If we know the location of the hull block and the welding feeder in the shipyard, we can easily obtain the location information of the worker. That data is very useful for implementing a workplace safety monitoring system. However, it is difficult to apply a fixed communication network to the workplace due to the specificity of the hull structure and welding process. In this study, inductive power line communication, which can replace dedicated communication line, was reviewed. A ferrite core was used as an inductive coupler to be installed on the power cable of the welding machine, and a nano-crystalline core was applied as a coupler to be fastened to the support rod of the metal block. In order to visualize the operating principle of the proposed couplers, 3D modeling and finite element analysis were performed with the COMSOL AC/DC module. In the communication performance test using an aluminum profile, when the communication channel was formed by the contact of the welding electrode, the bandwidth was kept above 6 Mbps.
Stainless steel sheets are widely used as the structure material for the railroad cars and the commercial vehicles. These kinds structures used stainless steel sheets are commonly fabricated by using the gas welding. For fatigue design of gas welded joints such as fillet and plug and ring type joint, it is important to obtain optimum design parameter information on gas welded joints. In this paper, analysis approach for fatigue test using experimental design are evaluated optimum factor in gas welded joint type and geometrical parameters of materials. Using these results, that factors applied to fundamental information for fatigue design.

A method of designing a manufacturing shape of ship plate parts considering welding deformation is introduced. In this paper, the design shape of a bracket is deformed not by a thermoelastic method but by a pure geometric method. Deformation quantities are estimated based on data captured in the field and then a manufacturing design shape is obtained by deforming an original design shape by a geometric deformation method. The proposed method has been implemented and tested in the shipyard.
This paper presents application of neutron diffraction technique to the measurement of residual stresses in the T-type 20 m thick welded stainless steel plates(100$\times$50 $mm^2$ and 50$\times$50 $mm^2$). The High Resolution Powder Diffractormeter of the Korea Atomic Research Institute was utilized in the measurement. The power of nuclear reactor was 24 MWt and the measured reflection in the 220 plane (2$\theta$)was $92.66^{\circ}$. Poisson ratio of 0.265 and elastic constant of 211 GPa were applied to the calculation of stresses and strains. Three directional components such as normal, transverse, and longitudinal stresses were measured. The results showed that three components were tensile and became compressive along the y axis in the zone away from the welded center. The compressive stresses became tensile in the zone away from the center line of x axis. This may be due to the balance effect caused by the net stress to keep the specimen shape flat.

In this paper, we propose a method to implement an IoT-based sensor network for each workplace of a shipyard. Here, at the most common welding workplace in shipyards, the shipbuilding blocks are used as a communication medium to transmit information such as the worker's location, welding progress, and working hour to a server using LoRa and powerline communication. To achieve the data communication, inductive couplers and hybrid modems have been manufactured and installed on wire feeders and pin jigs to establish a sensor network. As a result of field test, the proposed system shows a success rate of data transmission and a rate of successful recognition of worker's location of about 98% or more. In addition, the process management system platform can record and display the work process data generated at the field in real time. The proposed system can be a starting point for enhancing the competitiveness of Korean shipbuilding industry through the establishment of a smart shipyard.

In this study, electrode bonding technology needed for high density of rechargeable battery is studied, which is recently researched for electric vehicle, the small leisure vessel. For the alternative overcoming the limit of stacking amount able to be stacked by conventional ultrasonic welding, the low temperature bonding method, eligible for minimum of degeneration of chemical activator on the electrode surface which is generated by thermal effect as well as the increase of conductivity and tension strength caused by electrode bonding using filler metal, not using conventional direct heating on the electrode material method, is studied. Specifically to say, recently used more generally the ultrasonic welding and spot welding method are not usable for satisfying stable electric conductivity and bonding strength when much electrode is stacking bonded. If the electrical power is unreasonably increased for the welding, due to the effect of welding temperature, deformation of electrode and activating material degeneration are caused, and after the last packaging, decline of electrical output and generating heat cause to reduce stability of battery. Therefore, in this study, induction heating system bonding method using high frequency heating and differentiated electrode method using filler metal pre-treatment of hot dipping are introduced.

In order to replace the sampling tensile test of products produced in the tab welding process, which is one of the automotive battery manufacturing processes, vision inspectors are currently being developed and used. However, the vision inspection has the problem of inspection position error and the cost of improving it. In order to solve these problems, there are recent cases of applying deep learning technology. As one such case, this paper tries to examine the usefulness of applying Faster R-CNN, one of the deep learning technologies, to existing product inspection. The images acquired through the existing vision inspection machine are used as training data and trained using the Faster R-CNN ResNet101 V1 1024x1024 model. The results of the conventional vision test and Faster R-CNN test are compared and analyzed based on the test standards of 0% non-detection and 10% over-detection. The non-detection rate is 34.5% in the conventional vision test and 0% in the Faster R-CNN test. The over-detection rate is 100% in the conventional vision test and 6.9% in Faster R-CNN. From these results, it is confirmed that deep learning technology is very useful for detecting welding error of lead tabs in automobile batteries.
Stainless steel sheets are widely used as the structure material for the railroad cars and the commercial vehicles. These kinds structures used stainless steel sheets are commonly fabricated by using the gas welding. Gas welding is very important and useful technology in fabrication of an railroad car and vehicles structure. However fatigue strength of the gas welded joints is considerably lower than parent metal due to stress concentration at the weldment, fatigue strength evaluation of gas welded joints are very important to evaluate the reliability and durability of railroad cars and to establish a criterion of long life fatigue design. In this paper, ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curve were obtained by fatigue tests. Using these results, the accelerated life test (ALT) is conducted. From the experimental results, an acceleration model is derived and acceleration factors are estimated. So it is intended to obtain the useful information for the fatigue lifetime of plug and ring gas welded joints and data analysis by statistic reliability method, to save time and cost, and to develop optimum accelerated life prediction plans.
Both creep deformation and creep crack growth experiments have been conducted on 2.25Cr-1Mo steel weldment in order to provided an information on residual life prediction of structural component weldment containing a crack. The stress exponent of creep deformation equation for the base metal and weldment at 823k were found to be 10.2 and 7.3, respectively. These two values could be assumed that dislocation climb processes are controlling the creep deformation of both materials. The creep rate of the weldment was very low, compared with that of base metal under the same applied stress. Whereas the creep crack growth rate of the weldment was almost twice higher than that of base metal under the fixed value of $C^*$. This may indicate that the weldment is stronger than the base metal in view of creep deformation and is brittle during creep crack growth due to the intrinsic microstructure of banite and relatively higher and Mn contents.
