This study purposed to predict wind energy for small size wind power generators at 50m above the ground in each area using mean wind speed data for 10 minutes collected from 2001 to 2011 by meteorological data in large cities having over 60% of 15 story (50m) or higher apartments including Seoul, Daejeon, Gwangju and Daegu representing the inland region, and Busan, Incheon and Ulsan representing the coastal region. In the results of analysis, we confirmed close agree ment between observatory weather data and probability density distribution obtained using Weibull's parameters, and this suggests that Weibull's parameter is applicable to the estimation of wind energy. Hourly output energy using the mean wind speed for 10 minutes and output energy obtained from Weibull's parameter showed an error less than 5%, and thus it was found that wind energy can be evaluated using Weibull's modulus.
An investigation on reliability of reanalysis wind data was conducted using the met mast wind data at four coastal regions, Jeju Island. Shinchang, Handong, Udo and Gangjeong sites were chosen for the met mast sites, and ERA-Interim and MERRA reanalysis data at two points on the sea around Jeju Island were analyzed for creating Wind Statistics of WindPRO software. Reliability of reanalysis wind data was assessed by comparing the statistics from the met mast wind data with those from Wind Statistics of WindPRO software. The relative error was calculated for annual average wind speed, wind power density and annual energy production. In addition, Weibull wind speed distribution and monthly energy production were analyzed in detail. As a result, ERA-Interim reanalysis data was more suitable for wind resource assessment than MERRA reanalysis data.

The conning display which is located in the ship bridge shows the various important information such as ship position, ship speed, track data, rate of turn, thruster rpm so on, and is one of the IBSs(Integrated Bridge Systems). In this study, the survey was conducted for ten officers to find the importance and using frequency of the information which were displayed in the conning display. The results showed that the information of drift speed, ship speed, wind direction and wind force, rate of turn, sea water depth, ship position, heading, thrust rpm, alarm, rudder command and angle got high scores and it meant that these information were very important and high frequency of use during the navigation. The optimized contents arrangement in conning display was suggested based on importance and using frequency of information. The experiment using eye-tracking system was conducted to compare the performance time and error rate of nine different scenarios for suggested arrangement display and three other existing displays. The results showed that the suggested arrangement was the best in performance time and error rate. The scenario concerning the direction and speed of wind showed faster performance time and lower error rate than other scenarios. The movement of subject's eye tended to search from the center and to avoid the comer, called 'the comer effect.' It is expected that the results of this study could help for the bridge staff to grasp the sailing information easily and to cope with the given situations promptly.
The necessity of accurate high-resolution meteorological forecasts becomes increasing in socio-economical applications and disaster risk management. The Korea Meteorological Administration Post-Processing (KMAPP) system has been operated to provide high-resolution meteorological forecasts of 100 m over the South Korea region. This study evaluates and improves the KMAPP performance in simulating wind speeds over complex terrain areas using the ICE-POP 2018 field campaign measurements. The mountainous measurements give a unique opportunity to evaluate the operational wind speed forecasts over the complex terrain area. The one-month wintertime forecasts revealed that the operational Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System (LDAPS) has systematic errors over the complex mountainous area, especially in deep valley areas, due to the orographic smoothing effect. The KMAPP reproduced the orographic height variation over the complex terrain area but failed to reduce the wind speed forecast errors of the LDAPS model. It even showed unreasonable values (~0.1 m s-1) for deep valley sites due to topographic overcorrection. The model's static parameters have been revised and applied to the KMAPP-Wind system, developed newly in this study, to represent the local topographic characteristics better over the region. Besides, sensitivity tests were conducted to investigate the effects of the model's physical correction methods. The KMAPP-Wind system showed better performance in predicting near-surface wind speed during the ICE-POP period than the original KMAPP version, reducing the forecast error by 21.2%. It suggests that a realistic representation of the topographic parameters is a prerequisite for the physical downscaling of near-ground wind speed over complex terrain areas.
A study on the available power of a wind turbine to be used for wind farm control was performed in this study, To accurately estimate the available power it is important to obtain a suitable wind which represents the three dimensional wind that the wind turbine rotor faces and also used to calculate the power. For this, two different models, the equivalent wind and the wind speed estimator were constructed and used for dynamic simulation using matlab simulink. From the comparison of the simulation result with that from a commercial code based on multi-body dynamics, it was found that using the hub height wind to estimate available power from a turbine results in high frequency components in the power prediction which is, in reality, filtered out by the rotor inertia. It was also found that the wind speed estimator yielded less error than the equivalent wind when compared with the result from the commercial code.
The objective of the investigation is the analysis of wind-tunnel experimental errors, associated with the measurement of aeroelastic coefficients of bridge decks (Scanlan flutter derivatives). A two-degree-of-freedom experimental apparatus is used for the measurement of flutter derivatives. A section model of a closed-box bridge deck is considered in this investigation. Identification is based on free-vibration aeroelastic tests and the Iterative Least Squares method. Experimental error investigation is carried out by repeating the measurements and acquisitions thirty times for each wind tunnel speed and configuration of the model. This operational procedure is proposed for analyzing the experimental variability of flutter derivatives. Several statistical quantities are examined; these quantities include the standard deviation and the empirical probability density function of the flutter derivatives at each wind speed. Moreover, the critical flutter speed of the setup is evaluated according to standard flutter theory by accounting for experimental variability. Since the probability distribution of flutter derivatives and critical flutter speed does not seem to obey a standard theoretical model, polynomial chaos expansion is proposed and used to represent the experimental variability.
Wind speed is the most important parameter in the design and study of wind energy conversion systems. The weibull distribution is commonly used for wind energy analysis as it can represent the wind variations with an acceptable level of accuracy. In this study, the wind data for 11 cities in Iran have been analysed over a period of one year. The Goodness of fit test is used for testing data fit to weibull distribution. The results show that this data fit to weibull function very well. The scale and shape factors are two parameters of the weibull distribution that depend on the area under study. The kinds of numerical methods commonly used for estimating weibull parameters are reviewed. Their performance for the cities under study was compared according to root mean square and wind energy errors. The result of the study reveals the empirical, modified maximum likelihood estimate of wind speed with minimum error. Also, that the moment and modified maximum likelihood are the best methods for estimating the energy production of wind turbines.
The effect of blockage ratio on wind tunnel testing of small vertical-axis wind turbine has been investigated in this study. Height and rotor diameter of the three blades Darrieus vertical axis wind turbine used in present test were 0.4m and 0.35m respectively. We measured the wind speeds and power coefficient at three different wind tunnels where blockage ratio were 3.5%, 13.4% and 24.7% respectively. The test results show that the measured powers have been strongly influenced by blockage ratio, generally increased as the blockage ratio increases. The maximum power at higher blockage ratio has been obtained at relatively high tip speed ratio compared with that at low blockage ratio. The measured power coefficients under high blockage ratio can be improved from proper correction using the simple correction equation based on blockage factor. In present study, the correction error for power coefficient can be less than 5%, however correction effectiveness reveals relatively poor at high blockage ratio and low wind speed.

