Web-based Cyber Instruction for EFL Learning

  • The aim of this study is to examine the effects of web-based cyber instruction on EFL learning from the viewpoint of learners` perceptions and needs. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey that was carried out with 709 undergraduate student enrolled in three cyber English courses offered at N university during the secind semester in 2004. The results of the study indicated that the learners exhibited a positive attitude towards web-based cyber instruction and considered it a paper educational method in the cyber age. However, the students perceived that web-based cyber instruction was not greatly satisfactory in terms of cultivating their English communicative competence or improving the language skills they needed. It was also found that cyber instruction was still teacher-dominant, lacking in interaction, which made the students passive recipients of informaton presented. In comparison with off-line instruction, cyber instruction was not particularly better in enhancing their motivation interest or concentration on class. To be more effective, cyber instruction needs to be equipped not only with a large variety of contents and class activities, but also with more exposure to authentic language by native English speakers. The finding of the investigation yield some implications for the design and development of web-based cyber EFL programs.

  • Web-based instruction is being developed as a new study model getting out of the traditional standardized education method. It is a new education tool which promotes learner-centered and cooperative study. Flash, as one of the most powerful web authoring tool can maximize the effectiveness of learning using computer graphic, animation, sounds and video. In this paper, we will look at developing and distributing education materials using flash and the efficient web-based instructions.

Management Education by Utilizing the Cyber Education Learning System (웹기반 원격교육시스템을 활용한 경영학 교육)

  • This paper discusses management education by utilizing the cyber education learning system in a web-based. New learning system tools offer great promise for a new contents of management learning. The cyber education learning system a shift from face-to-face lecturing to interactive learning. The situation changes profoundly when information technology becomes develope and education paradigm is shift. By exploiting the digital media. educations, and students, managers can shift to a new, more effect cyber education learning system. The following shift from classic educations to cyber educations learning system: from instruction to construction, from teacher-centered to learner-centered, from school to lifelong, from one-size-fits-all to customized, from teacher as transmitter to teacher as facilitator. Cyber education learning system has an important role to play in management education. Web-based technology is regarded as a general solution to cyber education learning. This study discussed many factors of implementation in cyber education systems and provide utilizing the learning system at main, detail functions. Lastly, management implications of these cyber education utilize are discussed in more detail.

The Effectiveness of Streaming Video with Web Based Text in Online Course: Comparative Study on Three Types of Online Instruction for Korean College Students

  • This study is to identify whether three types of online instruction (text-based, video-based, and video-based instruction without text) and age category have a different influence on students' comprehension and motivation. Online students were randomly assigned to one of six groups, and they attended two-week online lectures via Course Management System. The comprehension test and the short form of IMMS were implemented when 114 participants accomplished two-week online lectures. The results revealed that using instructional video in online instruction is more effective instructional medium than text only in order to promote learner's motivation. Besides, older adults aged 41-60 are significantly different from younger adults (21-40 years old) in terms of students' comprehension. Furthermore, three types of online instructions are likely to be influenced by age category.

  • Recently, the advent or WWW widely increased computer-mediated instruction and a majority of Web-based instruction lack interactive capabilities. In this study. we propose a adaptive Web-based courseware model with learner's motivates and design database tables in order to apply using button theory. Therefore, we design database tables which is diagnosed learner's status within each windows with contents for checking motivation to learn itself via Web-based cyber instruction.

Web Accessibility Evaluation of Cyber Universities' Contents in Korea (국내 사이버대학 콘텐츠의 웹 접근성 평가)

  • This paper analyzes if the rapidly increasing cyber universities' remote education provides services based on web accessibility standard and suggest the direction to reduce information difference between people. It selected 10 cyber universities recognized by the government and analyzed the application situation of the web accessibility using' A-Prompt', an evaluation and analysis tool for web accessibility focusing on factors that can be evaluated technically. It also compared it with $\ulcorner$cyber universities remote education web accessibility result$\lrcorner$ performed in 2006 to confirm if the accessibility is improved according to 'web contents accessibility instruction (KWCAG) 1.0. The result shows that the items such as the use of text and the support of supplementary explanation tool have improved. But it was analyzed that it is difficult for people to use web contents provided by domestic cyber universities. So the educational contents' accessibility application must be considered to solve such problems and publicize the remote education.

Evaluation of Participation & Management on the Cyber Hospice Specialist Program (사이버 호스피스 전문 간호 교육 과정에서의 학습참여와 운영평가)

  • Purpose: The research purposes analyzed the study participation and lecture evaluation of applicants in the cyber hospice specialist education course to find problems of nurse education application on the web. Method: Study participants were 125 nurses for participation and 68nurses for lecture evaluation. The data was analysed by descriptive statistics. Result: The results obtained from this study were as follows 1) The residence distribution of study participants was spread out across the nation. Equal distribution of education was accomplished without a difference among provinces. 2) The average study duration in the study participation was about one hour and a quarter minutes a week, and number of access to lecture notes was 65.8 times. But in a discussion room and a cooperative room, the system using rate was very low, so we considered the idea to come up with a more effective application way. 3) The participant's lecture evaluation of cyber education were generally satisfied about the quality of lecture, time, contents etc. Conclusion: This study shows the possible implication for nursing fields using a web-based learning program for reeducation in a variety of fields, so nursing cyber application can be considered to come up with this more effective method.

  • Education paradigm is moved from traditional face-to-face method to cyber education environment. Therefore, we extracted the components of cyber education system and their detail functions through analysis on the workflow of education and learning standard technology. In addition, we think that template system will make a big role in order to deploy the cyber education system. Therefore, we designed the template system for cyber education. In this paper, we particularly describe both evaluation funrtion on course learning records and statistics function ell evaluation records.

  • In this knowledge-based society, a man of ability should be able to be possessed of abilities to create new knowledge while selecting, acquiring and processing knowledge and information in line with his own purpose and communicating it to other people and sharing it with them. With the aid of the emergence of web, cyber learning in the form of web-based instruction is brought to the fore. Yet, the established way of cyber learning is based on the system where learners should proceed with this study on his own instead of relying on the interaction between teachers and learners. The established way of cyber learning leaves something to be desired in terms of the application of the way to class, being almost bereft of a system capable of recreating knowledge as the result of study. Accordingly, this study is designed to develop a cyber learning system using models with the concepts of knowledge construction. The system enabled students to cultivate abilities to analyze materials and to improve creativity, producing the following system; applying it to the teaching-learning process of social studies: the system capable of being applied to a series of process from the stage of grasping problems to the stage of learning completion; the system enabling teachers and students as well to produce study results; the system enabling students to recreate knowledge in the form of homepages from constructed learning resources instead of producing fragmental knowledge.

Development of the Contents for Cyber Learning System of Korean Costumes (한국복식 사이버 학습 시스템 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the contents for Cyber Learning System of Korean Costumes on WBI(Web Based Instruction) that can be applied to home economics learning and teaching and used to help learners get more positive attitude toward home economics education through various activities. The contents consist of the materials about Korean costumes that are divided into five periods, that is, three ancient kingdoms(Shilla, Packche, and Koguryo), Unified Shilla, Koryo Dynasty, Chosun Dynasty and early 1900s in Korea. They also consist of lectures on kinds, characteristics, and changing procedures of those costumes. These lectures are supposed to help learners understand the traditional culture of Korean costumes. Furthermore, the lists of terminology on Korean costumes enable learners to solve the problems related to the costumes on their own. In conclusion, the developed contents on Korean costumes for Cyber learning make it possible to learn and teach home economics in the distance by applying the educational information system to secondary schools and to support the learning system for the home economics education in the schools.
