Correlation of commute time with the risk of subjective mental health problems: 6th Korean Working Conditions Survey (KWCS)

  • Background: Studies conducted so far on the link between commute time and mental health among Koreans remain insufficient. In this study, we attempted to identify the relationship between commute time and subjective mental health using the 6th Korean Working Conditions Survey (KWCS). Methods: Self-reported commute time was divided into four groups: ≤ 30 (group 1), 30-60 (group 2), 60-120 (group 3), and > 120 minutes (group 4). Subjective depression was defined as a score of 50 points or less on the WHO-5 well-being index. Subjective anxiety and fatigue were defined as answering 'yes' to the questionnaire on whether they had experienced it over the past year. The analysis of variance, t-test, and χ2 test was used to analyze the differences among the characteristics of the study participants according to commute time, depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for depression, anxiety, and fatigue according to commute time were calculated using multivariate logistic regression models adjusted for sex, age, monthly income, occupation, company size, weekly working hours, and shift work status. Results: Long commute times showed increased ORs and graded increasing trends for depression, anxiety, and fatigue. The ORs for depression increased significantly in group 2 (1.06 [1.01-1.11]), group 3 (1.23 [1.13-1.33]), and group 4 (1.31 [1.09-1.57]) compared to group 1 (reference). The ORs for anxiety increased significantly in group 2 (1.17 [1.06-1.29]), group 3 (1.43 [1.23-1.65]) and group 4 (1.89 [1.42-2.53]). The ORs for fatigue increased significantly in group 2 (1.09 [1.04-1.15]), group 3 (1.32 [1.21-1.43]), and group 4 (1.51 [1.25-1.82]). Conclusions: This study highlights that the risk of depression, anxiety, and fatigue increases with commute time.

수술실 간호인력의 수요측정 및 간호제공량분석 - 수술대기시간과 수술시간을 중심으로 - (A Study of Nursing Manpower Requirements based on the Nursing Times spent in Operating Room of an University Hospital)

  • This Study was an attempt to estimate the optimum numbers of Operating Room Nursing Manpower by measuring the amount of service hours required by the patients in Operating Room in relation to the service amount actually provided by the nurses. The major concern of this study was placed on the measurement of Nursing Service Requirements by using the Operating Room (O. R) Patient Acuity System recently developed by M. M. Hart to classify the O. R. patients into four groups according to the degree of the complexity of operative procedure and some other elements which increase nursing activities in respect of patient care; Acuity IV group is the one requires nursing services most, on the other hand Acuity I requires least. nu sing The objectives of this study were as follows; 1. To analyze functions of the nursing personnel in O. R. by time unit and to estimate the average time a nurse can activate for productive functions. 2. To measure the actual amount of nursing times provided by nurses to the surgical patients. 3. To develop a patient classification system in order to measure the amount of Nursing services required by the patients. 4. To calculate an appropriate number of nursing manpower to meet the needs of the patients. In order to conduct the research both selected nurses and patients in 'S' University Hospital were Studied by utilizing the O. R. Patient Acuity System as well as the Classification Chart developed by Association of Operating Room Nurses (A. O. R. N) as a means of classifying functions of O. R. nurses. That is; Functions of the 10 selected O. R. nurses observed during the period of June 30 to July 4, 1986, whereas the amount of nursing services required by or provided to the 974 patients who had received surgeries during the period of June 9 to July 4, 1986. The results of this study were as follows; 1) The actual working hours per a nurse averaged 6.7 hours a day. 2) Each nurse's daily routine schedule consists of $71.4\%$ for Technical Functions, $16.1\%$ for Nonprodective Functions, $6.6\%$ for Assessment and Evaluation, $3.9\%$ for Overseeing and Supervision and the rest $2.0\%$ for Patient Preparation respectively. 3) Preoperative waiting time per a patient was 24.1 minutes on the average; for the first case was 10.7 minutes, whereas for the following cases was 32.0 minutes. 4) Total Operation time for the 974 patients during the period of observation for this study amounted to 2759.6 hours, weekly hour was equivalent to 689.9 hours, Whereas daily operation time averaged 130 hours. Meanwhile the average operation time per patient was 2.8 hours ; for the case of Acuity IV was 5.6 hours, 5. 1 hours for the case of Acuity III, 2.3 hours for Acuity II and 1.1 hours for Acuity I. 5) According to the O. R. Patient Acuity System, $64.5\%$ of the whole patients belonged to Acuity II, $23.7\%$ to Acuity III, 11. $3\%$ to Acuity IV and $0.7\%$ to Acuity I respectively. 6) Required amount of nursing times based on the preoperative waiting time and operation time was 7167.8 person hours, which showed that $5.5\%$ of them needed for preoperative nursing care, whereas the rest $94.5\%$ for intraoperative nursing care. In terms of the O. R. Patient Acuity System, $49.7\%$ of total nursing service requirements was needed for Acuity II patients, $27.4\%$ for Acuity III patients, $17.2\%$ for Acuity IV patients and $0.2\%$ for Acuity I patients. 7) The rate of the nursing services provided against the required nursing times was about $81.4\%$ on the average; some departments, like those of Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology whose patients mostly belonged to Acuity II recorded hegher provision rate than average, whereas other departments of Thoracic Surgery. Neurosurgery and Orthopedic Surgery whose patients belonged to Acuity III and Acuity IV as well as Acuity II recorded lower provision rate than average. 8) Subsequently, required numbers of nursing manpower was 10.7 nurses additionally. Based on the above findings the following recommendations will be made; 1) this study recommends, develops. and adopts an accurate and realistic O. R. Patient Acuity System which can help measure the nursing service requirements objectively to elicit the rationales of allocation of nursing personnels. 2) this study proposes storongly place nurses who take the role of preoperative nursing care exclusively for the waiting patients in O. R. and shortening their waiting time by close communication between the designated O. R. and the ward.

