A $PbTiO_{3}$ Transmitting/P(VDF-TrFE) Receiving Wideband Ultrasonic Transducer in VHF Band (VHF 대역에 있어서 $PbTiO_{3}$송신/P(VDF-TrFE) 수신 광대역 초음파변환자)

  • A new type of high frequency wideband ultrasonic transducer with a separation between a transmitter and a receiver was proposed and its characteristics were simulated using a PSpice model. The piezoelectric ceramic $PbTiO_{3}$ as a transmitter and the piezoelectric copolymer P(VDF- TrFE) as a receiver were used for high sensitivity and wide bandwidth, respectively. The characteristics of the focusing transducer with center frequency of approximately 35MHz fabricated in this study showed very wide bandwidth, which could give an axial spatial resolution better than $30{\mu}m$ in B-mode image for biological tissues.

Semi-lumped Balun Transformer using Coupled LC Resonators

  • This paper presents a semi-lumped balun transformer using conventional PCB process and its design theory and geometry for the maximally flat response and wide bandwidth using magnetically coupled LC resonators. The proposed balun is comprised of two pairs of coupled resonators which share one among three LC resonators. It provides an identical magnitude and phase difference of 180° between two balanced ports with DC isolation and an impedance transformation characteristic. Theoretical design and analysis were performed to optimize the inductance and capacitance values of proposed balun device for obtaining the wide bandwidth and maximally flat response in its pass-band. Three balun transformers with a center frequency of 500 MHz were demonstrated for proving the concept of design proposed. They were fabricated by using lumped chip capacitors and planar inductors embedded into a conventional 4-layered PCB substrate. They exhibited a maximum magnitude difference of 0.8 dB and phase difference within 2.4 degrees.

  • We analyzed photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence characteristics of various chirped quantum dot structures. Peaks in EL curves were contributed by excited states of quantum dots (QD), while those in PL curves by grounded states. Based on these characteristics, we suggested that superluminescent diodes with wide spectral bandwidth may be developed if chirped QD structures are designed to make a contribution by ground states to EL characteristics.

  • Bandwidth enhancement technique for a proximity coupled patch antenna is investigated. The bandwidth and radiation characteristics of a proximity coupled patch antenna with an integrated impedance matching network printed on substrates with various dielectric constants and thicknesses are compared to those of a proximity coupled patch antenna without an impedance matching network. The bandwidth of a proximity coupled patch antenna with an integrated impedance matching network is greatly increased than that of a proximity coupled patch antenna without an impedance matching network without the degradation of radiation characteristics.

  • In a high speed spindle system, it is very important to monitor the state of rotating rotor. Particularly in active control spindle system, the position sensor must provide feedback to the control system on the exact position of the rotor. In order to monitor the state of a high speed spindle exactly, high accuracy and wide frequency bandwidth of sensors are important. This paper observes the factors which has an effect on dynamic performances of inductive position sensor.

A Transformer-Matched Millimeter-Wave CMOS Power Amplifier

  • A differential power amplifier operating at millimeter-wave frequencies is demonstrated using a 65-nm CMOS technology. All of the input, output, and inter-stage network are implemented by transformers only, enabling impedance matching with low loss and a wide bandwidth. The millimeter-wave power amplifier exhibits measured small-signal gain exceeding 12.6 dB over a 3-dB bandwidth from 45 to 56 GHz. The output power and PAE are 13 dBm and 11.7%, respectively at 50 GHz.

  • A microstrip patch antenna with B-WLL applications is designed at 26.8GHz. A broad band is obtained by two additional parasitic elements which are closely located to the main patch. Bandwidth of the designed and manufactured antenna is 15% at the center frequency of 26.8GHz. Radiation pattern is measured over wide bandwidth.

  • Compared with traditional analog system, the Chinese VLBI Data Acquisition System (CDAS) is a digital one with better bandpass and wider bandwidth which allow weaker sources to be detected and measured by VLBI techniques. After optimizing and verifying the performance of CDAS in wide bandwidth observing mode, we performed an experiment by observing 85 weak sources along the ecliptic with Chinese VLBI stations located at Shanghai, Kunming and Urumqi. The capability of CDAS has been demonstrated for the detection of weak sources with improved sensitivity.
