This study demonstrates the advantages of a shear-free structure designed to modify vertical profiles of wind speed in the atmospheric surface layer. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) software, FLUENT is used to interpret the velocity field modification around the structure and wind turbine. The shapes of shear-free structure, installed at upstream toward prevailing wind direction, would be fences, buildings and trees, etc. According to the simulation results, it is obvious that wind shear between heights of wind turbine's blades is decreased together with a speed-up advantage. This would lead decrease of periodic wind loading caused by wind shear and power-out increase by flow uniformity and wind speed-up.
A numerical wind tunnel simulation is performed in order to predict wind loads acting on a building. The aim of the present study is to suggest a guideline for the numerical wind tunnel analysis, which could provide more detail wind load distributions compared to the wind code and expensive wind tunnel experiments. To validate the present numerical simulation, wind-induced loads on a 6 m cube model is predicted. Atmospheric boundary layer is used as a inlet boundary condition. Various effect of numerical methods are investigated such as size of computational domain, grid density, turbulence model and discretization scheme. The appropriate procedure for the numerical wind tunnel analysis is suggested through the present study.
A method for analyzing the coupled wind-vehicle-bridge system is proposed that also considers the shielding effect of the bridge tower with triangular wind barriers. The static wind load and the buffeting wind load for both the bridge and the vehicle are included. The shielding effects of the bridge tower and the triangular wind barriers are incorporated by taking the surface integral of the wind load. The inter-history iteration is adopted to solve the vehicle-bridge dynamic equations with time-varying external loads. The results show that after installing the triangular wind barriers in the area of the bridge tower, the bridge response and the vehicle safety factors change slightly. The peak value of the train car body acceleration is significantly reduced when the wind barrier size is increased.

A comprehensive knowledge of the wind flow in hilly terrains is of great interest in many engineering applications, be it wind energy distribution for suitable site selection for wind farms, pollution dispersion, forest fire propagation or agrometerological studies. Several researchers have shown that wind flow over a hilly terrain may be significantly different when compared with the wind flow over a flat terrain. Complex hilly terrains may alter the wind speed to a great extent. Therefore, this effect of terrain must be properly assessed by designers and planners to arrive at a proper wind flow distribution. This paper reviews the work done in this area over the past three decades. Wind flow over two-dimensional hills and two-dimensional escarpments investigated in wind tunnels by various researchers is presented in this paper.

To cope with the rising cost of the fossil fuel and the need of renewable energy, many wind farms are being constructed along the coasts of Korean peninsula. However, construction of these wind farms may cause negative influences by the shielding effect and the Doppler frequency from the wind turbine on the military radars operated in the nearby region. Therefore, the analysis of electromagnetic phenomenon with the real wind turbine is required. This paper compare the measured electromagnetic shielding effect and Doppler effect with theoretical shielding effect according to obstacle in literature and the extracted Doppler frequency through signal modeling.
The aim of this study was to explore the influence of structure coupling effect on structural damping of blade based on the blade vibration characteristic. For this purpose, the scaled blade model of NREL 5 MW offshore wind turbine was processed and employed in the wind tunnel test to validate the reliability of theoretical and numerical models. The attenuation curves of maximum displacement and the varying curves of equivalent damping coefficient of the blade under the rated condition were respectively compared and analyzed by constructing single blade model and whole machine model. The attenuation law of blade dynamic response was obtained and the structure coupling effect was proved to exert a significant influence on the equivalent damping coefficient. The results indicate that the attenuation trend of the maximum displacement response curve of the single blade varies more obviously with the increase of elastic modulus as compared to that under the structure coupling effect. In contrast to the single blade model, the varying curve of equivalent damping coefficient with the period is relatively steep for the whole machine model. The findings are of great significance to guide the structure design and material selection for wind turbine blades.

Articulation type container cranes are the boom forms an inverted L shape when raise. The inner boom section is nearly vertical when raise and the outer boom section is nearly horizontal. Articulation type container cranes were developed as a lower height crane to meet aircraft clearance requirements. Because the height of an Articulation type container crane is about 70m, the crane is subjected to the effect of Wind load. Therefore, the problem on the effect of Wind load is receiving carefully study. The researches for the effect of wind load on the structural stability of a conventional container crane are conducted. In this study, we carried out the investigation for an articulation type container crane. When a wind load is applied to a container crane, we analyzed the reaction force distribution at each supporting point of a crane with respect to a wind load direction and the effect of the change of the machinery house location on the structural stability rf a crane by carrying out Finite Element Analysis.

This paper deals with effect of wind forces and moment acting on the training ship SAE NUR/. The results of drift angle and counter rudder angle due to wind effect are calculated by using the static equilibrium method especially with nonlinear mathematical expression, and then the critical wind velocity is found out. The given results am be applied directly to T/S SAE NURI in handling under the wind condition and used for merchant ships as a referential tool.
This paper introduces a radio-wave interference assessment of wind turbines that were planned to be installed at Homi-Cape in Pohang region where wind resource has been evaluated worthwhile developing a wind farm. In that area, AM radio station with two antennas and a harbor radar facility are located so that radio-wave coupling is inevitable if the wind farm is designed without considering radio-wave environmental impact. A low-frequency analysis using MoM (Method of Moment) is used to examine interference effect caused by wind turbines and an optimal layout minimizes coupling effect is presented.

In this work a guidance and control system for an a powered ram air parafoil under wind disturbance is considered. After analyzing a 6 Dof and 9 Dof nonlinear dynamic models of the parafoil, wind effect is added to them. In order to actively respond to the wind acting on the transverse direction of the vehicle a new guidance algorithm is proposed. After a Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation (HILS) study, flight tests are performed to demonstrate its potential under wind disturbances.
