Since 1985, the Ministry of Environment have supported environment conservation model schools (ECMS) to promote more structured and effective environmental education in schools. For driving ECMS to playa central role for sustainable schools in the community in Korea, international trends in foreign environmental education model schools need to be analysed in addition to overall evaluations of the present status. Eco-school related initiatives as whole-school approaches in other countries include Eco-Schools, Green School, Enviro School, and Sustainable School, etc. and most of them are usually involved in international network such as ENSI(Environment and School Initiatives) and FEE(Foundation for Environmental Education). This study was based on the literature analysis, which included available documents and reports of other countries from country reports, web-pages or official documents. Also, face-to-face or email interviews with personnels responsible for running such initiatives in a couple of countries were conducted. Implications for operating and supporting ECMS were provided based on the analysis and investigation on eco-school related initiatives of other countries, which included the main objective of initiatives, overall program direction, supporting methods, criteria for selection or accreditation, evaluation and monitoring.

In this thesis, I classified various meanings of fraction into two categories, i.e concept(rate, operator, division) and model(whole-part, measurement, allotment), and surveyed appearances which is shown in Korea elementary mathematics textbook. Based on this results, I derived several implications on learning-teaching of fraction in elementary education. Firstly, we have to pursuit a unified formation of fraction concept through a complementary advantage of various concepts and models Secondly, by clarifying the time which concepts and models of fraction are imported, we have to overcome a ambiguity or tacit usage of that. Thirdly, the present Korea's textbook need to be improved in usage of measurement model. It must be defined more explicitly and must be used in explanation of multiplication and division algorithm of fraction.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Jigsaw small inquiry method on science academic achievement and scientific attitudes. For this study, two classes of six graders were divided into a research group and a comparative group. The classes were pre-tested in order to ensure the same standard. The research group had the science class with Jigsaw small inquiry method, and the comparative group had the class with a teacher centered lectures for 12 classes for 12 weeks. The Jigsaw small inquiry method was focused on the introduction stage, the whole group activities, professional group activities, restart the whole group activities, supplementary structured study guide, results announced, and excellent group rewards. To prove the effects of this study, science learning motivation was split up based on the attention power, relation, confidence, and sense of satisfaction. The results of this study are as follows. First, Jigsaw small inquiry method is effective in science academic achievement. Second, Jigsaw small inquiry method is effective in scientific attitudes. Also, Jigsaw small inquiry method was approved by students. Consequently, Jigsaw small inquiry method had the great effects on developing science academic achievement for the elementary science class. That means the science class with Jigsaw small inquiry method has potential to develop science academic achievement and scientific attitudes.
National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA) is important standard reference to become the basic data for confirming the effect of the curriculum administrated and the educational policies put in force presently and preparing the new curriculum and educational policies. In this paper, we looked into the mean and standard deviation of the calibrated score of whole group and male/female students, the correct answer ratio of each performance level and the correct answer ratio of each content domain, etc. in the results of NAEA at 6th elementary school. The analytic objects are 2010 and 2011 NAEA that are changed into complete enumeration survey and the standard reference prepared on the basis of the new calibrated score is applied to. And we analysed and compared correct answer ratio of the each content domain and each item to conform the difference between male and female students. On the basis of the these informations, we investigated that here is what kind of characteristics and trends to the whole group and what kind of suggestions to the teaching-learning. And we were going to provide the information of the needs to understand which content of mathematics is needed and which thinking methods are needed.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of children's understanding of fractions in mathematics problem solving. Kieren has claimed that the concept of fractions is not a single construct, but consists of several interrelated subconstructs(i.e., part-whole, ratio, operator, quotient and measure). Later on, in the early 1980s, Behr et al. built on Kieren's conceptualization and suggested a theoretical model linking the five subconstructs of fractions to the operations of fractions, fraction equivalence and problem solving. In the present study we utilized this theoretical model as a reference to investigate children's understanding of fractions. The case study has been conducted with 6 children consisted of 4th to 5th graders to detect how they understand factions, and how their understanding influence problem solving of subconstructs, operations of fractions and equivalence. Children's understanding of fractions was categorized into "part-whole", "ratio", "operator", "quotient", "measure" and "result of operations". Most children solved the problems based on their conceptual structure of fractions. However, we could not find the particular relationships between children's understanding of fractions and fraction operations or fraction equivalence, while children's understanding of fractions significantly influences their solutions to the problems of five subconstructs of fractions. We suggested that the focus of teaching should be on the concept of fractions and the meaning of each operations of fractions rather than computational algorithm of fractions.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to arrange basic data necessary for education of AIDS and to prevent AIDS on undergraduates' knowledge or attitude toward AIDS. Methods : A self-administered questionnaire survey was used among 350 undergraduates in some of Jeonbuk and Gyeongnam area from September 9, 2009 to December 10, 2009 and then obtained the following results. Results : 1. Information route on AIDS was indicated to be higher in order of school education with 37.1% and TV & newspaper with 31.5% as for the health-related department. The health-unrelated department was indicated to be the highest in TV & newspaper with 67 people(43.8%), and had statistically significant difference(p<0.01). 2. The whole knowledge score on AIDS was indicated to be $12.72{\pm}2.67$ for the health-related department, resulting having been higher than the health-unrelated department with $11.84{\pm}3.30$. There was significant difference(p<0.01). The attitude score on AIDS was indicated to be $4.85{\pm}1.67$ for the health-related department, resulting having been higher than the health-unrelated department with $4.38{\pm}1.58$. There was significant difference(p<0.01). 3. Knowledge and attitude toward general AIDS stood at r=.112(p<0.05), thereby having had positive correlation. Knowledge and attitude toward AIDS infection stood at r=-.220(p<0.01), thereby having had negative correlation. Relationship between the whole knowledge and attitude toward AIDS stood at r=-.105(p<0.05), thereby having had negative correlation. Conclusions : AIDS is exponentially increasing in the whole world and is getting more serious. Even in our country, it is the tendency that the infected are gradually increasing. Health care of AIDS, which is impossible to be fully recovered and has no vaccine, is preferential to prevent infection. A continuous and efficient preventive education program is thought to be necessary for straightening wrong knowledge and prejudice on this by grasping right knowledge and attitude toward AIDS.

