This study investigates the non-traditional manufacturing process of dry wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) in which liquid dielectric is replaced by a gaseous medium. Wire EDM experiments of thin workpieces were conducted both in wet and dry EDM conditions to examine the effects of spark cycle (T), spark on-time ($T_{on}$), thickness of work pieces, and work material on machining performance. The material removal rate (MRR) in the dry wire EDM case was much lower than that in the wet wire EDM case. In addition, the thickness of workpiece and work-material were found to be critical factors influencing the MRR for dry EDM process. The relative ratios of spark, arc and short circuit were also calculated and compared to examine the effectiveness of processes of dry and wet wire EDM.
The effects of dry-aging on changes in taste compounds and electronic taste sensing traits of pork were investigated. Ten pork belly and shoulder blade cuts were divided into wet-aging and dry-aging treatments and stored for 21 days at $2^{\circ}C$. The contents of nucleotides and free amino acids, and electronic tongue analysis were investigated at different aging periods (1, 7, 14, and 21 days). The contents of inosine and hypoxanthine of dry-aged pork cuts increased more rapidly, and they were significantly (p<0.05) higher than wet-aged pork cuts. Total free amino acids of dry-aged pork cuts were also significantly (p<0.05) higher than those of wet-aged pork cuts after 21 days of aging. Consequently, umami intensity of dry-aged pork cuts increased more rapidly and the values were significantly (p<0.05) higher than those of wet-aged pork during 21 days of aging. Results suggested that the better palatability of dry-aged pork cuts might be due to higher umami intensity in relation to higher contents of inosine, hypoxanthine, and free amino acids.

Estimations of dry and wet depositions in Korea and the size distributions of yellow sand above Korea have been carried out using the Eulerian aerosol model with the simulated meteorological data from the SNU mesoscale meteorological model. The estimated particle size distribution in Korea shows a bimodal distribution with peak values at 0.6 pm and 7 pm and a minimum at 2 pm in the lower layer However, as higher up, the bimodal distribution becomes an unimodal distribution with a peak value at 4∼5mm. Among the total amount of yellow sand deflated in the source regions , the dry and wet deposition fluxes were about 92%, and about 1.3∼0.5%, repectively, and the rest(5∼6%) is suspended in the air, Most of dust lifted in the air during the clear weather is deposited in the vicinity of the source regions by dry deposition and the rest undergoes the long -range transport with a gradual removal by the wet deposition processes. Over Korean peninsula, the total amount of yellow sand suspended in the air was about 6∼8% of the emissions in the source region and the dry and wet deposition fluxes were about 0.005∼0.7% and 0.003∼0.051% of the total emitted amount, repectively. It is estimated that 2.7∼8.9 mesa-tons of yellow sand is transported annually over the Korean peninsula with the annual mean dry deposition of 2.1∼490 kilo-tons and the annual mean wet deposition of 1.5∼65 kilo-tons.

The performance and design analysis for a NWD cooling tower using a combined wet and dry type fill are numerically investigated and compared with the experimental results. The Stoecker's method is applied to the wet section and LMTD or NTU-Effectiveness method to the wet and dry sections. The efficiency ratio of the NWD cooling tower to a wet type crossflow cooling tower is 59.34%. The predicted result shows a good agreement with the experimental data within 1.4% error. Plume abatement is far better with a NWD cooling tower than a counterflow cooling tower. It costs less than a conventional wet/dry tower because the finned exchanger is eliminated. This method also leaves out complexity in structure and Intricacy in operation.
In order to investigate the daily deposition characteristics of water-soluble inorganic components in airborne deposit on the Iksan, deposition samples were collected using a deposition gauge from October 16 to November 1, 2004. Deposition samples were collected using two different sampling gauges, a dry gauge and a wet gauge, respectively. To get wet the bottom of wet gauge during the sampling period, the volume of $30{\sim}50ml$ distilled ionized water was added in a wet gauge before the beginning of each deposition sampling. Deposition samples were collected twice a day and analyzed for inorganic water-soluble anions ($Cl^-,\;{NO_3}^-,\;{SO_4}^{2-}$) and cations (${NH_4}^+,\;Na^+,\;K^+,\;Mg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+}$) using ion chromatography. Qualify control and quality assurance of analytical data were checked by the data obtained from reinjection of standard solution, Dionex cross check standard solutions, and random several deposition samples, and measured data was estimated to be reliable. Considering the deposition sample volume, the sampling time, the surface area of sampling container, and the ion concentration measured, the daily deposition amounts for measured ions were calculated in $mg/m^2$. The total daily deposition amounts of all measured ions for dry and wet gauge were $7.5{\pm}2.8$ and $17.7{\pm}4.2mg/m^2$, respectively. A significant increase in deposition amount during rainfall days was observed for both wet gauge and dry gauge, having no difference of deposition amount between in wet gauge and in dry gauge. The mean deposition of all ions measured in this study were higher in wet gauge than in dry gauge because of the surface difference of the sampling container, especially for ${NH_4}^+\;and\;{SO_4}^{2-}$. The mean deposition amounts of ${NH_4}^+\;and\;{SO_4}^{2-}$ in wet gauge were found to be about 10 times and 3 times higher than those in dry gauge, while the rest of the chemical species were equal or a little higher in wet gauge than in dry gauge. Dominant species in dry gauge were ${NO_3}^-\;and\;Ca^{2+}$, accounting for 21% and 28% of the total ion deposition, whereas those in wet gauge were ${SO_4}^{2-}\;and\;{NH_4}^+$, accounting for 19% and 41% of the total ion deposition, respectively.

