The first purpose of this study was to examine a relationship between coping strategies and adaptation in mothers of handicapped children. The second purpose was to assess the relative contribution of coping strategies to maternal adaptation, controlling other variables that previously have been found to be important in determining maternal adaptation. Finally, the unique effect of coping strategies as predictors of maternal adaptation was examined. The subjects consisted of 92 mothers of handicapped children. They were asked to complete several self-report measures that were used to assess the variables of interest. The results indicated that coping was significantly related to maternal adaptation. Specifically, the use of confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, and escape-avoidance coping strategy were related to poorer maternal adaptation. On the other hand, painful problem solving and positive reappraisal strategy were related to better maternal adaptation. The step-wise regression results further indicated that coping strategies were significantly predict maternal adaptation. Specifical1y confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, and positive reappraisal coping strategy contributed significantly to the prediction of maternal adaptation compared to the other variables. Finally, the confrontive coping, accepting responsibility, positive reappraisal strategies turned out to contribute substantially to maternal adaptation even after several other variables were statistically controlled in conservative way. Implications of the findings for social work interventions was discussed.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of TSJ-JSM (Job Stress Management) program, which was developed for improving interpersonal relationship and mitigating job stress among social workers through convergence methods with biomedical and social scientific measurements. In order to achieve the purpose, utilizing quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group design was applied. Participants were recruited among social welfare residential facility workers with volunteer intention, and 21 participants divided into three groups randomly: experimental, comparison, and control groups consisted of 7 workers respectively. TSL-JSM program consisted of 12 sessions were implemented to experimental group, on the other hands, other employee assistant program with 12 stages was applied to comparison group. Data analysis for verification of TSL-JSM program was conducted with SPSS 25.0. Both social scientific and biomedical scientific measures show that TSL-JSM program has most strong effects on enhancing interpersonal relationship skills and allaying level of job stress by levels of increased HRV SDNN and decreased Corisol.

In this paper, we conducted a study to understand the impacts of safety behavior, safety and health delivery and communication, which should be managed for the establishments' safety and health control on occupational safety and health policy satisfaction to utilize that as a material for preparing policy support and preventive measures. For this purpose, we conducted a statistic analysis with 2,970 establishments, utilizing the material, "2015 Occupational Safety and Health Company Survey". As a result, in the manufacturing industry, it turned out in the establishments with more than 300 workers, safety behavior, safety and health delivery and communication of the cooperative firm of the prime contractor were high. In addition, it turned out that safety behaviors had the biggest impact on occupational safety and health policy satisfaction in the manufacturing industry and safety and health delivery and communication had the biggest impact on occupational safety and health policy satisfaction in the construction industry and other industries. As for the relationship between companies, it turned out that safety behaviors had the biggest impact on that between the parent company and a cooperative firm of a prime contractor while safety and health delivery and communication on that between the prime contractor and the subcontractor. Through the results of this study, it is necessary to build up safety and health behavior and safety and health delivery and communication systems for the characteristics of the company, and it is expected that the effect of the safety and health control will increase when policy support is made accordingly.
Background: In this study, we compared the incidents of humidifier disinfectants and incidents of mild hepatitis in Japan to highlight the differences in government response in the health care field in terms of "chain of responsibility". Methods: We examined whether the three mechanisms of action and the chain of responsibility hypothesis were applied to compare the cases of Korea and Japan. The incident of Japan occurred in 1987 in Misawa city, Aomori prefecture. In the 1990s, the safety of blood products increased dramatically. However, relief for infected victims was neglected. Green Cross did not notify the parties. In Korea, in the spring of 2011, a number of lung disease patients were accidentally admitted to a hospital in Seoul, and a female patient with respiratory failure symptoms expired. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted animal tests and the Ministry of Health and Welfare issued an order for forced collection of humidifier disinfectants. Results: In the case of Japan, the Ministry of Health and Welfare had to take responsibility for follow-up measures such as the investigation of the cause, so it was tied to a "chain of responsibility". However, in the case of Korea, the Ministry of Health and Welfare was free from the chain. Conclusion: Through the comparison between the cases of Japan and Korea, we confirmed that whether or not a government organization chooses to conceal responsibility depends on its past behavior, which is whether it is free from the chain of responsibility or not. Therefore, it was reaffirmed that an organization (ministry or department) free from the chain of responsibility must exist within the government.
This study tried to examine the effect of multicultural adolescents' bicultural acceptance attitude on their life satisfaction and the serial multiple mediating effect of social competence and self-esteem in the relationship between them. To this purpose, we analyzed adolescents data from the first year(2019) of the 'Multicultural Adolescent Panel Study'(2nd group). As a result of the study, first, bicultural acceptance attitude had a significant positive effect on life satisfaction. Second, social competence mediated the effect of bicultural acceptance attitude on life satisfaction. Third, self-esteem mediated the effect of bicultural acceptance attitude on life satisfaction. Fourth, social competence and self-esteem were successively multi-mediated bicultural acceptance attitude on life satisfaction. Based on the results of this study, the implications of the results of this study were discussed along with measures to support the healthy growth and development of multicultural adolescents.
Domestic violence in our society is where the abuser and the abuser live in the same space. Problems are left unresolved in families where abuse is reproducing. Domestic violence can be viewed as a crime that violates and tramples human rights. They rely solely on family support networks for solutions to domestic violence. The physical, emotional, and psychological pain and wounds that victims of domestic violence must endure are too deep. In order to help victims of domestic violence, case management services that can provide long-term and attentive help in the neighborhood or community are needed. For this, prevention and treatment of domestic violence should be considered together. And the interest and professional role of the community must follow.
