According to recent government's 3.0 operating paradigm for the opening and sharing of public information, relationship between humidity, temperature and fire occurrence were analyzed using the data in National Weather Service and National Emergency Management Agency. In order to analyze the relationships between humidity, temperature and fire occurrence, hourly frequency of fire occurrence compared with humidity and temperature ranges was suggested as an analysis method. Tendencies of fire occurrence frequencies were examined through this and characteristics of detailed attributes could be statistically identified. Results about hourly frequencies of fire occurrence by classifying the humidity ranges in each region showed increasing frequencies in all areas where the humidity is lower. Hourly frequencies of fire occurrence according to temperature ranges were identified to be similar in each area as well. In addition, characteristics of objects' attributes were analyzed including types of fire, igniting source of fire, initial complex, reasons of fire occurrence, and distinctive directions were suggested. Suggested method in this paper could be practically used when suggesting the frequency in each category in fire occurrence statistics of National Fire Information System.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) regularly provides the eight-day gross primary productivity (GPP) at 1 km resolution. In this study, we evaluated the uncertainties of MODIS GPP caused by errors associated with the Data Assimilation Office (DAO) meteorology and a biophysical variable (fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation, FPAR). In order to recalculate the improved GPP estimate, we employed ground weather station data and reconstructed cloud-free FPAR. The official MODIS GPP was evaluated as +17% higher than the improved GPP. The error associated with DAO meteorology was identified as the primary and the error from the cloud-contaminated FPAR as the secondary constituent in the integrative uncertainty. Among various biome types, the highest relative error of the official MODIS GPP to the improved GPP was found in the mixed forest biome with RE of 20% and the smallest errors were shown in crop land cover at 11%. Our results indicated that the uncertainty embedded in the official MODIS GPP product was considerable, indicating that the MODIS GPP needs to be reconstructed with the improved input data of daily surface meteorology and cloud-free FPAR in order to accurately monitor vegetation productivity in Korea.
Recently, bridge construction technology has made great progress from development of high performance materials and new bridge types. However, most technology are based on methods of cast-in-place and material cost saving. The method of cast-in-place concrete causes environmental damages and costumer complaints. Especially, under bad weather conditions, the construction can not proceed. To overcome these disadvantages, new construction methods were developed to reduce construction time. These methods are called precast method. Most prefabricated methods have been applied to superstructure constructions of bridges, but very minutely applied to substructure constructions. The most important agendas on precast method are light weight and transportability of the precasted members, because very strict transporting specifications exist for road transportation of the precasted members. For example, the weight and length of coping members may be larger than the available transporting vehicles. Although column is constructed by precast method to save construction time, if coping member is constructed by cast-in-place method, then the column construction time reduction becomes meaningless. Therefore, in this study, a new precast coping member and a connecting system of column-coping member are proposed. The proposed method is verified by analyzing their ultimate performance through analysis and experimental study.

On a curve radius, there is speed deviation because a driver who is on the curve radius can have visual distortion. The curve radius can be more dangerous than a straight radius by many reasons. Especially, visibility paralysis of delineator that is because of night and bad weather. Can pervert the information about curve sections, it threatens safety. More over accident risk is increased by influence to travel speed. Therefore, it needs to build and control delineators for driver's visibility. Therefore, this study focus on finding the two types of delineator(the retro-reflection and inside-lighting delineator) by insight-surveying and the operating speed are compared by survey and operating speed. Finally, inside-lighting delineator will be selected in terms of safety at the curve sections. The inside-lighting delineator was more effective than the retro-reflection delineator on visibility, the necessity of reduction of speed and will reduce the hazard at curve sections. Also, the study analyzes safety is guaranteed by the slight reduction of speed when the driver enters a curve radius with inside-lighting delineator. As a result, the inside-lighting delineator can give the information about horizontal and vertical profile effectively, so it can reduce the accident risk. And it can use to improve traffic safety on curve radius.
