  • Objectives: To establish a system for integrated risk assessment of EDCs in Korea, infrastructure for providing toxicity data of ecological media should be established. Some systems provide soil ecotoxicity databases along with aquatic ecotoxicity information, but a well-structured ecotoxicity database system is still lacking. Methods: Aquatic and soil ecotoxicological information were collected by a toxicologist based on a human readable data (HRD) format for collecting ecotoxicity data that we provided. Among these data, anomalies were removed according to database normalization theory. Also, the data were cleaned and encoded to establish a machine-readable data (MRD) ecotoxicity database system. Results: We have developed a multi-purpose ecotoxicity database model focusing on EDCs, ecological species, and toxic effects. Also, we have constructed a web-based data searching system to retrieve, extract, and download data with greater availability. Conclusions: The results of our study will contribute to decision-making as a tool for efficient ecological risk assessment of EDCs in Korea.

  • We present an openfree hypertext (also known as wiki) web cluster called BioCC. BioCC is a novel wiki farm that lets researchers create hundreds of biological web sites. The web sites form an organic information network. The contents of all the sites on the BioCC wiki farm are modifiable by anonymous as well as registered users. This enables biologists with diverse backgrounds to form their own Internet bio-communities. Each community can have custom-made layouts for information, discussion, and knowledge exchange. BioCC aims to form an ever-expanding network of openfree biological knowledge databases used and maintained by biological experts, students, and general users. The philosophy behind BioCC is that the formation of biological knowledge is best achieved by open-minded individuals freely exchanging information. In the near future, the amount of genomic information will have flooded society. BioGG can be an effective and quickly updated knowledge database system. BioCC uses an opensource wiki system called Mediawiki. However, for easier editing, a modified version of Mediawiki, called Biowiki, has been applied. Unlike Mediawiki, Biowiki uses a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) text editor. BioCC is under a share-alike license called BioLicense (http://biolicense.org). The BioCC top level site is found at http://bio.cc/

  • According to the widespread use of ontology documents, a management system which store ontology data and process queries is needed for retrieving semantic information efficiently. In this paper I propose a storage schema that stores and retrieves semantic web documents based on RDF/RDFS ontology language developed by W3C in a relational databases. Specially, the proposed storage schema is designed to retrieve efficiently hierarchy information and to increase efficiency of query processing. Also, I describe a mechanism to transform RQL semantic queries to SQL relational queries and build up database using MS-ACCESS and implement in this paper. According to the result of implementation, we can blow that not only data query based on triple model but also query for schema and hierarchy information are transformed simply to SQL.

  • The purpose of this research lies in exploring both problems in and solutions for developing digital information resource such as e-journal and Web databases, with the case of Korean national university libraries. In details, identified at the first hand is current situations and major changes of digital information resource that Korean university libraries have developed for the recent 10 years(2003~2012). Also investigated is the salient features in the process of selecting and acquiring digital information resource, with emphasis on the work behavioral aspects. In addition this study analyzes the negative impacts which the present digital-centered resource development policy might have on the image of university libraries and the status of academic librarianship in Korea. The final suggestions include both strategies at the national level and practical methods at the library level which might be helpful to escape from the dilemma related to developing digital information resource.

  • In accordance with the completion of the spatial database building works in the central and/or local government authorities as well as the rapid popularization of various information services through internet, it is heavily required to provide spatial information services through World Wide Web. To provide a qualified spatial information service, it is crucial to have a Web-based GIS (Geographic Information Service) service system equipped with the publicity, the convenient accessibility, and the easy-to-use user interface. In this paper, we introduce a new component system for Web-based spatial information services based on the OpenGIS Simple Feature specification for OLE/COM[3] and OLE DB specification[4]. The important functionality of a Web-based spatial information service system includes its accessibility of various existing GIS server system and huge databases in addition to the resolution of response-time delay problems caused by transmitting a large amount of digital maps via internet[6]. To cope with these problems, our component system has been designed to access heterogeneous databases in transparent manner and to support vector-based and/or image-based image production techniques for shortening transmission time.

  • The Web Ontology Language (OWL) has become the W3C recommendation for publishing and sharing ontologies on the Semantic Web. To derive hidden information from OWL data, a number of OWL reasoners have been proposed. Since OWL reasoners are memory-based, they cannot handle large-sized OWL data. To overcome the scalability problem, RDBMS-based systems have been proposed. These systems store OWL data into a database and perform reasoning by incorporating the use of a database. However, they do not consider complete reasoning on all types of properties defined in OWL and the database schemas they use are ineffective for reasoning. In addition, they do not manage updates to the OWL data which can occur frequently in real applications. In this paper, we compare various database schemas used by RDBMS-based systems and propose an improved schema for efficient reasoning. Also, to support reasoning for all the types of properties defined in OWL, we propose a complete and efficient reasoning algorithm. Furthermore, we suggest efficient approaches to managing the updates that may occur on OWL data. Experimental results show that our schema has improved performance in OWL data storage and reasoning, and that our approaches to managing updates to OWL data are more efficient than the existing approaches.

  • In recent years, the web services composition search has become an issue of great interest. The web services composition search is the process of integrating individual web services to yield desired behavior. Through the web services composition search, more sophisticated functionalities can be provided. Current solutions can be classified into three main classes: forward chaining approach, backward chaining approach and two-phase approach. However one-way chaining approaches, such as forward chaining approach and backward chaining approach have limitations of searching irrelevant web services. And two-phase approach has limitations of including redundant web services. In this paper, we propose an unredundant web services composition search based on the two-phase algorithm. The algorithm consists of a forward phase and a backward phase. In the forward phase, the candidate web services participating composition will be found efficiently by searching the Link Index. In the backward phase, unredundant web services compositions will be generated from candidate web services by using the Token Manager. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm is more efficient than one-way chaining approaches. The experimental results also show that our algorithm can provide more solutions than previous two-phase approach and is comparable to previous one in execution time.

  • In this paper, we propose an architecture for geosemantic services. With the rapid progress of web services, wireless internet technologies and popularization of smart phone in recent years, a lot of applications based on geographic information are being developed. Moreover the search portals empowered by semantic web technologies are enabling general users to access on-line resources more easily. However, several studies in GIS domain have pointed out the practical limitation of existing service patterns, which are limited only to linking heterogenous spatial databases, insufficient for several important use cases. Hence we draw functional elements of geosemantic services from GIS and semantic web standards, and present the use cases and a new architecture for geosemantic services. This approach could set a foundation to implement geoemantic services.

  • Since current HTML used on the internet is to use restricted tag, it is not easy to store information and extract data from information of document. XML defined newly tag and is easy to store information and extract data from information. So XML is easier to transact information rather than HTML. XML is suitable for enterprise's requirement needs data exchange between heterogeneous databases. This paper proposes web agent for data replication between heterogeneous DBMSs(Database Management System). Web agent system maneges database on the web and exchange data in heterogeneous database using XML. Then we designed and implemented for web agent of data replication between heterogeneous DBMSs.
