  • The developments of double skin composite (DSC) walls with novel enhanced C-channel connectors (DSCW-EC) were reported. Followed axial compression tests on prototype walls were carried to evaluate structural performances of this novel DSC composite structures. The testing program consists of five specimens and focused on the layout of the novel enhanced C-channel (EC) connectors, which include the web direction of C-channels, steel-faceplate thickness, vertical and horizontal spacing of C-channels. Crushing in concrete core and buckling of steel faceplate were two main observed failed modes from the compression tests. However, elastic or plastic buckling of the steel faceplate varies with designed parameters in different specimens. The influences of those investigated parameters on axial compressive behaviors of DSCW-ECs were analyzed and discussed. Recommendations on the layout of novel EC connectors were then given based on these test results and discussions. This paper also developed analytical models for predictions on ultimate compressive resistance of DSCW-ECs. Validation against the reported test results show that the developed theoretical models predict well the ultimate compressive resistance of DSCW-ECs.

  • Electrospinning has known to be very effective tool for production of versatile one-dimensional (1D) nanostructured materials such as nanofibers, nanorod, and nanotubes and for easily assembly to two-, three-dimensional(2D, 3D) nanostructures such as thin film, membrane, and nonwoven web, etc. We have studied on the electrospinning technology for novel energy storage and conversion materials such as advanced separator, dye sensitized solar cell, supercapacitor, etc. High heat-resistive nanofibrous membrane as a new separator for future lithium ion polymer battery was prepared by electrospinning of PVdF based composite solution. The novel nanofibrous composite nonwovens have tensile strength of above 50 MPa and modulus of above 1.3 GPa. The internal structure of the electrospun composite nanofiber with a diameter of few hundreds nanometer were composed of core-shell nanostructure. And also electrospun $TiO_2$ nanorod/nanosphere based dye-sensitized solar cells with high efficiency are successfully prepared. Some battery performance will be introduced.

  • The World-Wide Web is the largest distributed Information space and has grown to encompass diverse information resources. However, although Web is growing exponentially, the individual's capacity to read and digest contents is essentially fixed. From the view point of Web users, they can be confused by explosion of Web information, by constantly changing Web environments, and by lack of understanding needs of Web users. In these Web environments, mining traversal patterns is an important problem in Web mining with a host of application domains including system design and Information services. Conventional traversal pattern mining systems use the inter-pages association in sessions with only a very restricted mechanism (based on vector or matrix) for generating frequent k-Pagesets. We develop a family of novel algorithms (termed WebPR - Web Page Recommend) for mining frequent traversal patterns and then pageset to recommend. Our algorithms provide Web users with new page views, which Include pagesets to recommend, so that users can effectively traverse its Web site. The main distinguishing factors are both a point consistently spanning schemes applying inter-pages association for mining frequent traversal patterns and a point proposing the most efficient tree model. Our experimentation with two real data sets, including Lady Asiana and KBS media server site, clearly validates that our method outperforms conventional methods.

  • Web services are the current most promising technology for service oriented architecture(SOA) implementations. However, in spite of the large scale acceptance of web services, they have been relegated to internal integration projects, and the grand vision of virtual enterprises where partners can be integrated on demand is yet to be realized. The main reason is that the current standards of web services are not very suitable for the dynamic web service discovery and integration. In this paper, we present a novel SemanticBPEL solution that merges the benefit of WS-BPEL, with the advantage of OWL-S for building a semi-automatic web service composition system. In particular, this work proposes a multi-phase search method for solving dynamic discovery and integration problems of web services. The proposed method is compared with the existing keyword based retrieval method. These comparisons show that our approach outperforms the existing method.

  • In general, topographical phenomena are represented graphically by data in the spatial domain, while attributes of the non-spatial domain are expressed by alpha-numeric texts. GIS functions for analysis of attributes in the non-spatial domain remain quite simple, such as search methods and simple statistical analysis. Recently, graph modeling and network analysis of social phenomena are commonly used for understanding various social events and phenomena. In this study, we applied the network analysis functions to the non-spatial domain data of GIS to enhance the overall spatial analysis. For this purpose, a novel design was presented to integrate the spatial database and the graph database, and this design was then implemented into a WebGIS system for better decision makings. The developed WebGIS with underlying synchronized databases, was tested in a simulated application about the selection of water supply households during an epidemic of the foot-and-mouse disease. The results of this test indicate that the developed WebGIS can contribute to improved decisions by taking into account the social proximity factors as well as geospatial factors.

