  • This study examined the differences of elderly workers' psychological well-being according to gender and explored the variables which account for their psychological well-being. Paid laborers aged 60 or older(eight-five men and nine-eight females) were interviewed. The psychological well-being of male workers was higher than that of the female workers. The control level of activity and family support were the variables that explained the psychological well-being of male paid workers. The higher the control level of activity was, and the more support given from family, the higher the psychological well-being scores they showed. Educational level, demand level of activity, and material reward determined the psychological well-being of female workers. The higher their educational level was, the lower the demand level of activity was, and the fewer rewards they received from paid work, the higher their psychological well-being was.

  • In general, the estimation of optimum yield for the radial collector well is determined by the empirical equation or numerical modeling, in which hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer is a main influence factor. Hydraulic conductivities of 164 soil samples collected from boreholes and horizontal wells (average length: about 50 m) installed during well construction in the Anseong stream were drawn in two-dimensional map by the Kriging method and utilized in this study. Hydraulic conductivity analyses by Representative Elementary Count (REC) indicated the average hydraulic conductivity is similar to that of the pumping test when the number of samples reaches about 1,000, which correspond to 1,000 ㎡. Pumping test was also conducted at 1 pumping well and 13 observation wells to estimate hydraulic conductivities at each observation well. REC analysis indicated that the average value of hydraulic conductivity calculated from at least four observation wells is valid as a representative value. The overall result suggested that multiple observation wells or multiple pumping-observation well systems that are located within the range of horizontal wells should be utilized to properly estimate the representative hydraulic conductivity values and the yield of a radial collector well.

  • Well production by a riverbank filtration facility with multi-radial collector well systems in Jeungsan-ri, Changnyeong gun, Korea was evaluated. In this study, the drawdown at collector wells due to pumping and groundwater inflow rates along the horizontal arms of the collector wells were computed through numerical simulations. Sensitivities of the well production to hydraulic conductivity and well flow coefficient, which represents the resistance to the flow from the aquifer to the horizontal arms, were analyzed. Simulation results showed that, with given proposed pumping rate conditions, the drawdown in the caisson exceeded maximum drawdown constraints in the study site and the adjustment of the pumping rate at each well is needed. The drawdown is affected by the hydraulic conductivity of the main aquifer and the well flow coefficient, which means the profound field investigation of the study site is needed to accurately estimate the efficiency of riverbank filtration through radial collector wells.

  • The aim of this study is to examine the pathways from attachment to children's psychological well-being in addition to the mediating role of children's ego-resilience and peer support. The participants, 297 fifth and sixth grade students from Seoul and other cities, completed questionnaires on attachment, ego-resilience, peer support and psychological well-being. Data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation coefficients, factor analysis, and path analysis. The findings are as follows. Attachment didn't appear to directly influence children's psychological well-being, but showed a number of indirect effects in two ways. First, attachment indirectly affected children's psychological well-being by ego-resilience as a simple form of mediation. Second, attachment influenced children's psychological well-being through children's ego-resilience and peer support as a dual mediation. Ego-resilience demonstrated the strongest effect on psychological well-being among all the factors examined. These results highlight the way in which children's personal internal resources play an important role in the pathways from attachment to their psychological well-being.

  • 43,000 shallow water wells have been installed as a part of all weather irrigation water supply project executed during 1969 to 1970 in all over Korea penninsula in order to solve water shortage problem of farming land by developing shallow ground water reserved in unconsolidated materials. But after 3 years later it was reported that 34% of the wells were abandoned by the reasons of artificial and natural defects. 48 wells distributed uniformly in the penninsula are selected to determine their well loss constants, relation between well loss and specific capacity, and tophographic classification of the well loss on the shallow water well. The results show that average well loss consatnt and the value of $CQ^2/S_w$ is ranged from $5.95{\times}10^{-5}\;to\;3.65{\times}10^{-8}Day^2M^{-5}$ and from 35.5% to maximum 68.48% respectvely and that relation between specific capacity and well loss constant can be approximately formulated as $C=0.61S_p2.246$ However this result indicates that most wells installed in this time have too high value of well loss constant $CQ^2/S_w$ in comparison with properly deseigned well. The most favorable and producable water bearing formation among unconsolidated deposits such as sand & gravel, boulderly gravel, clayey boulderly gravel, and sand formation in Korea is sand formation deposited in center of valley.
