In this study, fluid-induced vibration (FIV) analyses have been conducted for tall building structure. In order to investigate the aeroelastic responses of tall building due to wind load, advanced computational analysis system based n computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and computational structural dynamics (CSD) has been developed. Fluid domains are modeled using the computational grid system with local grid deforming technique. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of tall structure for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Detailed aeroelastic responses and results are presented to show the physical phenomenon of the tall building.
The new and renewable energy today has a great interest in all countries around the world. In special it has need more limit of the fossil fuel that needs of low carbon emission among the social necessary conditions. Recently, the high-rise building demand the structural safety, the economic feasibility and the functional design. The high-rise building spends enormous energy and it satisfied the design in solving energy requirements. The requirements of energy for the building depends on the partly form wind energy due to the cladding of the building that came from the surroundings of the high-rise building. In this study of the wind energy, the cladding of the building was assessed a tentative study. The wind energy obtains from several small wind powers that came from the building or the surrounding of the building. In making a cladding the wind energy forms with wind pressure by means of energy transformation methods. The assessment for the building cladding was surrounded of wind speed and wind pressure that was carried out as a result of numerical simulation of wind environment and wind pressure which is coefficient around the high-rise building with the computational fluid dynamics. In case of the obtained wind energy from the pressure of the building cladding was estimated by the simulation of CFD of the building. The wind energy at this case was calculated by energy transform methods: the wind pressure coefficients were obtained from the simulated model for wind environment using CFD as follow. The concept for the factor of $E_f$ was suggested in this study. $$C_p=\frac{P_{surface}}{0.5{\rho}V^{2ref}}$$$$E_c=C_p{\cdot}E_f$$ Where $C_p$ is wind pressure coefficient from CFD, $E_f$ means energy transformation parameter from the principle of the conservation of energy and $E_c$ means energy from the building cladding. The other wind energy that is $E_p$ was assessed by wind power on the building or building surroundings. In this case the small wind power system was carried out for wind energy on the place with the building and it was simulated by computational fluid dynamics. Therefore the total wind energy in the building was calculated as the follows. $$E=E_c+E_p$$ The energy transformation, which is $E_f$ will need more research and estimation for various wind situation of the building. It is necessary for the assessment to make a comparative study about the wind tunnel test or full scale test.
The present paper describes the scale effect correction methods for scaled NREL Phase VI wind turbines by using CFD[computational fluid dynamics). For the corrections of wind turbine scale effect, various researches on the helicopter rotor scale effect were investigated and the feasibility study of the methods was performed to correct wind turbine scale effect. The present paper also introduces scale effect correction methods based on two dimensional lift slope. In order to test the present method, performance analyses of NREL Phase VI wind turbines under various scale conditions were carried out and new correction method was applied. Granting that the new correction method is valid only above Reynolds No. 100,000, it showed reasonable agreement between model and full scale wind turbines in the linear torque region.
In this study, computer applied engineering (CAE) techniques are fully used to conduct structural and dynamic analyses of a huge composite rotor blade. Computational fluid dynamics is used to predict aerodynamic load of the rotating wind-turbine blade model. Static and dynamic structural analyses are conducted based on finite element method for composite laminates and multi-body dynamic simulation tools. Various numerical results for aerodynamic load, static stress, buckling and dynamic analyses are presented and characteristics of structural behaviors are investigated herein.
In this study, aeroelastic performance analyses have been conducted for a 10MW class wind turbine blade model Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational structural dynamics (CSD) has been developed in order to investigate detailed dynamic responsed of wind turbine blade Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with k-${\omega}$ SST turbulence model are solved for unsteady flow problems of the rotating turbine blade model. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of the 3D turbine blade for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems.
