Changes of Electroencephalography & Cognitive Function in Subjects with White Matter Degeneration (대뇌 백질 변성을 보인 환자에서의 뇌파와 인지기능의 변화)

  • Background : Spatial analysis of EEG is a phenomenal assessment and not so informative for phase space and dynamic aspect of EEG data. In contrast, nonlinear EEG analysis attempts to characterize the dynamics of neural networks in the brain. We have analyzed the features of EEG nonlinearly in subjects with white matter change on brain MRI and compared the results with cognitive function in each. Methods : Digital EEG data were taken for 30 seconds in 9 subjects with white matter degeneration and in 5 healthy normal controls without white matter change on MRI. Then we analyzed them nonlinearly to calculate the correlation dimension(D2) using the MATLAB software. The cognitive function was assessed by 3MS(modified mini-mental state examination). The severity of white matter change was assessed by Scheltens scale. Results : The mean D2 value of normal control was greater than that of white matter degeneration group. The D2s of some channels were correlative with 3MS and degree of white matter degeneration significantly. Conclusions : nonlinear analysis of EEG can be used as one of adjuvant functional studies for prediction of cognitive impairment in subjects with white matter degeneration and subcortical white matter change can be influential on cognitive function and correlation dimension of EEG.

Convenient Method for the Determination of Foaming Properties of Egg White and Its Verification (난백 거품형성능력 및 안정성 평가를 위한 간편 측정방법과 실용성 검증)

  • Convenient method for determination of egg white foaming properties was suggested. Highly reproducible results were obtained when 70g egg white was whipped at 1,200 rpm for 2 min. Using standardized testing method, foaming capacity and stability of egg white samples including fresh egg white, freeze-dried egg white and commercial egg white powder were effectively differentiated. Foaming capacity of egg white was not affected during storage of fresh egg white up to 4 weeks at $4^{\circ}C$, whereas foaming stability significantly decreased after 2 weeks of storage.

Variant Identification in Platanus occidentalis L. Using SNP and ISSR Markers

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the variant of Platanus occidentalis, whose bark looks white, also can be classified as P. occidentalis and to examine its genetic difference from the general P. occidentalis. For the variant identification of P. occidentalis, SNP and ISSR analysis were used in this study. Thirteen samples of P. occidentalis white variant were collected in Cheongju and 24 samples of normal P. occidentalis obtained in Cheongju, Pyongtaek, Ansan, Suwon, Osan and Jincheon area. ITS 1 and ITS 2 sequences of white variants were identical with those of P. occidentalis. We could not find any sequence difference between normal and white P. occidentalis. So we concluded that the white variant belongs to normal P. occidentalis even their bark is white and peeled easily. By ISSR test, 98 amplicons were acquired using 10 primers. P. occidentalis and white P. occidentalis showed different band patterns from the UBC #834. According to the result of Nei (1979)'s genetic distance analysis, the members of white P. occidentalis were grouped more tightly than the members of normal P. occidentalis. The UPGMA dendrogram shows that the variant and P. occidentalis divided widely into two groups. These results show that the phenotype of P. occidentalis white variant is caused by genetic factors rather than by environmental factors.

  • Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain is famous for its unique form and colour of cobalt. It is said to be producted from the late of 14th Century to now. Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain of 14th Century has a Mum design similar to that of Blue and White Porcelain of 14th Century in China. The Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain of 15th, 16th Century was trade Ceramics which were shipped overseas. A base, having a dated inscription corresponding to 1450 and kept in the Topkapi Saray Museum is the best example of Vietnamese trade ceramics. The Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain of 15th, 16th Century was a substitute for Chinese trade ceramics in these times when China had a police of the closure of China borderers to sea trade to protect China and was exported to the western Asia and the Southeast Asia. In recent, Fustat relics of Egypt was excavated the Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain. It means that Vietnamese Ceramics of 15th, 16th Century was substitute for Chinese trade ceramics. In addition, Thai Blue celadon of 15th Century was exported to the western Asia as like Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain. But when a police of the closure of China borderers to sea trade in China was stopped in the late of 16th Century and Chinese Ceramics were reborn in the same time, the Vietnamese Blue and White Porcelain was declined as trade items.

  • White noise distribution theory over the complex Gaussian space is established on the basis of the recently developed white noise operator theory. Unitarity condition for a white noise operator is discussed by means of the operator symbol and complex Gaussian integration. Concerning the overcompleteness of the exponential vectors, a coherent sate representation of a white noise function is uniquely specified from the diagonal coherent state representation of the associated multiplication operator.

