  • We report here on the processing and manufacturing of thin film for printed electronics by micro-gravure coating system. The micro-gravure coating systems are consisted of various modules such as web and system tension controller, micro-gravure coating units, dispenser and hybrid dry units (UV, NIR, Hot air). Especially, for the optimization of system, the number of idle roller was minimized and tension isolating infeeder was included. Also, we applied four patterns circle, 45 degree, square and 35 degree for the optimizing coating thickness. The micro-gravure coating system which applied various patterns to enable continuous coating process and fast coating time compare with conventional batch coating system. In this paper, introduce of micro-gravure coating system and testing results of coating thickness (20~700nm), coating time (1~2sec) and surface roughness (3~12nm) by using micro-gravure coating system.

  • Background Syndactyly of the foot is the second most common congenital foot anomaly. In East Asia, however, no large case study has been reported regarding the clinical features of isolated foot syndactyly. In this study, we report a review of 118 patients during the last 25 years. Methods We conducted a chart review of patients who underwent surgical correction for foot syndactyly between January 1990 and December 2014. Operations were performed with a dorsal triangular flap and a full-thickness skin graft. The demographics of included patients and their clinical features were evaluated. Surgical outcomes and complications were analyzed. Results Among 118 patients with 194 webs (155 feet), 111 patients showed nonsyndromic cases and 7 patients showed syndromic cases. In 80 unilateral cases (72.1%), the second web was the most frequently involved (37.5%), followed by the fourth (30%), the first (15%), the third (15%), the first and second in combination (1.3%), and the second and third in combination (1.3%). Among 31 bilateral cases, 2 cases were asymmetric. Among the remaining 29 symmetric bilateral cases, the second web was the most frequently involved (45.2%), followed by the first (22.6%), and the fourth (6.5%). No specific postoperative complications were observed, except in the case of 1 patient (0.51%) who required a secondary operation to correct web creep. Conclusions This retrospective clinical study of 118 patients with both unilateral and bilateral foot syndactyly revealed that the second web was the most frequently involved. In addition, complete division and tension-free wound closure with a full-thickness skin graft of sufficient size showed good postoperative results.

  • This paper investigated the structural capacity of the CT shear connectors, which is a kind of the perfobond rib and functions as an anchor transferring the tension force in the joint between a composite PHC wall pile and a bottom slab. The direct pull-out test was performed for various specimens. From failure modes and load-displacement curves, it was found that transverse rebars should be placed to holes in a web to restrict pull-out failure of CT shear connectors. The results of additional tests for specimens with transverse rebars and various support lengths indicated that all specimens were failed by the tension failure of PHC pile before pull-out failure of CT shear connector and concrete pull-out failure. Thus, the CT shear connector could endure the tension force between the PHC wall pile and the bottom slab.

  • This paper reports part of a comprehensive research study conducted at the University of Queensland on the ability of CFRP web-bonded systems in strengthening an exterior beam-column joint subjected to monotonic loads. One 1/2.2 scaled plain and four CFRP repaired/retrofitted joints subjected to monotonic loads were analysed using the nonlinear finite-element program ANSYS and the results were calibrated against experiments. The ANSYS model was employed in order to account for tension stiffening in concrete after cracking and a modified version of the Hognestad's model was used to model the concrete compressive strength. The stress-strain properties of main steel bars were modelled using multilinear isotropic hardening model and the FRPs were modelled as anisotropic materials. A perfect bond was assumed as nodes were shared between adjacent elements irrespective of their type. Good agreement between the numerical predictions and the experimental observation of the failure mechanisms for all specimens were observed. Closeness of these results proved that the numerical analysis can be used by design engineers for the analysis of web-bonded FRP strengthened beam-column joints with confidence.

  • In this research, a continuous roll-to-roll screen printing system was developed using a flat screen. It has a newly devised sliding mechanism of screen printing module, which can be controlled accurately in sync with a moving web, driven by a roll-to-roll tension control and web-guiding system. In addition, the real-time precision alignment module that consists of a vision camera and an $X-Y-{\theta}$ alignment stage was implemented. With this developed system, the feasibility of continuous printing with minimum pattern width below $60{\mu}m$ was verified, and an overlay of ${\pm}60{\mu}m$ between the laser-patterned reference mark and the printed mark on a 300-mm-wide film was achieved.

  • Roll-to-roll process is an emerging mass production method for printed and flexible electronics such as touch screen panel, RFID tag, thin film solar cell, and flexible display due to its high throughput. High precision in printing and coating is required to apply functional materials onto substrate. For such reason, every part of the roll-to-roll equipment needs to be precisely fabricated and to retain its precision under regular operation. In this article, the precision of cantilever type idler roller and a novel method to mitigate its deflection under web tension loading are discussed and the method is verified using both the numerical and the experimental works. The proposed method improves the structural rigidity of cantilever type roller whose advantages, such as low capital cost and high web path configurability, are maintained.

  • It is well known that axial tension decreases the shear strength of RC & PSC beams without transverse reinforcement, and axial compression increases the shear resistance. What is perhaps not very well understood is how much the shear resistance capacity is influenced by axial load. RC beams without shear reinforcement subjected to large axial compression and shear may fail in a very brittle manner at the instance of first diagonal cracking. As a result, a conservative approach should be used for such members. According to the ACI Code, the shear strength in web is calculated by effect of axial force and the vertical force in the stirrups calculated by $45^{\circ}$ truss model. This study was performed to examine the effect of axial force in reinforced concrete beams by nonlinear FEM program (ATENA-2D).

  • A simple method of on-line stiffness measurement using the wrinkling behavior of paper web between rollers was presented. The theory and calculating equation were presented, and lab experiment was executed. We called the stiffness measured by Taber tester as 'Taber stiffness', and by tension wrinkling measurement as 'wrinkle stiffness', respectively, for comparison. Lab experimental results showed Taber and wrinkle stiffness are almost equivalent. We expect this method will work porperly for the on-line measurement of paper stiffness in near future.

  • This paper presents a model for evaluating the contribution by arch action and frame action to shear resistance in shear-critical reinforced concrete beams without stirrup. The rotating angle softened truss model is employed to calculate the shear deformation of the web and the relative axial displacement of the compression and tension chord by the shear flow are also calculated. From this shear compatibility condition in a beam, the shear contribution by the arch action is numerically decoupled. The transverse strain obtained from the proposed model is selected for shear failure criterion. Using the failure criterion, shear strength of RC slender beams without stirrup is predicted.
