This study deals with the development of the extended Kalman filter(EKF) algorithm for the localization of underwater mining vehicles. Both simulation and experimental studies in a test bed are carried out. For the experiments, a scale dawn tracked vehicle is run in a soil bin containing cohesive soil of bentonite-water mixture. To develop the EKF algorithm, we use a kinematic model including the inner/outer track slips and the slip angle for the vehicle. The measurements include the inner and outer wheel speeds from encoders, the heading angle from a compass sensor and a fiber optic rate gyro, and x and y coordinate position values from a vision system. The vision sensor replaces the LBL(Long Base Line) sonar system used in the real underwater positioning situations. Artificial noise signals mimicking the real LBL noise signal are added to the vision sensor information. To know the mean slip values of the tracks in both straight and cornering maneuver, several trial running experiments are executed before applying the EKF algorithm. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the EKF algorithm in rejecting the sensor measurements noise. Also, the simulation and experimental results show close correlations.

The solenoid valve in ABS hydraulic modulator is a two directional on-off valve and is controlled by around 100Hz high speed pulse width modulation. When the valve is switched from open state to closed state, noise and vibration due to pressure surge phenomena in the hydraulic line and wheel cylinder are made. In this study, we identify Pressure surge phenomenon in the braking process of a ABS, and investigate the way to reduce the phenomenon. For the purpose of theoretical analysis on the pressure surge in the closed state hydraulic line, characteristic curve method based on wave equation was utilized. To reduce the surge, high frequency control of 20kHz was attempted. The result showed that the surge pressure of 50% was reduced compared to one observed in the low frequency control. Duty variation of high frequency can control current of solenoid valve and prevent sudden change of displacement.

A PAEM(Pneumatic Active Engine Mount) system has been developed to improve NVH performance of a SUV in idle state. Control objective to attenuate the vibration of a vehicle should be determined prior to the design of control algorithm. This study presents the correlation analysis of output variables of PAEM system by means of TPA(Transfer Path Analysis) using experimental data obtained by vehicle test. The analysis results show that the vibration of vertical direction is more serious than those of longitudinal and lateral direction of the vehicle, and that the correlation between the vibration of front seat rail and that of steer wheel is highest. In conclusion, the vibrations of front seat rail and steer wheel in vertical direction should be considered as the control objectives of the PAEM.