The objective of this study was to experimentally investigate the effect of heat curing methods on the temperature history and strength development of slab concrete exposed to $-10^{\circ}C$. The goal was to determine proper heat curing methods for the protection of nuclear power plant structures against early-age frost damage under adverse (cold) conditions. Two types of methods were studied: heat insulation alone and in combination with a heating cable. For heat curing with heat insulation alone, either sawdust or a double layer bubble sheet (2-BS) was applied. For curing with a combination of heat insulation and a heating cable, an embedded heating cable was used with either a sawdust cover, a 2-BS cover, or a quadruple layer bubble sheet (4-BS) cover. Seven different slab specimens with dimensions of $1200{\times}600{\times}200$ mm and a design strength of 27 MPa were fabricated and cured at $-10^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. The application of sawdust and 2-BS allowed the concrete temperature to fall below $0^{\circ}C$ within 40 h after exposure to $-10^{\circ}C$, and then, the temperature dropped to $-10^{\circ}C$ and remained there for 7 d owing to insufficient thermal resistance. However, the combination of a heating cable plus sawdust or 2-BS maintained the concrete temperature around $5^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. Moreover, the combination of the heating cable and 4-BS maintained the concrete temperature around $10^{\circ}C$ for 7 d. This was due to the continuous heat supply from the heating cable and the prevention of heat loss by the 4-BS. For maturity development, which is an index of early-age frost damage, the application of heat insulation materials alone did not allow the concrete to meet the minimum maturity required to protect against early-age frost damage after 7 d, owing to poor thermal resistance. However, the combination of the heating cable and the heat insulating materials allowed the concrete to attain the minimum maturity level after just 3 d. In the case of strength development, the heat insulation materials alone were insufficient to achieve the minimum 7-d strength required to prevent early-age frost damage. However, the combination of a heating cable and heat insulating materials met both the minimum 7-d strength and the 28-d design strength owing to the heat supply and thermal resistance. Therefore, it is believed that by combining a heating cable and 4-BS, concrete exposed to $-10^{\circ}C$ can be effectively protected from early-age frost damage and can attain the required 28-d compressive strength.
Objectives: This paper aims to investigate the seasonal deposition characteristics of water-soluble ion species by comparing the deposition amount of two samples taken according to different sampling methods of deposition for ambient aerosol such as gases and particulate matters. Methods: Deposition samples were collected using two deposition gauges in the downtown area of Iksan City over approximately two weeks of each season in 2004. The type of deposition gauges consisted of two different sampling methods known as dry gauge and a wet gauge. The dry gauge was empty and used a dry PE bottle with an inlet diameter of 9.6 cm. Before the beginning of each deposition sampling, a volume of 30-50 ml distilled ionized water was added to the wet gauge to wet the bottom during the sampling period. Deposition samples were measured twice per day and analyzed for inorganic water-soluble ion species using ion chromatography. Results: The daily deposition amounts of all measured ions in the dry gauge and the wet gauge showed a significant increase when precipitation occurred, having no difference of deposition amount between in the wet gauge and in the dry gauge. By excluding two samples from rainy days during the sampling period, the mean daily deposition of all ions in dry gauge and wet gauge were $6.58mg/m^2/day$ and $18.16mg/m^2/day$, respectively. The mean deposition amounts of each ion species were higher in the wet gauge than in the dry gauge because of the surface difference of the sampling gauge, especially for $NH_4{^+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$. The mean deposition amounts of $NH_4{^+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$ in the wet gauge were found to be about 15.4 times and 5.2 times higher than that in dry gauge, with a pronounced difference between spring and summer, while the remaining ion species were 1.1-2.0 times higher in the wet gauge than in the dry gauge. Dominant species in the dry gauge were $Ca^{2+}$ and $NO_3{^-}$, accounting for 36.4% and 18.1% of the total ion deposition, whereas those in the wet gauge were $NH_4{^+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$, accounting for 32.5% and 25.0% of the total ion deposition, respectively. Conclusion: The seasonal differences in deposition amounts of water-soluble ion species in ambient aerosol depending on the two types of different sampling methods were identified. This suggests that the removal of ambient aerosol is strongly influenced by the weather conditions of each season as well as the condition of earth's surface, such as dry ground and water.
