The fatigue crack propagation behavior in SA106 Gr.C main steam pipe weld joint was investigated in air environment. Crack growth rate tests were conducted on base metal and weld metal at load ratio of 0.1 and 0.3 and at frequency of 10Hz. The fatigue crack growth rates of the base metal and the weld metal were above the ASME reference line and the fatigue crack propagation rate of the weld metal was higher than those of the base metal. Fatigue crack growth rate increased with increasing the load ratio and the effect of the load ratio was more significant in the weld metal. The post weld heat treatment increased the fatigue crack growth rates of the base metal by reducing compressive residual stress and decreased those of the weld metal by reducing weld defects.
This paper was conducted the fatigue crack growth test on the base metal and weld joint of bimaterial(carbon-stainless steel), carbon steel and stainless steel. As the result, the fatigue crack growth rate of weld joint on the stainless-stainless steel is faster than stainless base metal, and weld joint on the carbon-carbon steel heat affected zone is slower than carbon base metal. And fatigue crack growth rate of carbon-stainless steel weld joint and heat affected zone is similar to the behavior of stainless base metal. In conclusion, weld joint of bimaterial is stable in the fatigue crack growth behavior.
The effects of PWHT (poste weld heat treatment) and stress simulating the residual stress during PWHT in weld HAZ of low and high strength steels on corrosion fatigue crack growth were evaluated. The obtained results are summarized as follows. 1. Fatigue crack growth rate of HAZ in air and 3.5% NaCl solution was slower than that of parent due to the signgularity in weld HAZ. 2. In the case of HT-80, 3.5% NaCl solutio nacts to accelerate the crack growth for all specimens, and the sensitivity of as-weld to corrosion environment was the greatest among other PWHT specimens. 3. Corrosion fatigue crack growth of parent, as-weld and PWHT speciments ofr SS41 as well as SM53B was retarded in comparison with the fatigue crack growth in air. 4. There was a tendency that crack growth of PWHT specimens subjected $10kg/mm^2$ was faster than that of PWHT specimens without stress during PWHT. 5. The retardation phenomenon of crack growth in corrosion environment is attributed to the crack branching decreased .DELTA.K due to the corrosion products and multi-cracks.

The fatigue crack growth behavior of high strength X80 pipeline steel was investigated with compact tension specimens that crack growth directions were aligned either parallel or normal to the rolling direction of the pipeline. Also, the fatigue crack growth rates for welded joint of X80 pipeline steel were investigated with compact tension specimens that crack growth directions were aligned either parallel or normal to the welding line. The experimental results indicated the fatigue crack growth behavior was markedly different in three zones, weld metal, heat affected zone and base metal of welded joints. There was a trend toward increment in the fatigue life of weld metal and heat affected zone as compared with the X80 pipeline steel.
This study investigates the fatigue lives of SM490A material(base metal) specimens and fillet weld specimens, which are made same material and weld method for the railway vehicle. These fatigue lives have a difference, the fatigue lives of weld specimen are shorter than those of base metal. We measured the strains on the weld positions of the specimens during the fatigue test for investigation of crack initiation and crack growth. In these result, we could find the information of the crack initiation position on weld bead and the history of crack growth. Also we knew that the fatigue crack initiation cycles and the changes of the strain which were affected the fractured surface roughness and morphology.
In this study, we investigated fatigue crack growth behavior of laser welded sheet metal due to a single overload. Fatigue specimens were made using butt joint of cold rolled sheet metal that was welded by $CO_2$ laser. The fatigue crack propagation tests were performed in such a way that fatigue loading was parallel to the weld line while crack propagation was perpendicular to the weld line. Single overload was applied when fatigue crack tip was arrived near the weld line. The distances between the crack tip and the weld line at which a single overload was applied were 6, 4 and 2mm. The effect of specimen thickness and overload ratio on the fatigue behavior was determined. The plastic zone size of crack tip due to the single overload was determined from the finite element analysis. For investigating fatigue crack growth behavior, we used different thickness specimen 0.9mm and 2.0mm, and variable overload ratio applied fatigue crack propagation test. Also we used finite element analysis for investigating the plastic zone size of crack tip when single overload applied
In this paper, crack propagation analyses in the inner diameter (ID) repair weld of the dissimilar metal weldment of a nozzle were performed using a finite element alternating method (FEAM). To calculate the theoretical solution for the crack tip stress intensity factor, a weak type singular integral equation consisted of crack surface traction and dislocation density function was constructed and solved in conjunction with the FEAM. A two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element nozzle model was prepared and ID repair welding was simulated. An initial crack, 10% depth of weld thickness, was assumed and crack propagation trajectory from the initial crack to the 75% depth of thickness was calculated using the FEAM. Crack growth versus time curve was also calculated and compared with the curves obtained from ASME code method. With the method constructed in this paper, crack propagation trajectory and crack growth time were calculated automatically and effectively.
During PWHT, it is well known that residual stress in weld HAZ is one of the reasons for PWHT embitterment. In case of static loading, it was experimentally found that fracture toughness of weld HAZ was dependant upon PWHT conditions. However, the effects of PWHT on fatigue behavior are not clearly verified. Therefore, in this paper, the effects of heating rate PWHT conditions and residual stress simulated in weld HAZ of Cr-Mo steel on fatigue crack propagation behavior were evaluated by fatigue Testing and SEM observation. The obtained results are summarized as follows; 1. Applied stress($10 Kgf/mm^2$) in weld HAZ during PWHT tneded to decrease fatigue strength and to increase fatigue crack growth rate. 2. Applied stress and slow heating rate of 60.deg. C/hr during PWHT contributed to precipitin of impurity elements as well as carbide, which promoted the fatigue crack growth. 3. Fatigue crack growth rate decreased at the heating rate of 220.deg. C/hr in contrast with 600.deg. C/hr and 60.deg. C/hr.

We investigated fatigue crack growth behavior in laser-welded sheet metal caused by a single applied overload The fatigue specimens were made using butt jointed cold rolled sheet metal that was welded with a $CO_2$ laser, The effects of the specimen thickness and overload ratio were determined from fatigue crack propagation tests, These tests were performed in such a way that the fatigue loading was aligned parallel to the weld line while the crack propagated perpendicular to the weld line, Overload ratios of 1.0, 1.5, and 2. 0 were applied near the tip of the fatigue crack at points located 6, 4, and 2 mm from the weld line. The specimens were either 0.9 or 2.0 mm thick. The size of the plastic zone at the crack tip due to the single applied overload was also determined using finite element analysis.
In this study the fatigue crack growth behavior was investigated for the surface cracks in aluminum alloy A5083-O plate and its weldment. Several kinds of specimens were tested at room temperature. The Eccentric specimens(E1.0, E2.5) subjected to combined stresses(tension+bending) were tested and the welded specimens with weld toes(TOE1, TOE2) were tested in order to verify the method to consider the stress concentration such as weld toe. It was ascertained that the surface crack growth property in the weld toe could be predicted by the corrected Pang's equation proposed in this study.
