  • This paper presents an extension of the dynamic range in a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) active pixel sensor (APS) using a stacked photodiode and feedback structure. The proposed APS is composed of two additional MOSFETs and stacked P+/N-well/P-sub photodiodes as compared with a conventional APS. Using the proposed technique, the sensor can improve the spectral response and dynamic range. The spectral response is improved using an additional stacked P+/N-well photodiode, and the dynamic range is increased using the feedback structure. Although the size of the pixel is slightly larger than that of a conventional three-transistor APS, control of the dynamic range is much easier than that of the conventional methods using the feedback structure. The simulation and measurement results for the proposed APS demonstrate a wide dynamic range feature. The maximum dynamic range of the proposed sensor is greater than 103 dB. The designed circuit is fabricated by the $0.35-{\mu}m$ 2-poly 4-metal standard CMOS process, and its characteristics are evaluated.

  • Considerable progress has been made in the application of time-domain reflectrometry(TDR) to measurement of soil water content. The TDR provides a means of monitoring the water content of soil over a wide range of values, in the field and in the laboratory The TDR measures the volumetric moisture content of the soil via a bureid sensor(probe). Probes can be buried and monitored remotely and an immediate result can be obtained. In addition to, the results are very reliable.

  • Sensors of Landsat detect different objects with different waves, so the range of water quality conditions can be accurately checked, and their images can be displayed in colors. The present study was conducted to measure the degree of clearness and depth and to detect elements from the surface water of Hwajinpo Lake. Based on these results, water quality of the lake was analyzed, and the range of water quality was drawn graphically. According to comparison outcomes, the new technique of detecting water elements from DN of Landsat TM images and drawing the range of water quality produced a far more accurate pattern for a wide area than the direct measurement. To display the pattern more clearly, the stretching technique in particular was very effective in the pattern analysis.

  • The low channels with frequency range of 54~88MHz and the high channels with frequency range if 174~216 MHz are in use for TV broadcasting in Korea. Since the ratio of the highest frequency to the lowest frequency is 4 to 1, only a logarithmic periodic antenna cou1d cover such an wide frequency range. But, this log-periodic antenna should be big in size. Studies have been done on an antenna of small size with reasonable gain which combines through a channel filter a LPD antenna if low channel with boom length of 2m and a LPD antenna of high channel with boom length of 1.8m. The whole antenna is connected to feeder line through a talun. Experiment shows that the gain of low and high channels is 7 dB and 9 dB respectively, which are lower than theoretical values br nomore than ldB. The difference seemed to come from slight impedance mismatches between antennas and feeder lines, loss in the filter and measurement errors.

  • Laser flash technique was applied to measure thermal properties of FGM made by a CVD method. System stability and reproducibility of this measuring system were proved and calibrated with glassy carbon used as reference material. Specimens was prepared by cutting FGM diagonally. Measurements were performed for a wide range of temperatures up to 1500K. Relative heat capacity of the FGM specimen was scattered with in $\pm$13% at room temperature and at high temperature above 1200K, and $\pm$3% at medium temperature range. On the other hand, thermal diffusivity data showed excellent reproducibility and stability through the whole temperature range. In conclusion, the multi-target radiometer can be applied to measure the thermal properties of non homogeneous materials like FGM.

  • The control performance of hybrid PWM inverter using a phase current measurement is presented in this paper. The hybrid PWM technique consists of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and six-step voltage control operation. The SVPWM is performed to reduce the harmonic components in the low speed region, and the six-step modulation is applied to increase the maximum speed of the IPMSM in the high speed region. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a great performance in both the low speed range and high speed range. However, the six-step modulation cannot be completely implemented, since the inverter that includes the lag-shunt sensing method has an immeasurable current region. In this paper, a quasi-six-step modulation using a modified voltage vector is proposed. The validity and usefulness of the proposed PWM technique is verified by MATLAB/Simulink and experimental results.

  • N-IR spectroscopy technology is very useful. And, the technology has wide application range. In the range, we know that single beam type silica analyzer has some handicap. So we were studied Splitted beam type silica analyzer. This dissertation have been discuss about system structure, system fundamentals and performance test. At the test, we were study in the spectral interference of NH3. We know that existing system had some problem. It is structural frailties of single beam type. Therefore we were study for Splitted beam type structure. And we obtain a good result. We have $\pm$5% accuracy and 0.5 ppb level measuring range. But, we have a question. It is ppt level measuring technology by the laser beam spectroscopy.

  • Recent progresses in the live electrooptic imaging (LEI) technique are reviewed with emphasis on its functionality of real-time visual accesses to traveling electric waves in the GHz range. Together with the principles, configurations, and procedures for the visual observation experiments by an LEI camera system, the following results are described as examples indicating the wide application ranges of the technique; Ku-band waves on arrayed planar antennas, waves on a Gb/s-class digital circuit, W-band waves traveling both in slab-waveguide modes and aerially, backward-traveling wave along composite right/left-handed transmission line, and, waves in monolithic microwave integrated circuit module case.

  • A force/torque sensor using carbon fiber plate was designed and developed to make the sensor be able to measure a wide range of multi degree of force and torque. Using carbon fiber plate of 0.3 mm thickness, the sensor was designed and developed, which has a ${\mu}N$ level order of resolution and about 0.01 N ~ 390 N of wide measurement range. The elastic deformation part has a tripod plate structure and strain gauges are attached on the part to detect the force/torque. The coefficient of determination for the sensor is over 0.955 by the calibration experiment so that the linearity of the sensor is confirmed to be good. Also, experiments on applying 0.005 ~ 40 kg (0.05 ~ 390 N) to each axis were implemented and the sensor is proved to be safe under a high load. Finally, to verify the function calculating the direction of load vector, the directions of various load vectors which have the same magnitude but different directions and the directions of the calculated load vectors are compared and analyzed to accord well.
