Inspection System of Welding Bead and Chamfer by means of Laser Vision

  • An Inspection system, composed of sensor head and controller, is presented which is a 3-D laser vision system using principles of optical triangulation for weld quality and chamfer quality. The sensor head id composed of laser diode, micro CCD camera, filter and several optical components. This systems can be used in welding bead and undercut inspection and chamfer quality inspection as well. It is mech more convenient to use and the inspection time is to be greatly shortened compared with conventional inspection method. Furthermore, data saved in controller can be used for statistics afterwards. This system has been begin used in Koje Shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries and the need is being increased.

  • 저항 스폿 용접은 자동 용접라인 등에서 널리 사용된다. 최근에는, 대량으로 생산하는 산업현장에서 좀 더 정교한 품질 제어가 필요하게 되었고 마이크로프로세서를 채용한 제어의 다양한 적용으로 높은 생산성과 더 나은 용접품질을 얻을 수 있게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 인버터 타입 파우어 소스와 용접 서보건을 개발하였다. 그 결과, 기존의 공압건에 비해 몇 가지 장점을 갖게 되었는데 그 중의 하나는 용접공정 중에 정밀한 가압력 제어가 가능하게 되었다. 또한, 작업시간도 줄고 경비도 절감되는 부가 효과를 얻을 수 있다고 판단된다.

신경회로망을 이용한 용접잔류응력 예측에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Prediction of Welded Residual Stresses using Neural Network)

  • In order to achieve effective prediction of residual stresses, the series experiment were carried out and the residual stresses were measured using the backgpropagation algorithm from the neural network and the sectional method. Using the experimental results, the optimal control algorithms using a neural network should be developed in order to reduce the effect of the external disturbances on residual stresses during GMA welding processes. The results obtained from the comparison between the measured and calculated results, showed that the neural network based on backpropagation algorithm can be sued in order to control weld quality. This system can not only help to understand the interaction between the process parameters and residual stress, but also, improve the quantity control for welded structures. The development of the system is goal in this study.

  • The robotic $CO_2$ welding is a manufacturing process to produce high quality joints for metal and it could provide a capability of full automation to enhance productivity. Despite the widespread use in the various manufacturing industries, the full automation of the robotic $CO_2$ welding has not yet been achieved partly because the mathematical model for the process parameters of a given welding task is not fully understood and quantified. Several mathematical models to control welding quality, productivity, microstructure and weld properties in arc welding processes have been studied. However, it is not an easy task to apply them to the various practical situations because the relationship between the process parameters and the bead geometry is non-linear and also they are usually dependent on the specific experimental results. Practically, it is difficult, but important to know how to establish a mathematical model that can predict the result of the actual welding process and how to select the optimum welding condition under a certain constraint. In this research, an attempt has been made to develop an intelligent algorithm to predict the weld geometry (top-bead width, top-bead height, back-bead width and back-bead height) as a function of key process parameters in the robotic $CO_2$welding. To achieve this above objective, Taguchi method was employed using five different process parameters (tip gap, gas flow rate, welding speed, arc current, welding voltage) as a guide for optimization of process parameters.

  • The automatic welding systems, have received much attention in recent years, because they are highly suitable not only to increase the quality and productivity, but also to decrease manufacturing time and cost for a given product. Automatic welding work in semiconductor or space industry to be carried out in pipe line and butt joint mostly and plasma arc welding(PAW) is actively applied. To get the desired quality welds in automated welding system is challenging, a mathematical model is needed that has complete control over the relevant process parameters in order to obtain the required mechanical properties. However, In various industries the welding process mathematical model is not fully formulated for the process parameter and on the welding conditions, therefore only partial variables can be predicted. Therefore, this paper investigates the interaction between the welding parameters and mechanical properties for predicting the weld bead geometry by analyzing the S/N ratio.

