Summary measures of population health (SMPHs) have been used to estimate the burden of diseases. Among various type of SMPHs, disability adjusted life year (DALY) and healthy life expectancy (HALE) have been calculated in the global and national burden of disease studies. In order to calculate DALY and HALE, disability weight is an essential element. Disability weights quantify the level of disability for health states or diseases and have values between 0 (full health) to 1 (being dead). In this study, we reviewed the main disability weights studies and determined their meaning and limitations. Furthermore, we provided the whole process of typical disability weight study and reviewed key issues as follows: health state or disease description development, panel composition, valuation method, validation of disability weight, cross-cultural variability in health state or disease, and so on. The results from this study will be helpful to conduct future disability weight studies for adapting disability weights and developing new methodologies.
Background: Sitting posture may be related to risk factors, including inadequate weight-bearing support, particularly when maintained for long periods. Considering that body weight is loaded in a closed support system composed of the seat, backrest, floor and working surface, the aims of the present study were to describe the development of an ergonomic sitting workstation to continuously record weight-bearing at the seat, chair, backrest, work surface, and floor and to test its measurement properties: reproducibility, criterion-related validity, and sensitivity. Methods: Rigid bodies (1 to 30 kg) and participant weights were recorded to evaluate the workstation measurement properties. Results: Rigid body tests showed variation values less than 0.050 kg on reproducibility test and errors below 5% of measured value on criterion validity tests. Participant tests showed no statistically significant differences between repeated measures ($p{\geq}0.40$), errors were less than 2% of participant weights an sensitivity presented statistically significant changes (p = 0.007). Conclusion: The sitting workstation proposed showed to be reliable, valid and sensitive for use in future ergonomic studies to evaluate the sitting posture.

In this paper, we propose a fuzzy method to control bit-rate in the DCT Domain. The method consists of a bit-rate allocation with fuzzy measures and a least-distortion bit-rate reduction. Fuzzy measures are calculated by the code length, the discontinuity ambiguity, and the neighborhood momentum in each DCT block. These measures are summed with weights and form a reduction fuzziness to indicate the degree of preferable reduction. Using the reduction fuzziness. each DCT block is filtered by the least-distortion reduction method to adjust the bit-rate for the target bandwidth. In the experiment, we show the results that the transcoded video quality by the method is better and the bandwidth is more regular than those of existing methods in both visually and quantitatively.

This paper considers a single machine nonpreemptive scheduling problem with a given common due date. In the problem, the optimal job sequence is sought to minimize the sum of earliness/tardiness and flow time measures in the situation where all jobs are available at time zero, and weights per unit length of earliness/tardiness and flow time are V and W, respectively. Some dominant solution properties are characterized to deriva both an optimal starting time for an arbitrary sequence and sequence improvement rules. The optimal schedule is found to the case W .geq. V/. By the way, it is difficult to find the optimal schedule for the case W < V. Therefore, the derived properties are put on together to construct a heuristic solution algorithm for the case W < V, and its effectiveness is rated at the mean relative error of about 3% on randomly generated numerical problems.

The object of this study is the development of a measuring framework for supply chain flexibility. Prior to treat supply chain flexibility, time flexibility, quantity flexibility, and cash-flow flexibility for each company are newly suggested. Especially, all developed measures can deal with the monetary point of view through various cost functions. Then weights of time flexibility, quantity flexibility, cash-flow flexibility are determined to find the effect of the level of flexibility in the supply chain. This is based on the relationship between the ratio of profit to revenue and value of three developed flexibility measures. To find the level of weight for each flexibility measure, neural network theory is used. Then the forecasting of the ratio of profit to revenue for all companies in the next period can be available. Therefore, all companies in the supply chain can control their operating processes to improve flexibility.
When a manipulator makes contact with an object having position uncertainty, performance measures vary considerably with the control law. To achieve the optimal solution for this problem, an unique objective function that weights time and impact force is suggested and is solved with the help of variational calculus. The resulting optimal velocity profile is then modified to define a sliding mode for the impact and force control. The sliding mode control technique is used to achieve the desired performance. Sets of experiments are performed, which show superior performance compared to any existing controller.
This study is to estimate the factor weights for a successful sea-ranching project using the Analytical Hierarchy Process. Furthermore, it investigates the policy implications revealed by the differences in group opinions throughout fishermen, government officials, researchers and the scholars when the weights are assessed. The hierarchy is constructed for the 3 levels of factors which must be evaluated for a successful sea-ranching project. The top level of factors is divided by the ecological factors and the socioeconomic factors. As the middle level of factors, there are 3 factors such as the choice of fish, the habitat environment and the production technology under the ecological factors and another 3 factors such as the stability of fishery society, economic factors, and the law & system under the socio-economic factors. And then, at the bottom level of the hierarchy, the economic factors have two different sub-factors such as the fishing revenue and cost. The law & system has also 3 sub-factors such as the accessibility to sea-ranching area, fishing method, and surveillance. The fishermen and government officials show us quite opposite tendencies in assessments of the weights while both the researchers and scholars reveal almost the same opinions positioned at somewhere between first two groups. The study also reports the evaluations of efficiency measures for resource recovery methods among the sea-ranching project, artificial reef, release of fish seeds, and marine protection area. Both the sea-ranching project and marine protection area have the same efficiency in terms of resource recovery while the artificial reef and release of fish seeds are revealed as somewhat less efficient methods comparing to the former two methods.