SEEMP (Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan) guidelines for a ship's GHG reduction include a machinery modification of hull, an installation of energy efficiency enhanced attachment in hardware methods. It is also possible to bring a ship energy efficiency improvement by fuel-efficient operations or in other software methods. Hardware modification or installation on ship can bring financial burdens to a ship company compared to its improvement expectation. On the other hand, Software based energy-saving technology can be applicable on various ship types, and it is also expected high efficiency of ship energy use compared to hardware based technology in perspective of the investment costs and efficiency. In this paper, it is described that the ship handling simulator based evaluation was carried out using representative ship model of bulk, container and VLCC. Simulation environments were separated into 6 conditions according to the sea-state and weather condition, and the operation results were compared with those before and after energy saving system applied The container ship showed the largest FOC save rate after energy saving system applied although the others also showed energy save rate after using the system.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the scientific basic grounds for the assessment of health and environmental diseases resulting from air pollutants in Pohang. For this study, we investigated pollutants, weather characteristics and concentration distribution of fine particles ($PM_10$) yearly and each season, using data from Air Quality Monitoring Stations. The properties of concentration distribution and seasonal fluctuation of $PM_10$ were studied qualitatively and quantitatively using CALPUFF, air dispersion model. The average concentration of $PM_10$ for each season was spring($75.7{\mu}g/m^3$)>summer($56.8{\mu}g/m^3$)>winter($53.6{\mu}g/m^3$)>fall( $52.7{\mu}g/m^3$). In the case of spring, high concentrations appear due to the Asian dust frequently occurring. The contributions of $PM_10$ classified by the types of pollution source in Pohang were point source 62%>mobile source 33%>area source 5%. An important point is that 97% of emissions were produced from the iron manufacture in steel industry. Therefore, it is necessary to control the emission sources of pollutants and to construct an observation system at Pohang steel industrial complex from now on. It’s time to control the risk factors for health and environmental disease to protect the health of resident in Pohang and its neighboring areas.
In recent times, sea level increasing caused by abnormal weather and global warming, sea-sand dredging and complex development causes various kind of erosion damages onto the coastal area in the world. The various types of erosion control and protection methods are applied but there are no signs of fruitful effectiveness. The PC concrete protection block for shore protection structure is practically installed in globally but most of structures in the present day became villainous because of bad accessability. In this study, hydrophilic revetments for control and protection of coastline erosion will be developed in order to make up for a faculty of the shore erosion protection block with better accessibility and excellent protection ability. Experimental measurements were researched to insure for the capacity and facility on reflection coefficient, overtopping volume, and overtopping height characteristics of newly developed shore erosion protection block in model tests. As the result, hydraulic model tests show much excellent than the general step block. Field tests were carried out also to verify through vegetative test on an affinity and construction work test of control-protection on coastline erosion with actual utilization. In the latter case, deposition of sand accumulation occurred in fairly short time at the established reaches and then we can be confirmed to utilize for newly developed block as the revetments for control and protection of coastline erosion.
Six pig farms were surveyed to measure the odor concentrations and characteristics of ammonia and sulfide corollary compounds in piggery. They were depended on the scale of piggery, weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, scales and types of pig breeding, and manure treatment methods. The highest ammonia concentrations in piggery were measured during the winter, since the tight sealed insulation in piggery made less amount of generated ammonia discharged from piggery. The objective of this study was to measure concentrations of odor in the piggery by season and growing, and to measure concentrations of odor at boundary area. So, we investigated the raising managements, manure managements, and methods of reducing odor according to farm scale. We found that concentration of ammonia gas in the swine fattening piggery in winter was the highest. This result is consistent with the lower ventilation rate to maintain Indoor temperature. In this result, there was no connection between farm scale and ventilating system. Concentration of ammonia gas was 1.64 ppm at one boundary area in the middle scale. $H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, $(CH_3)_2S$, and $(CH_3)_2S_2$ were below the standard of protection odor policy.