Purpose: This study aims to investigate factors related to long-term length of stay (LOS) of patients with chronic diseases in Korean veterans hospitals. Methods: The subjects were 196 elderly patients with chronic disease staying in the hospital for more than 10 days, Data were collected by the survey of patients with structured questionnaires and medical records review by nurses from July 15 to August 10, 2019. Collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The present and desired LOS were 37.78±32.66 days and 60.87±45.95 days, respectively. Factors affecting hospital LOS were found to be main disease (genitourinary) (p<.001), assistance in activities of daily living (p<.001), area of hospital (p<.001), payment of medical fees (p=.026), hospital satisfaction (p=.036) and the explanatory power of these variables was 26.4%. The most common health problems that need to be solved after discharge were symptom alleviation and health promotion. These problems can be solved using community-based facility services or visiting medical-welfare services (especially home care nursing). Conclusion: In order to reduce hospital LOS, the following measures are required: personalized self-management education, provision of transportation services for dialysis therapy of inactive patients, linking patients with visiting medical-welfare services including home care nursing and mobile healthcare services, operation of the case management system including the notice of the discharge date at admission, interim check of patient status, and connecting the patient with community resources or transferring the patient to long-term care facilities at discharge.
This study attempted to examine the research trends of single-person households with disabilities using a systematic literature review research method. To this end, 2,161 papers published by September 30, 2023 were searched in a total of four databases: KCI, RISS, KISS, and e-Articl, combining related search terms such as single-person households with disabilities, single-person households and disabled person living alone. In five stages, irrelevant literature to single-person households with disabilities was excluded, and the final 13 documents were selected and analyzed. As a result of the study, first, research topics were classified into research topics for single-person households, analysis of the actual conditions and related factors, issues and support measures related to single-person households, and three case studies related to single-person households. Second, women, age, income, interpersonal skills, health, unemployment, and family support are lower in single-person households with disabilities. Accordingly, based on the research results, suggestions for follow-up studies and practical and policy implications for social welfare were presented.
It is not easy to regulate the amount of radiation used for the medical purpose as there usually is more good than harm to the patient's health and life caused by the medical exposure to the radiation. However, the rapid increase of the use of diagnostic radiation involves a high possibility of increasing the radiation hazard exposure. Therefore, it is imperative to implement effective regulations in order to secure the safety of diagnostic radiation. The one and only rule we currently have for the diagnostic radiation is "Medicine Act" with only one clause dedicated to regulate the safety management that does not include any rules for the medical radiation. A set of inclusive rules for the whole medical radiation inclusive of diagnostic radiation and therapeutic radiation need to be based on the "Medicine Act" rather than "Nuclear Safety Act" in order to protect the medical professionals, patients and the guardians of patients from the hazards of diagnostic and/or therapeutic radiation that was not used the purpose of medical treatment. If there is an administrative measure to be imposed to secure the safety of diagnostic radiation, it is considered as exertion of governmental authority of administrative agency. There must be clear and realistic legal guidelines for in-fringe on people's interests. The administrative measures for the safety management of the diagnostic radiation must be clearly and specifically based on the law and the detailed standards for the administrative measures must be dele-gated by the presidential decree or departmental ordinance. Accordingly, the restrictions imposed by the administrative measures to the "Safety Inspection Institute of Radiation along with Radiation Exposure Measuring Institutes" should have clear legal basis as well and the detailed standards for the administrative measures should be regulated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare decree instead of the notification by the Director of Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While securing the safety of radiation on one side, careful review and up-grade on our legal system for the safety management of the diagnostic radiation is required on the other side to guarantee the legality, interest balance and reliability of the administrative measures.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of health promotion programmes using traditional Korean medicine among public health centre staff in charge of running such programmes. To do so, we examined and analysed the current situation of implementing the programmes in the public health centre. Methods : A survey was designed to collect information on perception of the health promotion programmes using traditional Korean medicine by public health centre staff in charge of running such programmes. The survey, using a structured questionnaire designed for this study, was conducted on 161 public health centre staff attending an annual meeting to presenting the results of activity evaluation related to public health programmes using traditional Korean medicine in public health centres. The participants were asked about the most successful programme, the benefits of the programmes, the positive aspects of the programmes, the most desirable outcomes of the programmes and so on. The data were analysed using SPSS system 12.0 for Windows. Results : Of the 161 questionnaires, 121 were analysed. The main findings of this research were as follows. Of the health promotion programmes using traditional Korean medicine implemented in public health centres, qigong and stroke preventive health promotion programmes were perceived as the most successful. The major benefits of the programmes were having merit for health promotion and expecting a positive performance outcome. The major positive aspects of the programmes for health promotion were cultivating community citizen's support and showing consistency between the philosophy of the programmes and the direction of existing health promotion programmes. The most desirable outcomes of the programmes were spreading community understanding of the programme and establishing an effective and unique health promotion model for implementing the programme. Two major causes of implementation difficulties were lack of material resources such as manpower, facility, and equipment, and methods of performance evaluation. One of the most urgent needs for activating the implementation of programmes was continuing financial and technical support from the central government. Conclusions : To promote the role of traditional Korean medicine in the public health sector in order to integrate traditional medicine into the public health system, government should develop some measures for solving the identified causes of implementation difficulties and coping with the most urgent needs for activating the implementation of programmes.
