Web Accessibility Evaluation of Cultural Contents in Korea (국내 문화콘텐츠의 웹 접근성 평가)

  • Cultural contents should provide all the people web services to ensure accessibility without any obstacles as a core resource of nation including a code linking people and people beyond time and space. This study achieved that automated measure including 11 checkpoints and manual analysis including 11 criteria and 26 checkpoints of three areas in selected five web sites such as Culture Portal. Art Road, Korean Patterns, MFM, and e-Museum supported by Ministry of Culture & Tourism. As a result, web accessibility level of cultural contents analyzed it staying at the beginning level. This study Provided the directions in order to improve accessibility of cultural contents through showing real cases to practice for improving web accessibility.

  • As Internet advances, websites with simpel HTML pages are changing to complex web application systems with enormous contents and various services. With this trend, it is noted that situations where Web accessibility of the old and the handicapped is inhibited are growing. To solve this problem, The Disability Discrimination Act has been enacted since April 2013. This act triggers massive website reorganization efforts. However, in order for the huge and sophisticated web applications and web sites to ensure a web accessibility, a framework is required to throughout the web site development. Based on thorough review of website development methodologies, web accessibility compliance standards, and various web accessibility issues related to website characteristics, this study proposes a practice oriented "Web Accessibility Compliance Framework". The current study also examines the usefulness and value of this framework by applying it to the internet banking development project of W bank and receiving a certificate for high quality website complying web accessibility standards.

  • Internet Website has become part of daily life. The public library tends to use the website for the information service and the public relations as well. This study aims to evaluate the Web Accessibility for improving universal services in five public libraries website, Seoul Area. Accessibility testing are used two method, that is A-Prompt analysis and HTML Validation Evaluation. The results of evaluation showed that they have been in error. Finally this study well be used for web accessibility in library website.

  • Understanding the importance of web accessibility as the solution for digital divide, this study recognizes the problem that existing web accessibility researches have been conducted only by governmental administrative organizations and the accessibility researches of web service that is frequently used in every day life are rare. For the research on the actual condition of web-accessability, this study selected the e-mail service of the representative web-service providers - Daum, Naver, and Empas. Through this evaluation research, this study is intended to present a way to provide convenient and efficient service for those who have been alienated from information. For the accessibility evaluation, the automation evaluation tool "KADO-WAH 2.0" was used. And then, source analysis and manual evaluation using Firefox were conducted to see if 'web contents accessibility guideline 1.0' had been kept.

Web Accessibility Comparison between Handicapped Person Related Web Sites and School Web Sites (장애인 관련 웹 사이트와 학교 웹 사이트의 웹 접근성 비교)

  • Importance of Web accessability for handicapped persons is ever increasing in the information society with increasing role of the Web. The Web accessibility of handicapped person related Web sites were compared with the school Web sites in order to figure out the realities of handicapped person related Web site's accessibilities. According to the experiment, the Web accessibility of handicapped person related Web sites got lower scores than general school Web sites. The research result shows that more improvement efforts for the Web accessibility of handicapped person related Web sites are required.

An Application Scheme and Comparison for the Education Homepage By the Web Accessability Guidelines (웹 접근성 지침에 의한 교육용 홈페이지의 적용 방안 및 비교 분석)

  • In recent years, the efforts for standards of Web contents accessibility and the improvements of Web accessibility are expanded in the government, enterprises, and public institutions. In this paper, we examine the Korean Web contents accessibility guidelines, and propose the evaluation scheme for the education homepage by the Web accessibility guidelines using KADO-WAH program which is the evaluation tool for Web accessibility. Also, we propose the improvement scheme for education homepage by modifying the error and warning clauses directed in which are appeared in the evaluation report. And, we evaluate the various education homepages using KADO-WAH, and analyze the comparisons for the Web accessibility guidelines among the education homepages.

  • Recently, sudden interests of mobile cloud computing as well as conventional internet environment are rapidly increased as cloud computing spread out in our web society. Mobile devices including smart phone are rapidly changing in a wholesale way that covers hardwares, applications, and services. However, the Internet access using mobile device is not quite smooth in this local mobile internet environment which suffers from lack of understanding and observance of Web Standards. Although most of domestic web sites are developed focusing on various functions and eye-catching designs, this should became one of the main factors that make the usability and accessability decrease when accessing web with smart phones or table PCs. Therefore, this paper suggested a web interface that considered usability and accessability under mobile cloud environment and we tried to prove it via usability test. It could be found that there was an improvement of usability of interface of the main page that has been optimized to the mobile device environment suggested from the previous research we present, but this paper aimed to prove a usability improvement of total website as a whole by performing the usability test on the entire website. Selecting a special website optimized for mobile cloud computing, we prove an improvement of usability and accessibility. Therefore, we offer a guideline about user interface design applications to developers or companies who want to construct mobile website.

A Study of Developing the Ubiquitous Library for the Improvement of Information Accessability of the Blind (시각 장애인의 정보접근성 향상을 위한 유비쿼터스 도서관 구축에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, a digital divide has gotten worse in the information age. So LG Sangnam library developed the ubiquitous library for the improvement of information accessability of the blind. It utilizes a mobile phone applied with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and automates a user's identification process and serve library services at anytime from anywhere. Users can use three access points of a web service, a mobile service and a telephone library service. As a conclusion of this paper. Several recommendations were proposed. For the development of ubiquitous library, various instruments should be considered to diversify user's access points and a usability test and analysis about user's environmental context should be done simultaneously.

  • 최근 인터넷 웹 콘텐츠의 접근성에 대한 표준화의 준수와 웹 접근성 향상을 위한 노력이 정부와 공공기관 그리고 기업까지 확산되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 한국형 인터넷 웹 접근성 지침에 대하여 살펴보고, 웹 접근성 평가도구인 KADO-WAH 프로그램을 다운 받아서 프로그램을 활용하고 일선 학교에서 적용할 수 있는 방안을 제시한다. 또한, 웹 접근성 평가 도구를 활용하여 교육 관련 홈페이지를 웹 콘텐츠 접근성 지침에 따라서 평가하는 방안을 제시한다. 평가 결과에 따라 나타나는 검사 항목 통계 보고서를 토대로 웹 접근성 준수 여부를 분석한다. 마지막으로, 평가 결과 나타난 오류와 경고 항목을 평가보고서에서 요구하는 방향으로 수정하여 교육용 홈페이지의 웹 접근성을 향상시키는 방안을 제안한다.

  • 최근 인터넷 웹 콘텐츠의 접근성에 대한 표준화의 준수와 웹 접근성 향상을 위한 노력이 정부, 공공기관, 기업까지 확산되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 웹 접근성 표준 지침에 패하여 알아보고, 표준 지침별 평가 항목에 대하여 비교 분석한다. 또한, 웹 접근성 인증 기준에 의한 중요도에 대해서도 분석한다. 그리고 웹 접근성 평가도구인 KADO-WAH 프로그램을 활용하여 교육 관련 홈페이지를 웹 콘텐츠 접근성 지침에 따라 지침별 준수율을 비교 분석한다.