As the optical communication industry is developed, the demand of optical communication part is increasing. ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is very important part which can determines the transmission efficiency and information quality to connect the optical fibers. In general ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is manufactured by grinding process because the demands precision is very high. And the co-axle grinding process of ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is to make its concentricity all of uniform before centerless grinding. This paper deals with the analysis of the process parameters such as grinding wheel speed, grinding feedrate and regulating wheel speed as influential factors, on the concentricity and surface finish developed based on Taguchi's experimental design methods. Taguchi s tools such as orthogonal array, signal-to-noise ratio, factor effect analysis, etc. have been used for this purpose optimal condition has been found out. Thus, if possible be finding highly efficient and quality grinding conditions.
Station is an important building in high-speed railway, and its vibration and noise may significantly affect the comfort of waiting passengers. A coupling vibration model for train-structure system is established to analyze and evaluate the vibration level of a typical waiting hall under dynamic train load. The motion of a four-axle vehicle with two suspension system is modeled in multi-body dynamics with linear springs and dampers employed. The station is modeled as a whole finite element structure which is 113 m in longitudinal and 163.5 m in lateral, and the stiffness of the station foundation is considered. According to the assumptions that both wheel and rail are rigid bodies and keep contact to each other in vertical direction, and the wheel/rail interaction and displacement coordination in horizontal direction is defined by the simplified Kalker creep theory, the vehicle spatial vibration model has 27 degrees-of-freedom. An overall analysis procedure is made of the train moving through the station, by which the dynamic responses of the train and the station are calculated. According to the comparison between analysis and test results, the actual connection status between different parts of the station is estimated and the vibration level of the waiting hall is evaluated.
Railway noise and vibration has been recognized as major problems with the speed-up of rolling stock. As a kind of solution to these problems, the decrease of stiffness of track pad have been tried. However, in this case, overturning of rail due to lateral force should be considered because it can have effect on the safety of running train. Therefore, above two things - decrease of stiffness of track pad and overturning of rail due to lateral force - should be considered simultaneously for the appropriate determination of spring coefficient of track pad. With this viewpoint, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated through the comparison between the theoretical relationship about the overturning of rail and 3-dimensional FE analysis result. Two kinds of Lateral force and wheel load are used as input loads. Extracted values from the conventional estimation formula and the Shinkansen design loads are used. It is found that the overturning of rail changes corresponding to the change of the stiffness of track pad and the ratio of lateral force to wheel load. Moreover, it is found that the analysis model can have influence on the results. Through these procedure, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated.
In this paper, in order to analyze dynamic characteristics of an automobile steering system consisting of many components, natural frequencies and transfer functions of each component and the total system are found on a FFT analyzer by experiments. Then, the data are transmitted to a commercial package program, CADA-PC. By analyzing the data, the mode shape of each natural frequency and damping values are obtained. Also, the function of a rubber coupling in column and telescoping effects on system are considered. C.A.E commercial programs are used to compare with the results of experiments. For the finite element modeling, I-DEAS is used. Data processing and post processing are operated on NASTRAN and XL, respectively. The ball-bearing and the linkage of shaft with column are modeled by spring element. Stiffness is modified from the results of experiments. The results of those show close agreement. In the mode shape of total system, wheel mode is dominant at lower frequency, while the column mode is main mode at higher. The role of rubber coupling in vibration isolation is clear on mode shape. Telescoping function makes natural frequency of column changed.
Brake judder{or cold judder) caused by the disc thickness variation(DTV) is investigated experimentally, This cold judder is often perceived by steering wheel vibration, brake pedal pulsation, and vehicle body vibration. In this paper, how the DTV profile affects the vibration characteristics of vehicle body is shown by order tracking analysis(OTA) and operational vibration analysis(OVA) The tri-axial vibrations are measured at the knuckle, lower rm, and the body side of the lower arm. Also, measured are the wheel speed and the detail DTV profile. The interpretations of OTA results in three directions of tested vehicle indicate the relative importance in the contribution of the run-out and the DTV to the judder vibration. Also, the OVA results show the prominent vibration amplitude of the lower arm in the direction of the vehicle movement. in which the second order of wheel speed is dominant. These results could be used to diagnose the judder problem and to establish the correction methods.
Approximate empirical equations obtained by measuring overall noise levels at different distances have been used to evaluate environmental influence of the railway noise though the accurate prediction of noise levels is important. In this paper, a noise prediction model considering the frequency characteristics of noise sources and propagation was suggested to improve the accuracy of noise prediction. The railway noise source was assorted into track, wheel, traction and aerodynamic components and they were characterized with the source strength and speed coefficient at each octave-band frequency. Correction terms for the acoustic roughness and the track/bridge condition were introduced. The sound attenuation from a source to a receiver was calculated taking account of the geometrical divergence, atmospheric absorption, ground effect, diffraction at obstacles and directivity of source by applying ISO 9613-2. For obtaining the source strength and speed coefficients, the results of rolling noise model, numerical analysis and measurements of pass-by noise were analyzed. We compared the predicted and measured noise levels in various vehicles and tracks, and verified the accuracy of the present model. It is found that the present model gives less error than the conventional one, so that it can be applied to make the accurate prediction of railway noise effect and establish its countermeasures efficiently.
PURPOSES : The purpose of this article is to compare and evaluate the riding comfort of a passenger in tunnels depending on different surface textures of concrete pavement. METHODS : Evaluation of riding comfort is conducted at 17 sections, which have different surface texture such as transverse tinned(TT), longitudinal tinned(LT) and diamond grinded(DG). A triaxial accelerometer was set up on the passenger seat surface of the test vehicle to measure vibrations of an occupant, then the effects of vibration on comfort and health were evaluated by ISO 2631. And microphones were installed at passenger's ears height to measure sound pressure level(SPL) in the test vehicle. Additionally, a surface microphone was installed on the inside of wheel arch to evaluate noise between tire and pavement by NCPX method. All tests were conducted cruising at 100km/h. RESULTS : The results of all tests are as follows. First, both vibration magnitudes for comfort and for health in LT and DG sections are almost same and they represent lower than those in TT sections. Second, the average SPL of DG shows the lowest decibels among them. And third, it is founded that interior noise is significantly affected by noise between tire and pavement. CONCLUSIONS : It may be concluded that DG can provide more excellent riding comfort to passenger than LT or TT. Therefore, it is necessary to consider applying DG to existing pavement surface to improve surface condition when the driving environment especially requires riding comfort like a long tunnel.
