  • To design a user-adaptive web surfing system, we nay take the approach to divide the whole process into three phases; collecting user data, processing the data to construct and improve the user profile, and adapting to the user by applying the user profile. We have designed three software agents. Each privately works in each phase and they collaboratively support adaptive web surfing. They are IIA(Interactive Interface Agent), UPA(User Profile Agent), and ANA(Autonomous Navigation Agent). IIA provides the user interface, which collects data and performs mechanical navigation support. UPA processes the collected user data to build and update the user profile while user is web-surfing. ANA provides an autonomous navigation mode in which it automatically recommends web pages that are selected based on the user profile. The proposed approach and design method, through extensions and refinements, may be used to build a practical adaptive web surfing system.

  • Mobile handhold devices such as PDA(Personal Digital Assistant) and Cellular Phone are more and more popular for personal web surfing. But today, most mobile handheld devices have relatively poor web browsing capability because of the small bandwidth of wireless connection, the small speed of CPU, the small capacity of RAM and Flash ROM, the small display size of LCD and the short lifecycle of battery. Users have to endure bigger communication latency than Desk PC's one because of these factors. In this paper, we propose an effective pre-refresh mechanism for handheld device's embedded web browser so as to make user's web surfing faster. The experiment was done using the simulator designed by ourselves and the experiment result demonstrates the proposed mechanism has a good performance to make web surfing faster.

  • Lately mobile handheld devices such as Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and cellular phones are getting more popular for personal web surfing. However, today most mobile handheld devices have relatively poor web browsing capability due to their low performance so their users have to suffer longer communication latency than those of desktop Personal Computers (PCs). In this paper, we propose an effective pre-refresh mechanism for embedded web browser of mobile handheld devices to reduce this problem. The proposed mechanism uses the idle time to pre-refresh the expired web objects in an embedded web browser's cache memory. It increases the utilization of Central Processing Unit (CPU) power and network bandwidth during the idle time and consequently reduces the client's latency and web browsing cost. An experiment was done using a simulator designed by us to evaluate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism. The experiment result demonstrates that it has a good performance to make web surfing faster.

  • Due to the exponential increase of information, search and access for the Web information or service takes much time. Web information is represented through several web pages using hyperlinks and each web page is contains several topics. However. most existing web tools don't reflect such web authoring tendencies and treat it as an independent information unit. This inconsistency yields inherent problems in web browsing and searching. In this paper, we propose a web surfing assistant called LinkBroker that provides collodion pages. They are composed of relevant information extracted from several web pages that have table and frame structure in order to improve accessibility to web information. Especially, the system extracts a set of web pages that are logically connected and groups those pages using table and frame tags. Then, essential information blocks in each page of a group are extracted to construct an integrated summary page. It Provides a comprehensive view to user and one cut way to access distributed information. Experimental results show the effectiveness and usefulness of LinkBroker system.

  • The goal of this research has been to develop an adaptive user agent for web surfing. To achieve this goal, the research has concentrated on three issues: collection of user data, construction and improvement of user profile, and adaptation by applying the user profile. The main outcome from the research is a prototype system that provides the functional definition and componential design scheme for an adaptive user agent for the web environment. Internally, the system achieves its operational goal from the cooperation of two independent agents. They are IIA (Interactive Interface Agent) and UPA (User Profiling Agent). As a tool for providing a user-friendly interface environment, the IIA employs the Keyword Index, which is a list of index terms of a webpage as well as a keyword menu for subsequent queries, and the Suggest Link, which is a hierarchical list of URLs showing the past browsing procedure of the user. The UPA reflects in the User Profile, both the static and the dynamic information obtained from the user's browsing behavior. In particular, a user's interests are represented in the form of Interest Vectors which, based on the similarity of the vectors, is subject to update and creation, thus dynamically profiling the user's ever-shifting interests.

  • Individualization serverces to be persuited in most web sites are not one automated by system but collectivization services provided into several groups with information collected in initial register. Also, as most of the web sites provide individualization services according to environmental setting fitted by each individual, it is hard to offer to provide them with analyzing members by system itself. In this paper, as we store behavior characters of members on web surfing into member database and anlyze them automatically, system itself enables to provide individualization services.

  • Currently, many kinds of World Wide Web contents are produced by an individual journalism. Users who simply obtain information by surfing the web becomes the producer, and many contents created by these users reflect on their own interesting topics and social issues. Among these issues, the environmental contents are considered in this study, which we proposed as EcoMap, a media service platform for such contents. In terms of EcoMap, a way of thinking about our own environment would be affected, and the environmental information will be produced and shared more effectively by the users on the web.

  • As mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and kiosks become increasingly prevalent, there is growing interest in developing alternative input systems in addition to traditional tools such as keyboards and mouses. Many people use their own bodies as a pointer to enter simple information on a mobile device. However, methods using the body have limitations due to psychological factors that make the contact method unstable, especially during a pandemic, and the risk of shoulder surfing attacks. To overcome these limitations, we propose a simple information input system that utilizes gaze-tracking technology to input passwords and control web surfing using only non-contact gaze. Our proposed system is designed to recognize information input when the user stares at a specific location on the screen in real-time, using intelligent gaze-tracking technology. We present an analysis of the relationship between the gaze input box, gaze time, and average input time, and report experimental results on the effects of varying the size of the gaze input box and gaze time required to achieve 100% accuracy in inputting information. Through this paper, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our system in mitigating the challenges of contact-based input methods, and providing a non-contact alternative that is both secure and convenient.