영유아 자녀를 둔 맞벌이가정 아버지와 어머니의 자녀돌봄시간과 시간사용 인식 및 만족도 (Child Care Time, and Perceptions of and Satisfaction with Time Use, of Fathers and Mothers in Dual-Income Families with Preschool Children)

  • 본 연구는 영유아 자녀를 둔 맞벌이 가정 아버지와 어머니의 자녀돌봄 실태를 돌봄유형별 자녀돌봄에 사용한 시간과 시간사용 관련 인식을 중심으로 비교하여 살펴보았다. 2019 통계청 생활시간조사 자료 중 영유아 자녀를 둔 아버지와 어머니의 근무일의 시간일지 444부를 분석한 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영유아 자녀를 둔 맞벌이 가정 부모의 근무일의 전체 자녀돌봄 시간은 평균 72.1분이며, 발달돌봄보다 필수돌봄에 좀 더 많은 시간을 사용하고 있었다. 둘째, 맞벌이 가정 아버지의 근무일의 자녀돌봄시간은 40.8분, 어머니의 자녀돌봄시간은 110.3분으로 크게 차이 났다. 돌봄유형별로도 어머니의 돌봄시간이 아버지의 돌봄시간보다 필수돌봄, 발달돌봄 각각 3배, 2배 정도로 더 많았다. 셋째, 가구소득 집단별로 어머니의 근무일 필수돌봄 시간에 차이가 있었으며, 아버지와 어머니 모두 주당 근로시간이 많은 집단과 적은 집단 간에 필수돌봄 시간에 차이가 있었다. 넷째, 영유아 자녀를 둔 맞벌이 가정 아버지와 어머니는 피로감과 시간부족감을 다소 느끼고 있으며, 가사분담 만족도는 어머니의 만족도가 아버지에 비해 낮았다. 아버지들의 자발적 참여를 이끌어낼 수 있도록 부모로서의 공동 책임을 강조하는 '공동육아'개념을 반영한 부모교육이 필요하며, 맞벌이 가정 아버지와 어머니의 부모로서의 권리를 보장한다는 측면에서 부모의 돌봄을 지원하는 제도의 확대와 가족친화적 직장문화의 확산이 요구된다.

업무용 건물의 용도 및 운전 기간별 에너지 소비 특성 연구 (A Study on the Energy Consumption Characteristics for Use and Operation Period in Office Buildings)

  • The purpose of this study is to calculate the energy consumption rate based on data regarding energy use in office buildings, and to confirm the general characteristics of energy consumption. The energy consumption rate of the building is calculated by dividing the energy consumption by the floor area. The energy consumption rate of small-sized office buildings was calculated as $101.48{\sim}201.55kWh/m^2{\cdot}year$ and in the case of medium-sized buildings, the range was $92.77{\sim}177.89kWh/m^2{\cdot}year$. In the case of small buildings, it was found that the energy consumption was $73.24kWh/m^2{\cdot}year$ in electronic device, $34.31kWh/m^2{\cdot}year$ in hot water supply, and $18.37kWh/m^2{\cdot}year$ in heating. In the case of medium-sized buildings, electronic devices was $73.08kWh/m^2{\cdot}year$, lighting was $18.35kWh/m^2{\cdot}year$ and heating, $15.37kWh/m^2{\cdot}year$. In all of the study buildings, the peak heating energy use was observed from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m during the winter, and the peak power management was required. Energy use at and around the midnight hour is confirmed to be 40~60% of weekly working hours, so it is necessary to manage power use at night time as well as during the day. In order to improve the accuracy of future studies, it is necessary to make efforts to secure the data with standardized energy measuring units for the various type of buildings.