용접선 추적시스템을 적용한 탄뎀 원주 용접시스템 개발 (Development on Tandem GMA Welding System using Seam Tracking System in Pipe Line)

  • In this study to improve the productivity, advantage Tandem circumferential weld process of seam tracking system was applied for the laser vision sensor. Weld geometry scanning laser vision sensor and PLC control unit are used to scan correct positioning of welding torch when the program is implemented so that it can correctly track the welding line. The welding experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of laser vision seam tracking sensor in tandem welding process. The seam tracking several experiments was to determine the reliability of the system, welding experiments relatively good quality welding bead was confirmed. Furthermore, the PLC program for seam tracking was used to confirm the validity of the application of tandem welding process according to the benefits of increased productivity, which is expected to contribute to national competitiveness.

  • 선박 건조 시 발생하는 용접변형은 블록의 정도를 떨어뜨리고 교정작업으로 인한 생산성 저하의 요인이 되고 있다. 따라서 설계 단계에서 변형을 최소화 할 수 있는 작업기준을 마련한다면 생산성 증대는 물론 품질의 향상을 가져올 수 있을 것이다. 여기에는 먼저 블록의 조립과정에 따른 변형을 예측할 수 있는 정확하고 효율적인 방법이 마련되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 고유변형도 이론과 유한요소 해석을 결합한 효율적인 변형예측 기법을 제안하였다. 고유변형도는 간이 열탄소성 해석 결과 최고온도 분포와 구속도에 의해 결정된다. 따라서 용접 열전도 해석과 구조물의 조립과정에 따른 구속도 계산을 수행하여 실제 구조물에 발생하는 고유변형도를 정확히 구하고자 하였다. 이를 이용하여 보강판의 변형 예측을 구현하였고 간단한 선체 블록에 적용할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

J-적분을 이용한 후판 부분용입 다층용접재의 파괴 해석 (Fracture Analysis of Thick Plate for Partial Penetration Multi-pass Weldment Using J-integral)

  • Partial penetration welding joint is defined as groove welds welded from one side, without steel backing or groove welds welded from both sides but without back gouging. So it has an unwelded portion at the root of the weld. Study of partial penetration weldment fracture behavior includes residual stress analysis and fracture analysis. The J-integral loses its path independency in residual stress field. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a new J-integral, J, which is defined including the effect of plastic deformation and thermal strain. In this study, theoretical formulation and program were developed for the evaluation of J-integral for the crack tip located in the weldment. Evaluations of fracture behavior were performed for partial penetration multi-pass weldment of 25.4mm thick plate by J-integral. From a point of fracture in partial penetration multi-pass welding, it seemed to be better to control root face smaller than 6.35mm.

LNG 탱크의 주름진 내벽박판용 자동용접시스템의 개발에 관한 연구 (A study on development of automatic welding system for corrugated membranes of the LNG tank)

  • Development of an automatic TIG welding system incorporating a vision sensor and torch control mechanism leads to an improved welding quality and greater production efficiency. The automatic welding system should be greatly restricted in its size and weight for the LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) storage tank and also provide a unique torch rotating mechanism which keeps the torch tip in the constant position while the angle is changed continuously to maintain the welding torch substantially perpendicular to the weld line. The developed system is driven by two translation axes X, Z and one rotational axis. A moving line window method is adopted to the image recognition of the corrugated membranes with specular reflection. This method decides original laser stripe patterns in image which is affected by multi-reflection. A self-teaching algorithm, which guides the automatic welding machine with the information provided by the CCD camera without any previous learning of a reference trajectory, was developed for tracking the corrugated membrane of the LNG tank along the weld line.

후판의 부분용입 다층용접에 대한 잔류음력 및 변형해석 (Residual Stress and Displacement Analysis of Thick Plate for Partial Penetration Multi-Pass Weldment)

In this study we analysed fur residual stress and displacement distribution on partial penetration welding condition of thick plate metal. For 25.4mm thick plate, theoretical residual stress and displacement analysis by finite element method using ABAQUS was carried out and compared with the experimental result using hole-drilling method. In results of the condition of partial penetration, it appeared that longitudinal stress at welding area was a little difference and transverse stress did not have any effect by partial penetration multi-pass welding. From a point of welding distortion in partial penetration multi-pass welding, it seemed to be better to control root face smaller than 6.35mm.