The paper describes a study about effects of upstream hills on design wind loads using two mathematical approaches: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Artificial Neural Network (NN for short). For this purpose CFD and NN tools have been developed using an object-oriented approach and C++ programming language. The CFD tool consists of solving the Reynolds time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model using body-fitted nearly-orthogonal coordinate system. Subsequently, design wind load parameters such as speed-up ratio values have been generated for a wide spectrum of two-dimensional hill geometries that includes isolated and multiple steep and shallow hills. Ground roughness effect has also been considered. Such CFD solutions, however, normally require among other things ample computational time, background knowledge and high-capacity hardware. To assist the enduser, an easier, faster and more inexpensive NN model trained with the CFD-generated data is proposed in this paper. Prior to using the CFD data for training purposes, extensive validation work has been carried out by comparing with boundary layer wind tunnel (BLWT) data. The CFD trained NN (CFD-NN) has produced speed-up ratio values for cases such as multiple hills that are not covered by wind design standards such as the Commentaries of the National Building Code of Canada (1995). The CFD-NN results compare well with BLWT data available in literature and the proposed approach requires fewer resources compared to running BLWT experiments.

A numerical technique for fluid-structure interaction, which is based on the finite element method (FEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), was developed for application to an industrial chimney equipped with a pendulum tuned mass damper (TMD). In order to solve the structural problem, a one-dimensional beam model (Navier-Bernoulli) was considered and, for the dynamical problem, the standard second-order Newmark method was used. Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible flow are solved in several horizontal planes to determine the pressure in the boundary of the corresponding cross-section of the chimney. Forces per unit length were obtained by integrating the pressure and are introduced in the structure using standard FEM interpolation techniques. For the fluid problem, a fractional step scheme based on a second order pressure splitting has been used. In each fluid plane, the displacements have been taken into account considering an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian approach. The stabilization of convection and diffusion terms is achieved by means of quasi-static orthogonal subscales. For each period of time, the fluid problem was solved and the geometry of the mesh of each fluid plane is updated according to the structure displacements. Using this technique, along-wind and across-wind effects have been properly explained. The method was applied to an industrial chimney in three scenarios (with or without TMD and for different damping values) and for two wind speeds, showing different responses.
In this study, the design and verification of 6kW class lift-type vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) has been conducted using advanced CAE technique based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element method (FEM), and computational structural dynamics (CSD). Designed aerodynamic performance of the VAWT model is tested using unsteady CFD method. Designed structural safety is also tested through the evaluation of maximum induced stress level and resonance characteristics using FEM and CSD methods. It is importantly shown that the effect of master eccentricity due to rotational inertia needs to be carefully considered to additionally investigate dynamic stress and deformation level of the designed VAWT system.
Reported experimental and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) studies have demonstrated significant power augmentation of diffuser shrouded horizontal axis micro wind turbine compared to bare turbine. These studies also found the degree of augmentation is strongly dependent on the shape and geometry of the diffuser such as length and expansion angle. However study flow field over the rotor blades in shrouded turbine has not received much attention. In this paper, CFD simulations of an experimental diffuser shrouded micro wind turbine have been carried out with the aim to understand the mechanisms underpinning the power augmentation phenomenon. The simulations provide insight of the flow field over the blades of bare wind turbine and of shrouded one elucidating the augmentation mechanisms. From the analysis, sub-atmospheric back pressure leading to velocity augmentation at the inlet of diffuser and lowering the static pressure on blade suction sides have been identified as th dominant mechanisms driving the power augmentation. And effective augmentation was achieved for ${\lambda}$ above certain value. For the case turbine it is ${\lambda}$ greater than ${\approx}2$.
Recently, various building integrated wind power (BIWP) approaches have been used to produce energy by installing wind power generators in high-rise buildings constructed in urban areas. BIWP has advantages in that it does not require support to position the turbine up to the installation height, and the energy produced by the wind turbine can be applied directly to the building. The accurate evaluation of wind speed is important in urban wind power generation. In this study, a wind tunnel test and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis were conducted to evaluate the wind speed for installing wind turbines between buildings. The analysis results showed that the longer the length of the buildings, which had the same height, the larger the wind speed between the two buildings. Furthermore, the narrower the building's width, the higher the wind velocity; these outcomes are due to the increase in the Venturi effect. In addition, the correlation coefficient between the results of the wind tunnel test and the CFD analysis was higher than 0.8, which is a very high value.