Wet/Dry phenomena typically incorporate a number of complex flow mechanism. These include a momentum transfer and turbulent mixing caused by the delivery of water. However currently available one dimensional schemes applicable to wet/dry process cannot effectively simulate such process. Two dimensional finite element model, SU/PG, is used to simulate complex flow in this study. The Wetted Area Method in SU/PG allows elements to transition gradually between wet and dry states. The model is applicable to a straight river reach with irregular bathymetry. Wet/dry calculation using the wetted area method can simulate simple numerical test. The computed results of velocity vectors and water depth agree with those of observed. The methodology Presented in this study will contributed to two-dimensional wet/dry analysis in a river in this country.
The present study conducted comparative evaluation of wet dry floor heating systems using geothermal heat pump. Circulation hot water from geothermal heat pump which is $10{\sim}15^{\circ}C$ lower than that from boiler was used. In order to access indoor temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) it took 74 minutes for dry type and 247 minutes for wet type. Average floor temperature was $23.89^{\circ}C$ for wet type and $32.66^{\circ}C$ for dry type. Energy saving rate gradually increased by 66% after 138 minutes. In the results, for floor heating system using low temperature circulation water, wet type was not enough to meet stable and comfortable radiant floor heating due to low floor temperature and access time to indoor set temperature. While dry type was practicable for stable floor heating due to fast rise of indoor set temperature and comfortable floor temperature.
The present study was conducted for a comparative evaluation of wet and dry floor heating systems using geothermal heat pump. We circulated hot water from geothermal heat pump which is $10{\sim}15^{\circ}C$ lower than that from boiler. In order to access indoor temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) it took 74 minutes for dry type and 247 minutes for wet type. Average floor temperature was $23.9^{\circ}C$ for wet type and $32.7^{\circ}C$ for dry type. Energy saving rate gradually increased by 66% after 138 minutes. As a result, in case of floor heating system using low temperature circulation water, dry type was more practicable for stable floor heating than wet type in terms of floor temperature and access time to indoor set temperature.
To evaluate the deposition amount on a ground surface, mesoscale numerical models coupled with atmospheric chemistry are widely used for larger horizontal domains ranging from a few to several hundreds of kilometers; however, these models are rarely applied to high-resolution simulations. In this study, the performance of a dry and wet deposition model is investigated to estimate the amount of deposition via computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models with high grid resolution. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations are implemented for a cone and a two-dimensional ridge to estimate the dry deposition rate, and a constant deposition velocity is used to obtain the dry deposition flux. The results show that the dry deposition rate of RANS generally corresponds to that observed in wind-tunnel experiments. For the wet deposition model, the transport equation of a new scalar concentration scavenged by rain droplets is developed and used instead of the scalar concentration scavenged by raindrops falling to the ground surface just below the scavenging point, which is normally used in mesoscale numerical models. A sensitivity analysis of the proposed wet deposition procedure is implemented. The result indicates the applicability of RANS for high-resolution grids considering the effect of terrains on the wet deposition.

Soil-cement mixtures involve problems in it's durability in grain size distribution and mineral composition of the used soils as well as in cement content, compaction energy, molding water content, and curing. As an attempt to solve the problems associated with durability of weathered granite soil with cement treated was investigated by conducting tests such as unconfined compression test, it's moisture, immers, wet-dry and freeze-thaw curing, mesurement of loss of weight with wet-dry and freeze-thaw by KS F criteria and CBR test with moisture curing on the five soil samples different in weathering and mineral composition. The experimental results are summarized as follows; The unconfined compressive strength was higher in moisture curing rather than in the immers and wet-dry, while it was lowest in freeze-thaw. Decreasing ratio of unconfined compressive strength in soil-cement mixtures were lowest in optimum moisture content or in the dry side rather than optimum moisture content with freeze-thaw. The highly significant ceofficient was obtained between the cement content and loss of weight with freeze-thaw and wet-dry. It was possible to obtain the durability of soil-cement mixtures, as the materials of base for roads, containing above 4 % of cement content, above 3Okg/cm$_2$ of unconfined compressive trength with seven days moisture curing or 12 cycle of freeze-thaw after it, above 100% of relative unconfined compressive strength, 80% of index of resistance, below 14% of loss of weight with 12 cycle of wet-dry and above 1. 80g/cm$_2$ of dry density.