In this paper, we propose a wind forecasting method that reflects wind characteristics to improve the accuracy of wind power prediction. The proposed method consists of extracting wind characteristics and predicting power generation. The part that extracts the characteristics of the wind uses correlation analysis of power generation amount, wind direction and wind speed. Based on the correlation between the wind direction and the wind speed, the feature vector is extracted by clustering using the K-means method. In the prediction part, machine learning is performed using the SVR that generalizes the SVM so that an arbitrary real value can be predicted. Machine learning was compared with the proposed method which reflects the characteristics of wind and the conventional method which does not reflect wind characteristics. To verify the accuracy and feasibility of the proposed method, we used the data collected from three different locations of Jeju Island wind farm. Experimental results show that the error of the proposed method is better than that of general wind power generation.

In popular tourist destinations such as Jeju and Gangwon, electric rental cars are increasingly adopted. However, sudden battery drain due to weather conditions can pose safety issues. To address this, we developed a battery consumption analysis model that considers resistive energy factors such as acceleration, rolling resistance, and aerodynamic drag. Focusing on the effects of ambient temperature and wind speed, the model's performance was evaluated during an empirical validation period from November to December 2023. Comparing predicted and actual state of charge (SoC) across different routes identified ambient temperature, wind speed, and driving time as major sources of error. The mean absolute error (MAE) increased with lower temperatures due to reduced battery efficiency. Higher wind speeds on routes 1 and 6 resulted in larger errors, indicating the model's limitation in considering only tailwinds for aerodynamic drag calculations. Additionally, longer driving times led to higher actual SoC than predicted, suggesting the need to account for varying driver habits influenced by road conditions. Our model, providing more accurate SoC predictions to prevent battery depletion incidents, shows high potential for application in navigation apps for electric vehicle users in tourist areas. Future research should endeavor to the model by including wind direction, HVAC system usage, and braking frequency to improve prediction accuracy further.