가족공유 가사노동시간 및 영향요인 연구 (Time Use of Family Housework and the Influencing Factors on It)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the family sharing time of housework and to examine the sharing time with family is influenced by socio-demographic variables. The Time Use Survey data collected by Korean National Statistical Office in 2009 is used. Among the total sample of 21,000 individuals, 9,179 samples who are married, aged from 20 to 59 years old and non-farmers are selected for analysis. The statistical methods are frequency, percentage, crosstabulation, t-test, and regression analysis. The following is a summary of the major findings. First, comparison of men and women shows women spend more time on housework than men do. But sharing housework time with family for men increase on Sunday. Performer average is almost same in men and women. Secondly, the family sharing time on housework is longer on Sunday. It is due to increase of men's family sharing time. It means that men's time substitute for women's housework. Thirdly, the influencing factors on family sharing housework are gender, age, education, presence of spouses, monthly income, dual earner status, weekly working hours, gender role atittude and presence of preschoolers. Family sharing housework is not only household labor but also family pleasure time. It means family policy should focus on making family time for workers fundamentally. And family policy needs to make a system of educational program for work-family balance.

청소년 노동의 실태와 노동인권 의식에 관한 연구 (A Research on Actual Conditions of Juvenile Labor and Labor Rights Consciousness)

  • 본 연구는 지역사회에서 이루어지고 있는 청소년 노동의 실태와 노동인권 의식에 관한 실태조사를 통해서 S시에 거주하는 청소년들이 경험하고 있는 노동 상황을 파악하고, 청소년들이 노동 현장에서 부딪치는 여러 가지 내용들을 통해서 청소년들이 어떤 처우를 받고, 어떻게 대응하는가에 대한 실태를 파악하고자 한다. 또한 이들 청소년들이 노동현장에서 부당한 대우를 받았을 때 어떻게 대응하는 것이 바람직한가에 대한 올바른 교육을 위한 기초 자료를 확보하는 데 있다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전체 대상자 중 청소년 노동인 아르바이트 경험이 있는 학생이 262명 50.5%로 나타났다. 둘째, 노동인권에 대한 교육 경험이 있는 경우가 133명 24.9% 나타나서, 상대적으로 적은 학생들만이 노동인권에 대한 교육을 받은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 학생들의 아르바이트 경험에 대한 조사에서는 아르바이트를 할 때 가장 중요하게 고려하는 것은 '급여'로 응답자 중 54.2%이며, 아르바이트 구직방법은 '부모, 친구, 지인소개'가 응답자 중 67.7%이고, 최근에 경험한 아르바이트 종류는 '음식점'으로 응답자의 60.2%로 나타났다. 평균노동시간은 1일 7시간 정도이며, 주간은 20시간으로 나타나서 상대적으로 장시간을 노동에 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 청소년들의 노동 참여과정에서 근로계약서를 작성하는 경우는 응답자의 28.9%로 나타났으며, 아르바이트의 주된 목적은 '돈을 벌려고'가 응답자의 82.1%이었다. 다섯째, 아르바이트를 하면서 부당한 대우를 경험했는가에 대해서는 응답자의 24.7%가 '그렇다'라고 하였으며, 부당한 대우의 해당 사례에 대해 복수 응답하게 한 결과 '약속이외의 업무'가 17.9%로 가장 높았다. 부당한 대우에 대한 대처방법에 대해서는 '일을 그만두었다' 30.3%로 가장 높았으며, 마지막으로 청소년의 아르바이를 위해 개선되어야 할 사항에 대해 복수 응답으로 조사한 결과 '최저임금, 주휴수당 등의 임금수준'이 25.1%, '사회적 인식개선' 14.3%, '좋은 일자리 확대' 12.8%, 등으로 나타났다.