The purpose of this study is to perceive the importance of Club Activities in Home Economics Subject, to analyze the actual condition of management in them, and to develop the model for Home Economics Club Activities. The subjects of this investigation are 252 teachers, who teach Home Economics Subject at middle school located in ChungNam, ChungBuk, TaeJoen, and KyungKi. The results of this study are as follows : 1. Club Activity is one of the educational programs to enhance the desirable development of individuals. And Club Activity is the curricular activity to meet the individual's interest and need as a whole man. 2. In schools which were located in large cities, or large schools, of girls'school, it was investigated that students'opinions was well reflected with sub-plan and master plan for club activities. But as a whole the facilities and spaces, and financial conditions for club activities were not good. In addition, there was the test for club activities at most every year taken. The Club Activities was managed formally, not desirably. On the other hand there were some school which was trying to manage the good program. 3. The model for Club Activities was developed on the basis of the result of the investigation. On the basis of these results, it can be suggested : 1. There should be the right understanding about the whole man education. 2. It is necessary to have an emphasis on self-directed activities and chances in Home Economics Club Activities. 3. It is suggested that Home Economics Subject should be emphasized through the desirable Home Economics Club Activity. 4. In order to develop the model for the desirable Home Economics Club Activity, there should be the post study considering financial support, students'need, number of students continued.

An inquiry approach in teaching science has been advocated by many science educators for the past few decades, and most elementary and secondary science curricula have incorporated it in varying degrees. It has been proven in recent studies, however, that there exists considerable discrepancy between the expectation of outcomes of the inquiry approach and the actuality. This in part implies that there is a somewhat urgent need for the systematic evaluation of the approach in teaching science. The purpose of this study is to develop a comprehensive instrument for evaluating inquiry teaching approaches embedded in science curricular materials. To develop a more valid and reliable instrument a set of empirical data was used in the developmental procedure, and most of the previous studies regarding inquiry teaching method and inquiry evaluation were consulted. The inquiry evaluation method developed in this study, called the Scientific Inquiry Evaluation Inventory (SIEI), is composed of three parts: (1) analyzing and coding each science process task of inquiry activity; (2) evaluating each inquiry activity as a whole; and (3) evaluating each science laboratory curriculum as a whole. The first part of the instrument consists of twenty science process categories and thirty subcategories grouped into four sections: (1) gathering and organizing data; (2) interpreting and analyzing data; (3) synthesizing results and evaluation; and (4) hypothesizing and designing an experiment. The science process categories are arranged according to the level of difficulty, psychological level of thinking, degree of creativity demand, and the model of the process of scientific inquiry, which is also developed in the study. The second part of the instrument contains four evaluation scales of inquiry activity: (1) competition/cooperation scale; (2) discussion scale; (3) openness scale; and (4) inquiry scope scale. And the last part consists of three methods for evaluating a science laboratory curriculum as a whole: (1) inquiry pyramid; (2) inquiry index; and (3) difficulty index. The instrument is designed to be used by teachers, science curriculum developers and science education evaluators for the purpose of diagnosing the nature and appropriateness of scientific inquiry introduced in secondary science curricular materials, especailly in laboratory work and field work.

This research attempted to find out any implications for strategies to design and develop the connections between the activities of the brain function and the fields of English learning (dictation, word level, speaking, word memory, listening). Thus, in developing the brain based learning model for the English education, attempts need to be made to help learners to keep the whole brain toward learning. On this point, this study indicated the significant results for the exclusive brain location and the brainwaves on the each English learning field by the quantitative EEG analysis. The results of this study presented the guidelines for the balanced development of the left brain and the right brain to train the specific site of the brain connected to the English learning fields. In addition, whole brain training model is developed by the quantitative EEG data not by the theoretical learning methods focused on the right brain training.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of resistance training with and without whole-body vibration(WBV) on the biomechanical properties of the plantarflexor in the elderly women (>60 yrs., n=35). Thirty-five volunteers were randomly assigned to a resistance training with WBV group (RVT, n=14), a resistance training without WBV (RT, n=11), and a non-training control group (CON, n=10). The RVT and the RT groups participated in the training sessions three times a week for 8 weeks, followed by a 4-week detraining period. The CON group was instructed to refrain from any type of resistance training. To assess strength and activation of the plantarflexor muscles, maximum isometric ankle plantarflexion torque and muscle activation of the triceps surae muscles were measured using dynamometry, twitch interpolation technique and electromyography at four different ankle joint angles. Also, the lower extremity function was assessed by vertical jumping. The measurements were performed prior to, 2 and 8 weeks after the training and after a 4-week detraining period. Following the 8-week training sessions, an increase in the isometric plantarflexion strength was found to be greater for the RVT compared with the RT group (p<.05). Muscle inhibition was significantly decreased after training than before training only for the RVT (p<.05). Following the detraining period, a decrease in isometric plantarflexors strength and a increases in muscle inhibition were significantly less in the RVT compared with the RT group. In conclusion, the exercise with WBV is a feasible training modality for the elderly and seems to have a boosting effect when used with conventional resistance training.
