  • We developed friction welded bimetallic sleeve for 220kV aluminum conductor XLPE cable. Not only friction welded bimetallic sleeve for Termination(EB-A, EB-G) but also friction welded sleeve for Joint of Al to Cu conductor was developed regardless of this project. Generally, friction welded sleeve used to connect Al conductor cable to Cu conductor cable and used for improvement of mechanical property of terminal by offer the copper side of friction welded bimetallic sleeve at the Termination. Connection method for Al-Cu conductor has mainly used friction welding at the solid state, because it is difficult to connect by using conventional welding method. this investigation introduces development of friction welded bimetallic sleeve by friction welding and test result of 220kV Al conductor XLPE cable and accessories using friction welded sleeve.

  • In this study, the purpose finds out the best welding conditions for bonding of electric wire by ultrasonic welding. The material was plastic-insulating low-voltage-cabels for automobiles. The experiment varied the values of welding time and welding pressure and fixed the values of amplitude and energy. With the facts, the best condition for ultrasonic welding to achieve bonding exactly is gained according to the size of the cross-sectional area of the cable, and the adhesive intensity is greatly influenced by the variables of welding time and welding pressure. Also when the welding time and welding time and welding pressure increase as the cross-sectional areas of the cable increase the welding result in gained exactly.

  • In this study, modeling of the CD stud welding system was conducted considering mechanical and electrical components. The electrical components such as arc resistance, cable resistance, capacitance, internal resistance and cable inductance were found to affect the output waveform significantly. The calculated results showed food agreements with the experiment results within 20% error. The main defect of CD stud welding with 1010 steel stud and SS400 steel plate was the void trapped between stud and base metal. The effect of the spring force and stud tip size on void formation was investigated.

  • Damage detection methods which utilize the change in dynamic characteristics are very hard to apply to large civil structures since local damage hardly affects global dynamic characteristics. But, if there is a very important and critical member and we focus only on the local behavior of it, it would be possible to detect damage from the change in local dynamic characteristics, such as natural frequencies and mode shapes .In this study, the cable anchorage part of a cable-stayed bridge under construction is modeled and analyzed by commercial finite element program, ABAQUS. It has both welding and bolting connections with a cable and a stiffening plate, and has a possible high stress concentration portions in it. Several damage scenarios such as crack through the welding or crack through the bolting connection are examined. The result shows that the local natural frequencies of the damaged member decrease up to 16% compared with that of the undamaged member. It is concluded that there is quite a high feasibility that the damage of the cable anchorage can be detected by measuring local dynamic characteristics.

  • A new type of swivel unit is suggested in order to complement weak points of the existing. This new type of Swivel unit is developed by adopting a spring type cable which has elasticity and restoring force. To minimize the troubles in the process of manufacturing during operating the new type system, strength analysis and the check of interference between parts are accomplished with CATIA. The check of rotating performance is also carried out to determine the diameter and length of spring type cable by SimDesigner motion analysis. Swivel unit used in the robot spot welding is developed with spring type cable and its usefulness in the industrial field is verified through experiments. This system has been registered for patent.

  • Recently, there has been a trend in the manufacturing process to focus on the durability of cable lug joint, especially in welding process due to the poor cable lug joint causes many troubles on products and workers during manufacturing process. Therefore development of high quality cable lug joint is important for successful manufacturing process and safety of worker. The Magnetic Pulse Forming(MPF) is one of efficient way to developed a high quality cable lug joint. In MPF, a high strain rate forming process, utilizes a high velocity oblique collision on the workpiece to be formed in required shape. The objective of this paper is to develop of high quality cable lug joint using electromagnetic force. To successfully accomplish this goal, section and electrical contact temperature of developed cable lug joint has been compared with various cable lug joint. Electrical contact temperature of developed cable lug joint by electromagnetic force is lower than manufactured cable lug joint by pressurer and hydraulic pressurer.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a mathematical model of welding current for the P-GMAW by modifying the well known GMAW model. Welding power circuit is simply modeled as a RL electric circuit and solved as an ODE equation. The welding current depends on the joint shape, molten pool and welding parameters. To compare the molten pool effect to the welding current, CFD numerical simulation technique was adopted. Welding experiment is also conducted with the same welding parameters as used in numerical simulations to verify the proposed welding current model. The current model which is considered molten pool shape, is more fit to experiment result.

  • The conduit fer superconducting cable is welded and plastically deformed during the jacketing process to make the CICC (Cable-in-Conduit-Conductors) fer a fusion magnet. The jacketing process of KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) conductors is composed of several sequential steps such as rounding, welding, sizing, and square-rolling. Since the welded zone in Incoloy 908 conduit is brittle and easy to have flaws, there may be a possibility of stress corrosion cracking during the heat treatment of coil when both the induced tensile residual stress and the concentration of oxygen in the furnace are sufficiently high. The steps of the jacketing process were simulated using the finite element method of the commercial ABAQUS code, and the stress distribution in the conduit in each step was calculated, respectively. Furthermore, the variations of residual welding stresses through the steps of the jacketing process were calculated and analyzed to anticipate the possibility of the stress corrosion cracking in the conduit. The concentrated high tensile residual welding stresses along the welding bead decrease by the plastic deformation of the following sizing step. The distribution in residual stresses in the conductor for magnet coil is mainly governed by the last step of square-rolling.

  • The cable connection zone of the cable-stayed bridge transfers deal-load, live-load, and second-load to the cables on the structural joint zone of the cables and the main girders are the most critical parts in which big cable tensile forces are generated by those loads. Therefore, it is necessary to thoroughly check the main girder, structurally to secure the required stability. Because of the heavy tensile force of cables linked in the connection zone of the cable-stayed bridge, locally concentrated stress, as well as the dispersion of stress, occurs in the structurally contacted point of cable and main girder thus, we need to make a thorough investigation through a detailed structural analysis. Directly delivering the tensile force to the connection zone of the cable, the consequently big effect in the tensile force fluctuation caused by the live-load will make it necessary to review the fatigue strength. As the connection zone of the cable is designed to resist the tensile force of the cable, which is applied to a connecting section as a concentrated force, thick plates are used. These plates are frequently made of welded structure, thus, the investigation of the welding workability is inevitable.