물리치료사의 업무 스트레스 현황과 대응수준 -부산지역을 중심으로- (An Analysis of Work Stress of Physical Therapist and Reaction)

  • This study aims to enhance work efficiency and satisfaction by offering data that make a physical therapist cope with stress coming from the job efficiently by identifying and analyzing the job satisfaction and work stress perceived by a physical therapist, and the level of reaction of a physical therapist. The study distributed survey questionnaires to 300 physical therapists working in medical institutions in Busan via mail and by visit from March 3, 2007 by selecting them simply and randomly from the physical therapist list, and collected the questionnaires by March 20, 2007, 103 respondents were working at 17 general hospitals including a university hospital, 65 respondents at 12 medical centers, and 79 respondents at 39 doctor's offices. The study collected 251 copies, which showed the collection rate of 83.7%, and analyzed 247 copies (82.3%) excluding 4 copies of insincere answers. As a research tool for measuring job satisfaction the study used a tool employed for research into the job satisfaction of physical therapists who work at medical institutions in Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk by Kim Hee-Gwon(1992) and research regarding job satisfaction by Jeong Jeong-Hee(2004) as well as research regarding the factors of job satisfaction by Flippo(1980) & Seberhagen(1970) after adjusting the research tools to the purpose of the study. Also for questions about work stress, the study employed nurses' job stress measurement tool developed by Kim Mae-Ja and em Mi-Ok(1984) by modifying the tool to the purpose of the study, and for a measurement tool for reaction to stress, the study used a tool employed for research into reaction to stress of nurses at general hospitals by Choi Eun-Deok(2005) without modification. For data analysis, the study used the SPSS12.0 as a statistical method, and then used t-test or ANOVA for verifying actual numbers, percentile, average :score, standard deviation, rank, and difference. Also, the study conducted which is a post-test method for variables that show a significant difference at the level of p<.05 level after the analysis. The findings include the following. 1) The respondents' job satisfaction score was 3.21 points on the average (out of 5 full points). The peer relationship ranked the highest, posting 4.02 points on the average, and the job satisfaction with rewards was proven the lowest, posting 2.51 points. For the job satisfaction level by characteristics, there were significant differences (p<.05) in gender, hospital type, weekly working hours, monthly working days, number of patients per day, department in charge of therapy, and number of peers, and there was no significant difference in characteristics other than that. 2) The respondents' work stress score was 2.72 points (out of 5 full points) on the average. The respondents were shown to be under the highest stress when they suffered from excessive workload, posting 3.49 points on the average, and they were shown to be under the least stress when they had a conflict with peers at another department, recording 1.90 points on the average. for the job stress level by the characteristics of job, there was a significant difference in the reflection of job assessment(p<.05). 3) 1n respondents' reaction to stress, most of them were shown to make efforts in coping with stress, posting 2.80 points (out of 5 full points). For their experience of being wider stress, they answered that 'they felt depressed (2.85 points)" for their experience of coping with stress, they answered that 'they were indifferent to it or thought about something else' (2.62 points). Also, for their efforts in coping with stress, they answered that 'they were motivated to remove their strain by taking leave, playing, or using their preferences' (3.52 points), which ranked higher. For the level of reaction to stress by characteristics, there were significant differences by age, gender, marital status, total service years as a physical therapist, monthly working days, and department in charge of therapy(p<.05). It is necessary to offer correct information by conducting an in-depth analysis of the stressful situations of physical therapists who exert efforts in rehabilitating patients at hospitals by factor, and seeking management plans based on the research results. Also, it is necessary to develop a program for coping with stress efficiently for removing stress and to conduct research into the understanding and cooperation of administrators and persons in charge of physical therapists for reducing physical therapists' stress at hospitals.

과학기술인력의 성별 임금격차에 관한 연구 (Study on Gender Pay Gap of Scienceand Engineering Labor Force)