This paper proposes two distance measures between two cumulative hazard functions that can be obtained by comparing their difference and ratio, respectively. Then we estimate the measures and present goodness of t test statistics. Since the proposed test statistics are expressed in terms of the cumulative hazard functions, we can easily give more weights on earlier (or later) departures in cumulative hazards if we like to place an emphasis on earlier (or later) departures. We also show that these test statistics present comparable performances with other well-known test statistics based on the empirical distribution function for an exponential null distribution. The proposed test statistic is an omnibus test which is applicable to other lots of distributions than an exponential distribution.

In order to convert the one ryang of Guizhi-tang into the modern weights and measures, herbs whose dose was expressed by number in Treatise on Feverile Disease of Zhongjing were measured actually. The results obtained are as follows. 1. Size of Jujubae fructus in Guizhi-tang is an average and if remove the seed, 12 Jujubae fructuses corresponds to 20g. These weights are the same as Belamcandae Rhizoma, Persicae Semen, Gleditsiae Fructus, Gardeniae Fructus and Armeniacae amarum Semen whose dose was expressed by number in Treatise on Feverile Disease of Zhongjing. If one ryang corresponds to 6.5g, 20g corresponds to three ryang. If one ryang corresponds to 15.6g, 20g corresponds to 1.3 ryang. When herbs were added in Guizhi-tang, the used weights were two more ryang. Almost unit of weights in Formulae of Zhongjing is the constantly multiplied. 2. Half sheng(升) of Pinelliae Rhizomae is 15 Pinelliae Rhizomas and corresponds to two and a half ryang. 14 Pinelliae Rhizomas are contained in 50 mL egg. 3.1 geun(斤), maximal amount of Gypsum Fibrosum and amount of one egg are the same weight supposing one ryang corresponds to 6.5g. 4. 2 ryang of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma is the 6.8 balls(碁子) of baduk and similar as 5-6 balls of baduk of Jisilchijasi-Tang. 5. General dose of Glycyrrhizae Radix is two ryang and 20mL, the size of thumb is 13g. 6. Half geun approaches the 3 flattened spoons. Consequently the presumption that one ryang in Guizhi-tang is 15.6g is wrong. One ryang is assumed as 6.5g.

This empirical study investigated the effect of choice of record field(s) upon which to search on retrieval performance for a large operational bibliographic database. The query terms used in the study were identified algorithmically from each target set in four different ways: (1) controlled terms derived from index term frequency weights, (2) uncontrolled terms derived from index term frequency weights. (3) controlled terms derived from inverse document frequency weights, and (4) uncontrolled terms based on universe document frequency weights. Su potable choices of record field were recognised. Using INSPEC terminology, these were the fields: (1) Abstract. (2) 'Anywhere'(i.e., ail fields). (3) Descriptors. (4) Identifiers, (5) 'Subject'(i.e., 'Descriptors' plus Identifiers'). and (6) Title. The study was undertaken in an operational web-based IR environment using the INSPEC bibliographic database. The retrieval performances were evaluated using D measure (bivariate in Recall and Precision). The main findings were that: (1) there exist significant differences in search performance arising from choice of field, using 'mean performance measure' as the criterion statistic; (2) the rankings of field-choices for each of these performance measures is sensitive to the choice of query : and (3) the optimal choice of field for the D-measure is Title.