  • Not many years ago, people found the contemporary technology expensive and difficult to use in collaborative type of meetings. Today, with the technology advanced to high standards and accessible at cheaper price, its adaption is becoming more and more ubiquitous with wide range of applications. Today's meeting rooms are not just plain old telephone systems with microphones and speakers. Today's meeting rooms are smart and intelligent. They can identify the participants; they can provide natural view of remote participants; they can proactively manage resources for collaboration and so on. More effective collaboration is possible with deployment of devices like high-definition cameras, advanced displays, sensors, gigabit networks, trackers, pointers, and high-end audio devices. Devices alone are not enough in the meeting rooms. We need software infrastructure to manage the devices and meeting contexts. One such software infrastructure is SMeet, a Smart Meeting space, which we have developed to provide an effective multi-party remote collaboration environment. Networked display systems are used in such advanced collaboration environment for better visualization. In this paper we discuss a novel approach to control and manage networked display systems in SMeet environment.

  • Pervasive computing and Internet of Things (IoT) have recently received considerable interest to deploy solutions for the future Internet. Smart environments are integrated with Semantic Web to provide context-awareness to the processed information. Self-learning techniques have been adopted within smart solutions for efficient retrieval of data but do not process data with privacy parameters for in-place authorization. To overcome this issue, we present a novel approach of deploying access control as a service mechanism within Semantic Web based smart environment by using eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML). The proposed XACML as a Service (XACMLaaS) approach offers fine-grained access control for protecting information within smart environment. In this paper, we have defined mathematical rules for each components of proposed access control service layer. These rules are for implementation of access control using XACML. The proposed approach allows the adaptation of authorization of information at component level and provides scalable solution for authorization policies and rule enforcement within smart environment.

  • In a web environment, similar information exists in many different places in diverse formats. Even duplicate information is stored in the various databases using different terminologies. Since most information serviced in the current World Wide Web however had been constructed before the advent of ontology, it is practically almost impossible to construct ontology for all those resources in the web. In this paper, we assume that most information in the web environment exist in the form of RDBMS, and propose a matching method between domain ontology and existing RDBMS tables for semantic retrieval. In the processing of extracting a local ontology, some problems such as losing domain in formation can occur since the correlation of domain ontology has not been considered at all. To prevent these problems, we propose an instance-based matching which uses relational information between RDBMS tables and relational information between classes in domain ontology. To verify the efficiency of the method proposed in this paper, several experiments are conducted using the digital heritage information currently serviced in the countrywide museums. Results show that the proposed method increase retrieval accuracy in terms of user relevance and satisfaction.

  • Recently, Internet web services including bulletin board of companies, public intuitions, or governments became the main ways of personal information leakage. However, it is hard to succeed to detect personal information and protect it from leakage manually by system administrators, because the number of web boards and attached files is so huge. Therefore, automatic scanning and filtering methods are needed to protect personal information like resident registration numbers from unexpected exposure. To do this, we developed a novel and advanced web security system for automatic personal information scanning and filtering.

  • This paper introduces the Interactive Power Electronics Seminar - iPES - a new software package for teaching of fundamentals of power electronic circuits and systems. iPES is constituted by HTML text with Java applets for interactive animation, circuit design and simulation and visualization of electromagnetic fields and thermal issues in power electronics. It does comprise an easy-to-use self-explaining graphical user interface. The software does need just a standard web-browser, i.e. no installations are required. iPES can be accessed via the World Wide Web or from a CD-ROM in a stand-alone PC by students and professionals. Due to the underlying software technology iPES is very flexible and could be used for on-line learning and could easily be integrated into an e-learning platform. The aim of this paper Is to give an introduction to the iPES-project and to show the different areas covered. The e- learning software is available at no costs at $\underline{www.ipes.ethz.ch}$ in English, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Spanish. The project is still under development and the web page is updated in about 4 weeks intervals.
