  • The limited slip differential(LSD) is a device which enables the driving force to be transmitted from one slipping wheel to another wheel in such case that the car is stuck in clay or snow. When the unwanted slipping occurs on one wheel, the LSD temporarily restraints the differential motion to transmit the driving force in the other wheel. So far, many types of LSD were developed such as mechanical lock type, disk clutch type, viscous coupling type, torsion type and multiple clutch type. we designed a new type of the hydraulic LSD which uses the principle of trochoid gear pump.

  • For navigation of a mobile robot, it is one of the essential tasks to find out its current position. Dead reckonining is the most frequently used method to estimate its position. Hpwever conventional dead reckoner is prone to give us false information on the robot position especially when the wheels are slipping. This paper proposes an improved dead reckoning scheme using neural networks. The network detects the instance of wheel slopping and estimates the linear velocity of the wheel; thus it calculates current position and heading angle of a mobile robot. The structure and variables of the nerual network are chosen in consideration of slip motion characteristics. A series of experiments are performed to train the networks and to investigate the performance of the improved dead reckoning system.

  • This paper describes a robust and fast wheel slip tracking control using a moving sliding surface technique. A traction control system (TCS) is the active safety system used to prevent the wheel slipping and thus improve acceleration performance, stability and steerability on slippery roads through the engine torque and/or brake torque control. This paper presents a wheel slip control for TCS through the engine torque control. The proposed controller can track a reference input wheel slip in a predetermined time. The design strategy investigated is based on a moving sliding surface that only contains the error between the reference input wheel slip and the actual wheel slip. The used moving sliding mode was originally designed to ensure that the states remain on a sliding surface, thereby achieving robustness and eliminating chattering. The improved robustness in driving is important due to changes, such as from dry road to wet road or vice versa which always happen in working conditions. Simulations are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed moving sliding mode controller.

However these types of LSD is too complicated and expensive, so it is used only for 4WD outdoor vehicles, military vehicles, and a portion of deluxe car. So, many studies has been devoted to improve new types of LSD to cover those demerits of existing LSDs that the hydraulic LSD is developed as arepresentative result of that. The hydraulic LSD which uses the principle of gear pump is packed with viscous oil in tight container. When a slip occurs on one wheel, the hydraulic LSD generates torque caused by high oil pressure in the container. This study has been devoted to suggest an improved hydraulic LSD. In order to achieve it, we designed a new type of hydraulic LSD, produced it and did a rig test with it on real vehicle. From the rig test, it has been confirmed that the new type of hydraulic LSD can be directly applied to exiting vehicles without changing the design criteria

  • In this paper, we suggest the method for a service robot to move safely from an initial position to n goal position in the wide environment like a building. There is a problem using odometry encoder sensor to estimate the position of n mobile robot in the wide environment like a building. Because of the phenomenon of wheel's slipping, a encoder sensor has the accumulated error of n sensor measurement as time. Therefore the error must be compensated with using other sensor. A vision sensor is used to compensate the position of a mobile robot as using the regularly attached light's panel on a building's ceiling. The method to create global path planning for a mobile robot model a building's map as a graph data type. Consequently, we can apply floyd's shortest path algorithm to find the path planning. The effectiveness of the method is verified through simulations and experiments.

  • In this paper, color coordinate system transformation based visual servo controller has been considered. Mobile robot always has a position error and an orientation error resulted from wheel slipping etc.. Even more, the errors have accumulative properties. So feedback from environments is important. In this paper, by using color model faster land mark extraction can be achieved. And the global position and the orientation of mobile robot can be known by only two land marks positions in image coordinate system. Finally, the adoption of visual information in path tracking problem makes visual servo control.
