  • An analysis model has been developed to assess running safety of railway vehicle passing curves. By using ADAMS/Rail, a computer analysis has been conducted by changing various parameters according to the track conditions. Analysis results show as follows: A derailment coefficient of left wheel was increased according to increase of cant at low speed, while it was decreased as increase of cant at high speed. A unload rate of left wheel was also increased according to increase of cant at low speed, while it was decreased as increase of cant at high speed. A wear number of left wheel was increased according to increase of cant at all speed, but only at 35 m/s, it was decreased as increase of cant. A friction coefficient of left wheel was Increased according to increase of cant at all speed, but only at 35 m/s. it was decreased as increase of cant.

  • Shielding the air-gap magnetic field of the electrodynamic wheel below a conductive plate and opening the shielding plate partially, a thrust force and a normal force generate on the conductive plate at the open area. But, as only the variable controlling both forces is a rotating speed of the electrodynamic wheel, it is very difficult to control the forces independently by the speed. So, we discuss a novel method controlling the forces effectively through manipulating a size of the open area. The independent control is made possible by virtue of the feature that the relative ratio between both forces is irrelevant to an air-gap length and determined uniquely for a specific rotating speed of the wheel. Therefore, the rotating speed and the size of open area become new control variables. The feasibility of the method is verified experimentally. Specially, the controllable magnetic forces are used in a noncontact conveyance of the conductive plate.

  • The numerical results on the stress distributions of rail-wheel contact problems are presented for three models in a high-speed rail system. These models which have straight and tapered (1:40 and 1:20) contact geometries between the wheelset and rail are analyzed using the finite element approach. From the simulation results we found that the tapered geometry (1:20) of railwheel contact base line showed very stable contact stress distributions for a whole contact position between the wheel and rail in a curved rail section. The FEM computed results may present an optimized slope geometry of rail-wheel contact in a high-speed railway system.

  • The magnetostriction versus field (${\lambda}-H$) curves for the melt-spun ribbons of $Dy_{x}{(Fe_{1-y}B_{y})}_{1-x}$ (x=0.2, 0.25, 0.3; y=0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2) alloys are measured systematically at various wheel speeds ranging from 10 to 50 m/sec. The ${\lambda}-H$ curves in most cases vary sensitively with the wheel speed and, in the wheel speed range where no amorphous phase is formed, the magnetic softness improves rather continuously with the wheel speed. This result is considered to be due to the reduced grain size with increasing wheel speed, which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. In particular, homogeneous and ultrafine grains with size of about 10 nm are formed even in the as-spun state when the $Dy_{0.3}{(Fe_{1-y}B_{y})}_{0.7}$ alloys are quenched at the wheel speed of 30 m/sec (for the alloy with y=0.2) or 40 m/sec (for the alloys with $y{\leq}0.15$) and the ribbons having the nanocrystalline grain structure exhibit good magnetostrictive characteristics.

  • Because the chatter vibration is a main factor to damage on the quality, The cure is require peticually in cylinderical plunge grinding. The chatter vibration is with wheel speed, workpiece speed and infreed rate. Therefore, in this study, we expressed more credible chatter frequency in accordiance with wheel speed by FFT after accereleration sensing.

  • The in-wheel motor used in green car was designed and constructed for an electric direct-drive traction system. It is difficult to connect cooling water piping because the in-wheel motor is located within the wheel structure. In the air cooling structure for the in-wheel motor, a outer surface on the housing is provided with cooling grooves to increase the heat transfer area. In this study, we carried out the analysis on the fluid flow and thermal characteristics of the in-wheel motor under the effects of motor speed and heat generation. In order to check the problem of heat release, the analysis has been performed using conjugate heat transfer (conduction and convection). As a result, flow fields and temperature distribution inside the in-wheel motor were obtained for base speed condition (1250 rpm) and maximum speed condition (5000 rpm). Also, the thermo-flow characteristics analysis of in-wheel motor for vehicles was performed in consideration of ram air effect. Therefore, we checked the feasibility of the air cooling for the housing geometry having cooling grooves and investigated the cooling performance enhancement.

  • The torque loads acting on the input shaft of the transmission and final driving shaft of the tractor having a cage wheel attached to the driving tries as a traction aid were measured during the rotavating operations in a poorly drained paddy field. Using the measured load data load spectra were constructed. Effects of the design parameters of the cage wheel on the load characteristics were also analyzed. The torque load exerted on the input shaft decreased as the diameter of the cage wheel increased and increased as the rotavator speed increased. The torque load exerted on the final driving shaft increased as the working speed of the tractor increased and decreased as the rotavator speed increased. The torque load on the final driving shaft with the cage wheel were greater than those without the cage wheel.

  • The railway vehicle is composed of many suspension components, such as 1st springs, 2nd dampers, that have an influence on the dynamic characteristics of high speed train. Also, the wheel/rail shapes and its contact mechanism affect the dynamic behavior of high speed train. but these geometric contact characteristics are nonlinear functions of the wheelset lateral displacement and it do not exact dynamic analysis for high speed train. there is a need to develop a new wheel/rail contact module for dynamic behavior and wheelset model is divided motor box, wheel box and wheel body. This wheel is moved by motor box and constrained by joint. It is almost same a train and its result is more exactly.

Their load spectra were also calculated. Effects of design parameters of the cage wheel on the load characteristics were analyzed. The torque load exerted on the input shaft decreased as diameter of the cage wheel increased and increased as the rotating speed of the rotavator increased. The torque load exerted on the driving shaft increased as the working speed of the tractor increased and decreased as the PTO speed increased. Both the torque loads with the cage wheel were greater than those without the cage wheel. The cage wheel was developed for this study.

  • A problem in the grinding with a small diametric wheel is the decrease of wheel speed. In order to resolve this problem, an accelerating unit which increases the wheel speed is recommended. In this paper, the accelerating effect of an accelerating unit has been investigated through the side-cut grinding experiments performed with a vitrified bonded CBN wheel in a machining center(MC). The static stiffness, normal force, and machining error were measured in the experiments. As the accelerating unit is attached on the column of machining center, the static stiffness of tool system is largely decreased. But as the wheel speed increased by the accelerating unit, this problem is overcome and machining efficiency is improved. The lesser the quill stiffness was, the higher the accelerating effect became.
