survivorship curve based on the laboratory rearing were determined.

  • This study was performed to understand whether host-plant feeding had an influence on subsequent prey consumption in the zoophytophagous mirid Nesidiocoris tenuis, which has the potential for biological control of greenhouse whiteflies. Potted plants of paprika and sesame and cotton balls soaked with water were provided to the test insects for 24 h, then, frozen eggs of Ephestia kuehniella were presented to adult mirids for 24 h, and the number of eggs consumed by them was counted. No significant difference in prey consumption was observed between the mirids previously provided with water ($49.2{\pm}30.58$ eggs) or paprika ($55.7{\pm}31.19$ eggs), whereas those previously fed with sesame ate significantly less prey ($24.2{\pm}34.70$ eggs) than the mirids that were provided with paprika or water.

  • 1) An experiment was made at the newly constructed glass house of Chun chan Agriculture callege to find out facts about the late-raising of Cortinellus edodes (Berk) Ido et Imai during the winter season. 2) The host timbers used in this experiment were Quercus Serrata Thumb and Quercus crispulo BI.; 5 years old each, the diameter ranging from 6cm to 17cm, dividing them into 12 diameter groups with 10 timbers in each group. The total number of timbess was 240 in two blocks. 3) As the pre-treatment of host timber, the autumn generation in 1962 was inhibited, and before being put into the glass-house, they were stimulated of generation for 3 days after 3 days, water-soaking. 4) The temperature control was made by using two coal stoves and the humidity control by spraying and two full water tanks. During cloudy weather and night, the green house was covered to preserue constant temperature of $5^{\circ}C{\sim}10^{\circ}C$. 5) The result; Quercus Serrata Thumb. with lesser diameter than 9cm showed no generation either in as big timber as one with diameter 11 cm. On the other hand, too big timbers showed low rate of generation; the reason, at a guess, is the too short period of cultivation and insufficient water soaking and inappropriate temperature. 6) The most standard size of host timber was found out be those with diameter 12cm~15cm in Quercus serrata Thumb, and those with diameter 14cm~17cm in Quercus crispula BI. Quercus crispula seemed to have slightly greater efficiency of generation than Quercus Serrata Thumb., but it could not be concluded as "decisive". Lastly, the host timber used in this experiment were old and the rate of generation was low as a whole.

  • Aphid is a typical vector that transfers various kinds of viruses to potatoes. Therefore, it is very important to control aphids moving into potato fields. We investigated the seasonal movement pattern of aphids and its virus transmission rates mainly in the three seed potato production regions at highland in Gangwon-do, Korea. In addition, we identified the aphid species with over-wintering eggs collected from barks or twigs of total 57 tree species around potato fields in winter season. The peak time of summer and winter migration of aphid was at the mid-June and the early October, respectively. A 2.8% of total aphid trapped in yellow water-pan trap was turned out PLRV-borne, and the virus transmission rate was 15.4% by Myzus persicae and 9.1% by Macrosiphum euphorbiae. PLRV-borne aphids started to flow in from the late May, and virus transmission rate of aphid trapped in mid-June was the highest with 10.4%. Totally 14 species of aphid eggs wintered in the 17 species of trees including Acer pictum subsp. mono and Acer pseudosieboldianum at the 11 sites. In particular, because it is not certain that Betula platyphylla var. japonica and Yamatocallis hirayamae do transmit potato virus, but they over-wintered in host plants distributed over a wide area, further research on transmission ability is necessary.

  • The Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games is a good example of functionalism in integration theories. President Moon Jae-in is extremely lucky to play host to the Winter Olympics. Moon should be particularly happy to have declared the 23rd Winter Games open, because a handful of North Korean athletes marched into the Pyeongchang Stadium as members of a joint team from "Corea," the result of his strenuous efforts to have the North participate in the world festival of sports on snow and ice. But the president of this divided nation hardly draws envy from other world leaders, as he is faced with the daunting task of accommodating the selfish positions of surrounding powers concerning North Korean nuclear and missile threats. North Korea, a trivial competitor in winter sports, scored big outside the games' sporting arenas by inviting President Moon to summit talks in Pyongyang. As a precondition for a 2018 summit, Pyongyang will first ask for the cessation of the annual joint Korea-US military exercises. President Moon invested a lot in the Olympic delegates from the North. Korea's leader will now have to start a truly difficult game which will require the best of best strategies as well as a great deal of wisdom and tenacity not only to deal with the weapons of mass destruction-toting North Koreans, but also with allies. On the other hand, Moon needs to make the effort to reset domestic politics with tolerance and compromise, so he can better concentrate on the conundrum of North Korean nuclear and missile threats.