  • Traditional Antheraea pernyi silkworm cocoon is tawny color. The white Antheraea pernyi silkworm cocoons studied here by IR and UV are new breeds of recent breeding. We discovered that the main body of the first grade structure of silk protein in the new white is as same as the one in the traditional tawny Antheraea pernyi silkworm cocoon, yet there are small quantities of cross-linked polymer of gentisic acid and silk protein in the white silkworm cocoons. In spite of the least surviving quantity of the polymer, the white silkworm cocoons are most white and its white color is similar to white Bombyx mori silkworm cocoon.

  • In the full white pattern, white uniformity means the degree of uniform distribution of white color and luminance across the whole screen. Among the FPDs(Flat Panel Displays), the TFT-LCD has weak point of viewing angle. The viewing angle considering location and direction can cause different image quality of the TFT-LCD. Therefore, white uniformity of the TFT-LCD must consider viewing angle. Based on international standards, this study proposes an alternative that is realistic and ergonomic measurement of white uniformity of the TFT-LCD.

Comparative Study of Red Ginseng and White Ginseng (I) -Effect of Red and White Ginseng on the growth of Broiler Chicken- (홍삼(紅蔘)과 백삼(白蔘)의 비교연구(比較硏究)(I) -홍삼과 백삼이 육용추(肉用雛)의 발육에 미치는 영향-)

  • To compare the effects of red Ginseng and white Ginseng on the growth of experimental animals, both Ginseng were given to Broiler male chicken. Red and white Ginseng were administered to Broiler chicken in doses of 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4g per kg weight of chicken. The increase in weight were 282g in red Ginseng group and 162g in white Ginseng group compared with control group. The increase of the feeding amounts per kg weight were 2.4kg for red Ginseng group, 2.67kg for white Ginseng group and 2.87kg for non-treated group. The growth of each organ in the red Ginseng group showed favorable increase trend than white Ginseng group as a whole and, particularly, considerable significance were observed in liver and brain. These results suggest that red Ginseng has better effect on the growth of chicken and organ than white Ginseng does.

  • White Noise는 일반적으로 이완의 감성을 유발한다고 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 두 종류의 음향에 White Noise를 혼합하였을 때 사용자에게 이완의 감성을 유발시킬 수 있는지 실험을 통하여 검증하였다. 실험은 20명의 피험자를 대상으로 원본 음향과 White Noise가 추가된 음향을 들려주고, 각성-이완에 대한 주관적 설문과 중추신경계 반응 그리고 자율신경계 반응을 측정하였다. 실험결과는 t-test를 통하여 음향 별 감성평가 유의성 검증을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 White Noise가 혼합된 음향은 그렇지 않은 음향에 비해 이완감성 측정값이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 White Noise가 혼합된 음향은 이완 유발 효과가 크다고 할 수 있다.

Properties of the White 5K Au-Ag-In Alloys with Indium Contents (백색 5K Au-Ag-In 합금재의 인듐 첨가량에 따른 물성 변화)

  • In order to replace 14K white gold alloys, the properties of 5K white gold alloys (Au20-Ag80) were investigated by changing the contents of In (0.0-10.0 wt%). Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) was used to determine the precise content of alloys. Properties of the alloys such as hardness, melting point, color difference, and corrosion resistance were determined using Vickers Hardness test, TGA-DTA, UV-VIS-NIR-colorimetry, and salt-spray tests, respectively. Wetting angle analysis was performed to determine the wettability of the alloys on plaster. The results of the EDS analysis confirmed that the Au-Ag-In alloys had been fabricated with the intended composition. The results of the Vickers hardness test revealed that each Au-Ag-In alloy had higher mechanical hardness than that of 14K white gold. TGA-DTA analysis showed that the melting point decreased with an increase in the In content. In particular, the alloy containing 10.0 wt% In showed a lower melting temperature (> $70^{\circ}C$) than the other alloys, which implied that alloys containing 10.0 wt% In can be used as soldering materials for Au-Ag-In alloys. Color difference analysis also revealed that all the Au-Ag-In alloys showed a color difference of less than 6.51 with respect to 14K white gold, which implied a white metallic color. A 72-h salt-spray test confirmed that the Au-AgIn alloys showed better corrosion resistance than 14K white gold alloys. All Au-Ag-In alloys showed wetting angle similar to that of 14K white gold alloys. It was observed that the 10.0 wt% In alloy had a very small wetting angle, further confirming it as a good soldering material for white metals. Our results show that white 5K Au-Ag-In alloys with appropriate properties might be successful substitutes for 14K white gold alloys.