  • 창조경제를 견인하기 위해 다양성과 창의성이 중시되는 환경에서 여성과학기술인력의 활용은 무엇보다 중요해지고 있으며, 경제적 지위를 측정하는 기준으로 노동의 시장가격인 임금에 대한 분석을 통해 성차별을 인식하고 개선하기 위한 노력이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 Oaxaca-Ransom 임금분해 방법(1994)을 활용하여 과학기술인력을 대상으로 남녀 임금에 미치는 영향 요인 및 성별 임금 분해를 실시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학기술인력의 특성을 살펴보면 여성의 평균 임금 수준은 남성의 65%에 불과하며, 학력 등 개인적 특성에서 남성이 우세한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 임금에 영향을 미치는 변수를 살펴보면 여성과 남성 모두 학력 연령이 높을수록, 근무기간 및 주당근로시간이 많을수록, 관리자 직종에 근무할수록 임금 프리미엄이 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 남성과 여성의 임금분해 결과를 살펴보면, 과학기술인력의 경우 개인적 특성에 의한 생산성 차이가 약 58%, 노동시장에서의 특성에 기인한 성별에 의한 차별은 41%로 나타났다. 비과학기술인력에 비교하였을 시 과학기술인력이 생산성으로 인한 임금격차가 크며 성별에 의한 차별은 덜 한 것으로 나타났다. 그러나, 전공별 및 학력별로 분석한 결과 성에 의한 여성차별은 전체 인력 중 여성의 비율이 낮을수록 노동시장에서 임시근로자 비율이 높을수록 심한 것으로 나타났다. 이를 개선하기 위해서는 여성과학기술인력의 노동시장에서의 여성 불균형 현상이 무엇보다 필요하며, 여성스스로는 개인의 역량을 지속적으로 강화하는 노력이 수반되어야 할 것이다.

경남지역 일부 산업간호사의 업무수행에 관한 연구 (Study on activities of some occupational health nurses in Kyungnam area)

  • Authors purposed to observe activities of occupational health nurses and it's related factors, and to suggest the way that induct better occupational health nurses' activities with questionaire to 87 occupational health nurses who individually work as health manager in the plant. The questionaire included type of plant and number of workers, general characteristics, work conditions, activities, etc. Major findings are as follows. 1. 82.8% of occupational health nurses were third decade. 93.1% graduated junior college or college. And 82.8% were not married. 2. General work conditions: 40.2% were belonged to safety-health section, 98.85% were mere clerks. 60.9% worked less than weekly 44 hours, and an annual salary of 50.6 % was between 10 million and 14 million won. 3. Work condition related to health manager work: there was separated health care room in 94.3%, working period as health manager(occupational health nurse) was less than 5 years in 70.1%, 49.4% had the out-of-health manager work. In 87.4%, occupational physician was appointed, only 6.9% of them were full time, 52.9% of them worked little in the plants. The problems related to workers' health were discussed with industrial nurses in 88.5%. 4. Attitude for their work: 88.5% were thought that their work is important for workers' health care, 57.5% satisfied to work as health manager. In 51.7%, motive to being industrial nurse were the appropriate aptitude. 5. Activities: General medical care in 100% were carried out, in 97.7% works related to general health examination, in 100% works related to special health examination were carried. But works related to use of protective apparatus were carried out in 20.8%. 6. Factors related to level of activities: In cases who solved the health related problems by themselves, the level of activites was significantly higher than in others. In cases there were full time occupational physician, the level of activities was significantly lower. 7. Occupational health nurse's needs: 100% wanted regular education, 89.7% wanted the qualifying examination. As the results, author suggests that the right of self-control is given to occupational health nurses and the work of occupational physician is clearly defined for the induction of the better activities of occupational health nurses.

중고령기에서 초기노년기에 걸친 주관적 건강상태의 격차: 고용형태와 사회적 자본의 효과를 중심으로 (Inequalities in Self-rated Health among Middle-aged and Young-old Waged Workers: The Contribution of Precarious Employment and Social Capital)

  • 본 연구는 중고령층에서 초기노년층의 주관적 건강수준의 변화양상과 그 격차를 결정짓는 요인으로 불안정 고용(precarious employment) 및 고용상태 관련 요인의 영향력을 살펴보고자 하였다. 또한 공적 및 사적 사회적 자본이 중고령기에서 초기노년기에 이르는 주관적 건강상태의 격차를 완화시킬 수 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 한국노동패널조사(KLIPS) 6차~17차년도 자료를 사용하였고, 다수준 성장곡선 모형(Multi-level growth curve modeling)을 고정효과(fixed effects) 모형과 확률효과(random effects)모형으로 STATA 13.0을 사용하여 추정하였다. 또한 두 모형을 기반으로 한 가설검정을 위해 하우스만 검정을 수행하였다. 연구결과는 정규직에 비해 일용직이 시간에 따른 주관적 건강상태의 변화를 악화시키는 요인으로 나타났으며, 임금, 고용상태의 질(근로시간), 사적/관계적 사회적 자본이 중고령기에서 초기노년기에 이르는 건강격차를 설명할 수 있는 주요 요인으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 기반으로 '확산 가설'과 '누적되는 이익' 가설을 지지하고 있으며, 중고령기에서 초기노년기에 이르는 건강불평등을 완화시킬 수 있는 고용지원 정책 및 사회적 서비스 개발 방향을 제시하고 있다.
