  • Except a desktop computer and workstation, an embedded system is a system containing microprocessors. While a desktop computer and a workstation are designed for a general purpose, an embedded system is designed for a dedicated purpose. Thus, an embedded system must meet some constraints such as low power consumption, low cost, small size, real-time, or user-defined ones. A simple and low cost embedded system may be able to be designed without using embedded operating systems (OS). However, considered design time and effort, some embedded system had better be designed with using embedded OS. Under given constraints and purpose of some embedded systems, one embedded OS can save more time, cost, and effort in designing those embedded systems than others. This paper compares four embedded OSs, Windows CE, Embedded Linux, pSOS, and uC/OS. It analyzes several issues of embedded OS such as process scheduling, inter-process communication (IPC), memory management, and network support. Also, it describes the product of each embedded OS.

  • In this paper, we developed a mobile RPG System based on real time. This system includes game engine based on real time, system library, item trade server based on network, and client tools. Also, to make inroads into USA market, we are using smart phone platform based on Microsoft Windows CE.

  • By using DirectX technology, an improved Visual Monitoring System implemented in this paper. The proposed Visual Monitoring System is developed based on the S3C2440 processor. The Windows CE 5.0 is adopted as an operating system, and Visual Monitoring System transfer image 15 frame per second using UDP/IP and by using AdaBoost Algorithm, detect face region and save face image.

  • Windows CE .NET 내장형 시스템 환경에서 응용 프로그램을 작성하거나 실행하고자 할 때 가장 문제가 되는 것은 메모리 관리이다. Windows CE .NET 시스템은 메모리가 작기 때문에 때로는 전체 성능을 위해 메모리가 절약되는 방식으로 관리되어야 한다. 본 논문은 이와 같이 응용 프로그램이 갖는 가상 메모리의 사용 한계를 운명체제의 커널 수준에서 극복하기 위한 것이다. 현재의 Windows CE .NET 커널이 갖는 가상 메모리 관리의 단점을 극복하고 보다 많은 가상 메모리가 사용될 수 있도록 페이지 할당 및 관리를 담당하는 커널의 메모리 관리 루틴에 있어 새로운 알고리즘을 적용하여 효율을 높였으며 응용 프로그램 작성을 통한 실험을 통하여 가상 메모리의 할당 횟수를 늘일 수 있었다. 그리고 전체적인 메모리 관리 시스템의 성능 향상과 시스템의 안정성을 높일 수 있었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 Windows CE 기반의 무선 인터넷 서비스를 이용한 감시 시스템을 구현하였다. 원격지 카메라를 이용하여 압축한 데이터를 802.11b (Wi-Fi) 무선 랜망을 사용하여 전송하였다. 그리고, 고속 데이터 버스를 이용하여 전송된 영상 데이터를 웨이블릿 디코더를 이용하여 압축을 풀고 화면에 디스플레이 하였다. Geode GXI프로세서 기반의 Windows CE 서버 시스템을 구현하였고, FPGA를 이용하여 레이블릿 디코더를 제어하여 영상 데이터를 실시간 디스플레이가 가능하도록 하였다. 그리고, Windows CE 기반의 디바이스 드라이버 및 응용 소프트웨어를 작성하였다.

  • This paper present the Traffic information system that based on embedded WinCE board which has GPSand HSDPA. This system is able to overcome the limit of area using the Internet service other system can't provide. When the embedded board receives the data which has geometric and vehicle speed information, it transmits the data to server via HSDPN/the Internet. The server receives and processes the data for the path services. By an algorithm the data that road information is applied is provided to user. The users will be able to arrive there destination faster.

  • 본 논문에서는 데스크탑 환경에서의 공동작업 시스템을 Windows CE환경에 적합하게 고안한 MoCoS 시스템에 대해 설명한다. Windows CE를 기반으로 하는 이동단말기의 경우, 사용할 수 있는 리소스가 데스크탑에 비해 상당히 제한적인 점등의 특성을 가지고 있다. MoCoS 시스템은 세션관리와 공동작업 어플리케이션을 클라이언트-서버구조로 분리하여 처리함으로써 이러한 제 한 사항을 해결하였다. 또한 클라이언트 모듈은 Java언어로 작성함으로써 향후 다양한 플랫폼 및 05를 사용하는 단말기로의 확장도 용이하도록 하였다.

  • Recently, Power and thermal management are becoming major concerns in computer system design. The energy efficiency is an important attribute of the mobile and embedded systems. Today's powerful mobile processors needs more energy and longer battery life. Many research has been focused to reduce energy consumption for the mobile processors.In this paper, performance monitoring system for the Power-management techniques is implemented for Intel's XScale microarchitecture-based Marvell PXA320 processor on Windows CE platform. It also provides software interface for changing DVFS configuration. Performance and power consumption are measured for benchmark programs through performance counter value and voltage/current measurements on LabVIEW platform. By using the developed monitoring system, it is possible for dynamic power management to track processor's workload and to determine the actual power consumption.

  • In this paper device driver for camera capture in hand held mobile system is implemented based on microsoft windows CE operating system. We also study the storage device driver based on the FAT fie system by using NAND flash memory as a storage device. We use the MBA2440 PDA board for implementing the hardware for image capture by using CMOS camera module producted by PixelPlus company. This camera module has VGA $640{\times}480$ pixel resolution. We also make application program which can be cooperated with the device driver for testing its performance, for example image capture speed and quality of captured image. We check that the application can be cooperated well not only with the device driver for camera capture but also with the device driver for FAT file system designed especially for the NAND flash memory.
