Characteristics of wind resources of offshore and coastal regions were compared using wind data obtained from HeMOSU-1 (Herald of Meteorological and Oceanographic Special Unit-1) meteorological mast located at Southwestern Sea, and ground-based LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) at Gochang observation site near it. The analysis includes comparison of basic wind statistics such as mean wind speed, wind direction, power law exponent and their temporal variability as well as site assessment items for the wind power plant such as turbulence intensity and wind power density at the two observation sites. It was found that the wind at HeMOSU-1 site has lower diurnal and seasonal variability than that at Gochang site, which lead to smaller turbulence intensity. Overall, the results of the comparative analysis show that the wind resource at HeMOSU-1 site located offshore has more favorable condition for wind power generation than the wind resource at Gochang which shows nature of coastal area.
To investigate the effects of "sudden change" of wind fluctuations on vehicle running performance, which is caused by the artificial discrete simulation of wind field, a three-dimensional vehicle model is set up with multi-body dynamics theory and the vehicle dynamic responses in crosswind conditions are obtained in time domain. Based on Hilbert Huang Transform, the effects of simulation separations on time-frequency characteristics of wind field are discussed. In addition, the probability density distribution of "sudden change" of wind fluctuations is displayed, addressing the effects of simulation separation, mean wind speed and vehicle speed on the "sudden change" of wind fluctuations. The "sudden change" of vehicle dynamic responses, which is due to the discontinuity of wind fluctuations on moving vehicle, is also analyzed. With Principal Component Analysis, the comprehensive evaluation of vehicle running performance in crosswind conditions at different simulation separations of wind field is investigated. The results demonstrate that the artificial discrete simulation of wind field often causes "sudden change" in the wind fluctuations and the corresponding vehicle dynamic responses are noticeably affected. It provides a theoretical foundation for the choice of a suitable simulation separation of wind field in engineering application.
To investigate the characteristics of the combined wind field produced by the natural wind field and the train-induced wind field on the bridge, the aerodynamic models of train and bridge are established and the overset mesh technology is applied to simulate the movement of high-speed train. Based on ten study cases with various crosswind velocities of 0~20 m/s and train speeds of 200~350 km/h, the distributions of combined wind velocities at monitoring points around the train and the pressure on the car-body surface are analyzed. Meanwhile, the difference between the train-induced wind fields calculated by static train model and moving train model is compared. The results show that under non-crosswind condition, the train-induced wind velocity increases with the train speed while decreases with the distance to the train. Under the crosswind, the combined wind velocity is mainly controlled by the crosswind, and slightly increases with the train speed. In the combined wind field, the peak pressure zone on the headstock surface moves from the nose area to the windward side with the increase of wind velocity. The moving train model ismore applicable in analyzing the train induced wind field.
Necessity has compelled man to improve upon the art of tapping wind energy for power generation; an apt reliever of strain exerted on the non-renewable fossil fuel. The power generation in a Wind Farm (WF) depends on site and wind velocity which varies with time and season which in turn determine wind power modeling. It implies, the development of an accurate wind speed model to predict wind power fluctuations at a particular site is significant. In this paper, Box-Jenkins ARIMA (Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average) time series model for wind speed is developed for a 99MW wind farm in the southern region of India. Because of the uncertainty in wind power developed, the economic viability and reliability of power generation is significant. Life Cycle Costing (LCC) method is used to determine the economic viability of WF generated power. Reliability models of WF are developed with the help of load curve of the utility grid and Capacity Outage Probability Table (COPT). ARIMA wind speed model is used for developing COPT. The values of annual reliability indices and variations of risk index of the WF with system peak load are calculated. Such reliability models of large WF can be used in generation system planning.
This paper aims to perform optimal operation and maintenance with an integrated monitoring system for offshore wind platforms. Based on the wind direction and wind speed data of existing wind farms, a monitoring system was established along with weather and weather data to maximize the operational efficiency of wind farms. Compared to wind power on land, offshore wind power is difficult to maintain due to weather, logistics and geographical limitations. Therefore, economic analysis of actual operation and maintenance is essential for large-scale offshore wind farms. In this paper, the availability of offshore wind farms was analyzed by using personnel resources, parts inventory, Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) and Specialized service Operation Vessel (SOV) etc. before the actual operation and maintenance of wind farms. A comparative analysis was conducted to determine the optimum operating efficiency and economical maintenance costs.
This research is a comprehensive analysis of wind power prediction sensitivity using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) deep learning neural network model, accounting for the inherent uncertainties in wind speed estimation. Utilizing a year's worth of operational data from an operational wind farm, the study forecasts the power output of both individual wind turbines and the farm collectively. Predictions were made daily at intervals of 10 minutes and 1 hour over a span of three months. The model's forecast accuracy was evaluated by comparing the root mean square error (RMSE), normalized RMSE (NRMSE), and correlation coefficients with actual power output data. Moreover, the research investigated how inaccuracies in wind speed inputs affect the power prediction sensitivity of the model. By simulating wind speed errors within a normal distribution range of 1% to 15%, the study analyzed their influence on the accuracy of power predictions. This investigation provided insights into the required wind speed prediction error rate to achieve an 8% power prediction error threshold, meeting the incentive standards for forecasting systems in renewable energy generation.
In this study, one-way fluid structure interaction analysis(FSI) on wind turbine blade was performed. Both a quantitative fluid analysis on 3-bladed wind turbine and a structural analysis using the surface pressure data resulting from fluid analysis were carried out. Streamlines and angle of attack was easily acquired from analysis results, we showed the inlet velocity that the stall begins to occur. In the structural analysis, structural displacement and maximum stress of the two comparative models was calculated. The location that has maximum stress was found. The pressure difference between back and front part of the blade increases as the inlet velocity increase. The torque and maximum with regard to inlet velocity was also presented.

Even in moderate to low seismic regions like Korean peninsular where wind loading usually governs the structural design of a tall building, the probable structural impact of the design basis earthquake or the maximum credible earthquake on the selected structural system should be considered at least in finalizing the design. In this study, by using response spectrum analysis and linear time history analysis method, seismic performance evaluation was conducted for wind-designed concentrically braced steel highrise buildings. Both spectrum-compatible artificial accelerograms and recorded accelerograms were used as input ground motions for the time history analysis. The analysis results showed that wind-designed concentrically braced steel highrise buildings possess significantly increased elastic seismic capacity due to the system overstrength resulting from the wind-serviceability criterion and the width-to-thickness ratio limits on steel members. Time history analysis results generally tended to underestimate the seismic response as compared to those of response spectrum analysis.
In this study, transient and quasi-static analysis were done for the evaluation of structural integrity of the platform screen door due to train wind pressure. Fluent 6.0 was used to calculate the train wind pressure, and Ansys 10.0 was used to evaluate the structural stability of platform screen door due to train wind pressure. Transient analysis was used to check the design requirements of platform screen door, and quasi-static analysis was introduced to save the calculating time and check quickly structural performances when compared to those of transient analysis. The results show that structural stability of the platform screen door under train wind pressure is proven and quasi-static analysis can quickly check the structural integrity of platform screen door.
