$DF_{21}$ diesel locomotive was designed to satisfy the requirement of Kunming Meter track and the 2Co self-guided radial bogie was used to suit the complex curve track. There are totally 12 locomotives was served on the track. The first two locomotives were devotion running on the track since April 2003, the wheel tread splling was occurred on the middle wheel set of the two locomotives after running nearly 150 thousands km on the track of the two locomotives at August 2004. The dynamic analysis was carried out to find the reason. The wheel set longitudinal vibration resonance phenomenon was existed on the locomotive dynamic performance, and this was caused by the too big longitudinal stiffness of the journal box bar on the middle wheel set. Wheel set longitudinal vibration resonance maybe an important reason of lead to wheel tread spalling. The corresponding mend methods were put forward from the point of view of wheel set longitudinal vibration resonance. All the wheel tread of the 12 locomotives on the middle wheel set were in good condition and not occurred the wheel tread spalling after the mend till December 2007 after 350 thousands km were finished. The mechanism of the wheel tread splling and corresponding mend method was discussed in detail in this paper.
A geometric contact conditions of wheel/rail affect the dynamic behavior of rolling stock. Mechanical force acted on the wheel/rail causes excessive wear and increase the maintenance cost. In this study, we have studied the dynamic behavior of the urban railway vehicle with new and worn wheel by VAMPIRE program. And we have tested the accelerations of wheelset on the conventional line. The results of simulation are compared with the measuring data of field test. It shows that the acceleration of worn wheel is greater than the acceleration of new wheel in the straight track line but on the contrary, the acceleration of new wheel is greater than the acceleration of worn wheel in curved track. That results explain that the new wheel is worn out greater than the worn wheel in curved track line and need to be maintained more seriously when running in curved track line.

This paper describes terrain-adaptive attitude controller for a hybrid mobile platform which operates in wheel & track mode. The wheel mode of the hybrid mobile platform allows quick driving performance in the flatland, while the track mode provides adaptive movement in the rough ground or stairway. The switching of the platform between two modes is automatically controlled by attitude controller algorithm. In addition, in the track mode, the platform automatically adjusts its attitude angle to overcome the obstacles in front. This paper demonstrates the attitude controller for the aforementioned wheel-track hybrid mobile platform in order to overcome terrain obstacles by using an adaptive method. The driving performance of the hybrid mobile platform has been tested and verified in various surrounding environments in both wheel and track mode. Further, this paper presents the experiments by using the track structure of mobile platform on forming adaptive attitude under various types of obstacles. The practicability and effectiveness of the proposed attitude controller of the platform has been demonstrated in urban building and a test-bed.

The coupled vibration of a wheel-railway track system has been considered as that of a moving mass on a beam. In this paper, an analytical model is proposed to analyze the coupled vibration when a wheel travels on a railway track. The railway track supported by sleepers is considered as a beam on Winkler's foundations, and the wheel traveling on railway track at constant speed is considered as a moving mass. Hertz's contact stiffness is assumed between the wheel and railway track. Numerical results are compared with experimental ones to verify the validity of the numerical method. The numerical method in found to be efficient to analyze this system. Based on the numerical simulation, the appropriate analysis range of the beam model and the characteristics of coupled vibration are discussed.

In this study, modeling and analysis procedure for the dynamic analysis of a high mobility tracked vehicle system were studied. The vehicle model used in this investigation is assumed to be consist of two kinematically decoupled subsystems. The chassis subsystem consists of chassis frame, sprocket, support rollers, road wheels, idler wheel, road wheel arms and idle wheel arm, while the track subsystem is represented as a closed kinematic chain consisting of track links and end connectors interconnected by revolute joints with bushing. Nonlinear contact force module describing the interaction between track link, and sprocket, idler wheel, road wheel, support roller, ground was used. The effects of road wheel arms and idler wheel arm due to tension adjuster are also considered.
The coefficient of derailment and the rate of wheel load reduction were used as the index of train running safety that was directly affected the train derailment safety. In aspects of track, the train running safety depends on the complex interaction between wheel and rail, and the track-vehicle conditions (i.e., the curvature, cant, track system, vehicle speed and the operation conditions, etc). In this study, the relationship between the train running safety and the track curvature and vehicle speed for direct fixation concrete tracks currently employed in Korean light rapid transit was assessed by performing field tests using actual vehicles running along the service lines. The measured dynamic wheel load, lateral wheel load and lateral displacement of rail head were measured for same train running on four tested tracks under real conditions, which included curved and tangent tracks placed on the tunnel and bridge, thus increasing the train speed by approximately maximum design speed of each test site. Therefore, the measured dynamic track response was applied to the running safety analysis in order to evaluate the coefficient of derailment, the rate of wheel load reduction and the track gauge widening at each test site, and compare with the corresponding Korean train running safety standard. As the results, the lateral track response of direct fixation concrete track appeared to increase with the decreased track curvature; therefore, it was inferred that the track curvature directly affected the train running safety.

In this study, shape-based track management by analyzing track irregularity was studied in terms of force-based track irregularity analysis by numerical analysis of wheel-rail interaction force using by the measured vertical irregularity. The effect of the vertical irregularity of the track due to the difference in track types on the wheel-rail interaction force and the track acceleration in the connecting section of the sleeper floating track and the direct fixation track on concrete bed were analyzed. As the results of this study, the measured vertical irregularity was directly affect the vertical wheel load (the wheel-rail interaction force) and the rail acceleration, and it has been demonstrated to change consistently. In this study, the adequacy and necessity of the force-based track irregularity analysis method was verified based on the wheel-rail interaction analysis using the the measured vertical irregularity.
At high rail temperature above the neutral temperature, high compressive axial stresses will occur in the rails. High thermal axial force and vehicle loads cause the track to shift in a lateral direction and the formation of track geometry imperfections (track irregularity). When the thermal stress level and track irregularity with vehicle load reach a critical value, the track loses stability. In many studies, the stability of CWR tracks is analyzed. However these studies are only considered in temperature load. The main objective of this investigation was to estimate a new, comprehensive, realistic, the stability of CWR tracks considering wheel load. The ballast resistance is changed by wheel load. When the wheel load is applied, rails and ties are moved upward or downward. In this case the friction between ties and ballasts is decreased or increased. In this study the change of the ballast resistance of each tie was applied to the nonlinear analysis of CWR tracks.
In this paper, the track impact factor of conventional line was evaluated using the data for wheel load measured in field and the properties of current operating trains. The equation for track impact factor was presented through the statistical analysis of variational ratio in wheel load and compared with other design equations in domestic and foreign countries. A review on the safety of track system in conventional line was made from the relationship between the velocity and the corresponding impact factor. It was found that the impact factor from the proposed equation is a little less than the values from the equations adopted in both AREA and domestic railway, while it is same as the equation for continuous welded rail(CWR) in Japan. Therefore it could be said that the track satisfies a criteria for dynamic load caused by the train and the corresponding level of safety is guaranteed for dynamic load of the train

When vehicle travelling along the track which has irregularity such as vertical profile, dynamic forces arise at the Wheel/Rail contact patch by wheel/rail interaction. In particular short wavelength irregularities on dipped joint and small stiffness of connecting rail bring about intense wheel/rail dynamic effects at higher speed. In the paper, a new model for dipped joint rail is developed to study dynamic behavior of track. A cusp behavior on dipped joint was defined by its amplitude and decay factor, which was presented by FRA track classes. The result of case study are presented, which show wheel rail contact force in each track classes, train operation speed and bending flexible rigidity ratio of fishplates which are connecting the rail.
