  • We have fabricated white organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) by co-doping of red and blue phosphorescent guest emitters into the single host layer. Tris(2-phenyl-1-quinoline) iridium(III) [$Ir(phq)_3$] and iridium(III)bis[(4,6-di-fluorophenyl)-pyridinato-$N,C^{2^{\prime}}$]picolinate (FIrpic) were used as red and blue dopants, respectively. The effects of dopant concentration on the emission, carrier conduction and external quantum efficiency characteristics of the devices were investigated. The emissions on the guest emitters were attributed to the energy transfer to the guest emitters and direct excitation by trapping of the carriers on the guest molecules. The white OLED with 5% FIrpic and 2% $Ir(phq)_3$ exhibited a maximum external quantum efficiency of 19.9% and a maximum current efficiency of 45.2 cd/A.

  • Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) has drawn a lot of attention in academic and industrial fields, which has been successfully commercialized in mobile phones and TV's. In the field of lighting, unlike the existing incandescent or fluorescent lighting, OLED has distinctive qualities such as surface lighting-emission, large-area, lightweight, ultrathin, flexibility in addition to low energy use. This article introduces prominent fluorescent, phosphorescent, and luminescent materials applied to white OLED (WOLED). The understanding and systematic classification of previously studied substances are expected to be greatly helpful for the development of new luminous materials in future.

  • We have fabricated organic white light emitting diodes by mixing two colors from very thin rubrene doped and non-doped DPVBi layers. The device structure was ITO/2-TNATA(15 nm)/${\alpha}$-NPD(35 nm)/DPVBi:rubrene(5 nm)/DPVBi(30 nm)/$Alq_{3}(5\;nm)$/BCP(5 nm)/LiF(0.5 nm)/Al(150 nm). The yellow-emitting rubrene of 0.7 wt % was doped into the blue-emitting DPVBi host for the white light. CIE coordinate of the device was (0.31, 0.33) at 8 V. The color coordinates were stable at wide ranges of driving voltages. The luminance was over $1,000\;cd/m^{2}$ at 8 V and increases to $14,500\;cd/m^{2}$ at 12 V. The maximum current efficiency of the device was 8.2 cd/A at $200\;cd/m^{2}$.

  • We demonstrated efficient white light emitting OLEDs with a single emissive layer structure, which was blue-emitting 1,4-bis[2,2-diphenylvinyl]biphenyl (DPVBi) doped with blue luminescent amino-substituted distyrylarylene amine (DSA-amine) and red luminescent [2,6-bis[2-[5-(dibutylamino) phenyl]vinyl]-4H -pyran-4-ylidene]propanedinitrile (DADB). Through the optimization of the device structure, the white light emission with full visible spectral range was obtained. Its CIE color coordinates was (0.32,0.42) at 10 $mA/cm^2$ and the external quantum efficiency, the luminance efficiency and the luminance yield were 3.7 %, 3.3 lm/W and 9.0 cd/A, respectively.

  • In this study, the white organic light emitting device was fabricated using ITO/a-NPD:DCM/a-NPD/BCP/Alq3/Al structure. Blue emission by a-NPD and orange emission by energy transfer between a-NPD and DCM embodied the white emission. The optimal structure of the white OLED is ITO/a-NPD:DCM(50$\square$)/a-NPD(150$\AA$)/BCP(100$\square$)/Alq$_3$(200$\square$)/Al. We varied the doping concentration of DCM properly and obtained high purity white emitting light. The CIE coordinate and maximum luminance of the devices was obtained (0.310, 0.333) and 400cd/$m^2$ at 11Volt.

  • In order to develop high efficiency white organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), OLED devices consisted of red and blue emitting layers (EMLs) were fabricated and the effect of respective layer thickness and the order of layer stacking on the luminous efficiency was evaluated Red/blue structure showed higher efficiency than blue/red, due to the higher exiton formation. In the blue layer of red/blue structure. However, the efficiency of the red/blue significantly depended on the thickness of the red layer, whereas the thickness of the blue layer was not affect so much. The optimum thickness of the red layer was 20 ${\AA}$, where the luminous and power efficiencies were 155 cd/A and 10.51 lm/W at 1000~3000$cd/m^2$ respectively and the maximum luminance was about 80,000 $cd/m^2$.

  • We investigate the effect of a light emitting layer (EML) sequence and an interlayer on the performance of the phosphorescent-fluorescent mixed white organic light emitting diodes. Two types of phosphorescent-fluorescent mixed system were evaluated. The proper position of each primary color EML was crucial to obtain best performance in each system whereas the effect of an interlayer was found to be different in both systems.

  • We studied white tandem organic light-emitting diodes using red and blue fluorescent materials. White 2 units tandem OLEDs were fabricated using $Alq_3$:Rubrene (3 vol.% 5 nm) and SH-1 : BD-2 (3 vol.% 25 nm) as emitting layer (EML). The device with $Alq_3$ : Rubrene (3 vol.% 5 nm) / SH-1 : BD-2 (3 vol.% 25 nm) showed yellowish white emission with a Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.442, 0.473) at $1,000cd/m^2$, and variation of CIE coordinates was low with ($0.44{\pm}0.002$, $0.472{\pm}0.001$) from 500 to $3,000cd/m^2$. White 3 units tandem OLEDs were fabricated by additory stacking the blue or white layer as EML. CIE coordinates of 3 units tandem OLEDs with stacked blue and white layer was low variation of ($0.293{\pm}0.008$, $0.36{\pm}0.005$) and ($0.412{\pm}0.002$, $0.423{\pm}0.001$) from 500 to $3,000cd/m^2$, respectively. Our findings suggest that stacked OLED was possible to controlling CIE coordinates and producing excellent color stability.

  • Color stable and efficient two wavelength white organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) were fabricated using a iridium(III)[bis(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,$C^2$'] picolinate (FIrpic) as a blue phosphorescent emitter and a bis(1-phenylisoquinolinato-$C^2$,N)iridium (acetylacetonate) ((piq)$_2$Ir(acac)) as a red phosphorescent emitter. The emitting layers consist of two blue emitting layers and one red emitting layer which is between the two blue layers. The device reaches the peak efficiencies of 7.84 % and 10.3 cd/A at 0.6 mA/$cm^2$. Furthermore, there was little change of EL spectra according to current density change in the device.
