  • This study analyzed the effects of skinny jean on women's health by questionnaire survey and measuring the pressure experienced under the clothing and participants' subjective view of the pressure level. The average size women in their 20s' waists is 26 inches and so three pairs of jeans were prepared and worn by 4 female participants. A survey was conducted to investigate how often participants wear skinny jeans and whether they had had any feelings of discomfort as a result of this. Participants responded that they hadexperienced middle to high levels of discomfort due to the high pressure inside skinny jeans. For the maximum value of clothing pressures, jean f2 at the part of buttocks showed $48.7gf/cm^2$. The pressure inside the clothing was found to be highest around the buttocks followed by the knees and finally the belly. The mean values of 7 measuring parts are different according to the jean type; f3 $20.8gf/cm^2$ > f2 $16.4gf/cm^2$ > f1 $15.5gf/cm^2$, which is corresponding to the order of pressure sensation, but not corresponding to the order of ease amount of clothing pattern: f2 > f3 > f1. Mean pressure values were also measured according to the body posture: they were found to by highest when sitting on a chair (21.3gf/$cm^2$), second highest when sitting on the floor ($19.2gf/cm^2$) and lowest when standing ($15.0gf/cm^2$). This is not always same to the order of participants subjective perceptions of the pressure, which is, they estimated pressure to be highest when sitting on the floor followed by sitting on a chair and lowest in a standing position.

  • NAND flash memory has advantages of non-volatility, little power consumption and fast access time. However, it suffers from inability that dose not provide to update-in-place and the erase cycle is limited. Moreover, the unit of read and write operations is a page. A NAND flash file system called YAFFS has been proposed. But YAFFS has several problems to be addressed. In this paper, the Reliable Flash File System(RFFS) for NAND flash memory is designed and evaluated. In designing a file system the following four issues must be considered in particular for the design: (i) to minimize a repairing time when the system fault occurs, (ii) to balance the number of block erase operations by offering wear leveling policy, and (iii) to reduce turnaround time of memory operations by reducing the amount of data written. We demonstrate and evaluate the performance of the proposed schemes.

  • Introduction: Limited mouth opening is a representative clinical symptom of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) with anterior disc displacement without reduction (ADDWOR). Various treatment methods have been proposed for patients with ADDWOR. This study examined the clinical effectiveness of template therapy for patients with mouth opening difficulty due to the ADDWOR. Material and Methods: A total of 14 patients (female 12, male 2, average age: $29.1{\pm}14.4$), who had been treated in the template clinic, Sooncheonhyang University Bucheon Hospital, from January of 2006 to December of 2008, were enrolled in this study. The subjects were selected according to the following criteria: more than 2 weeks after the onset of locking, mouth opening range <35 mm, and confirmed ADDWOR without a synovial pathology by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). All patients were treated with the template appliance, instructed to wear it while sleeping and exercise for at least 10 hours per day. The maximum mouth opening (MMO) range and pain recognition scores before and after template therapy were recorded and compared. A paired t-test and Wilcoxon's signed rank test were used for statistical analysis. Results: After the periodical follow up, significant improvement in the opening range was observed in the template treatment group. The average MMO range before treatment was $30.2{\pm}3.5mm$ and the average MMO after treatment and follow up was $47.1{\pm}4.7mm$. The mean amount of mouth opening increment was $16.9{\pm}5.4mm$ (P<0.01) and the pain recognition scores before and after treatment was also improved.(P=0.001) Conclusion: The template appliance proved to be efficient for the treatment of TMD with a closed lock and painful joint due to ADDWOR.

  • Although not all kinds of deep bite occlusions are considered pathological states, they can cause persistent wear and eruption of the anterior mandibular teeth if the anterior occlusal contact is unstable or accompanied by an occlusal disharmony. The patient was a 72-year-old man with no occlusal contact of the remaining anterior teeth in the centric relation position because of a skeletal class II malocclusion and loss of occlusal support. If the vertical dimension needs to be increased for prosthetic restoration in a patient with a deep bite, the amount of vertical dimension increase must be determined through precise diagnosis. This is because the overjet may increase and cause an unstable occlusion. In this review, we report the case of a patient with a stable occlusion and good treatment results achieved by using a removable partial denture prosthesis and applying the Dahl concept.

  • Since radon is an inert gas and is a monoatomic molecule, the size of one particle represents the size of an atom, which means that it has a radius of approximately 1 to 100 nm. Therefore, if the mask has a radius smaller than the size of general fine dust and ultra fine dust, but it is possible to block the inhalation of radon more than a certain amount, it is considered that the exposure through the inhalation of radon can be reduced through normal indoor wear. Accordingly, we would like to find out the radon blocking effect of a mask worn in everyday life. Looking at the reduction rate of radon for each mask, cotton masks decreased by 33.45%, medical masks by 33.50%, KF 80 masks by 35.12%, and KF 94 masks by 37.72%. It was found that the radon blocking effect of the cotton and medical masks was somewhat inferior to that of the KF mask, but the difference was not so great that the introduction of radon into the air could be blocked to a certain level by wearing a mask.

  • Friction materials for brake linings and clutches have severe performance requirements. The principal function of such frictional elements is to convert kinetic energy to heat, and then either to absorb or to dissipate heat. In order to achieve these objectives, the coefficient of friction must be as high as possible, independent of variations in operating conditions, and the necessary energy conversion must be accomplished with a minimum of wear on the contacting parts. In this study, Al powder, Al bronze powder and Mo powder used in general for automobile brake was sprayed on automobile brake disc to restrain rust and to maintain friction performance. Dynamo and corrosion tests have been carried out. It is concluded that the sprayed disc with Al bronze powder has the most improved frictional performance and anti-corrosive characteristics. The main results obtained can be summarized as follows; 1. From the corrosion current density test for gray cast iron and sprayed disc with powders of Al, Al bronze and Mo, it was cleared that the spray treatment with Al bronze powder showed the most superior anti-corrosive characteristics than other powders. 2. By anode polarization toward the noble direction from corrosion potential, corrosion current density with sprayed brake disc by Al-bronze powder was the lowest. 3. Mean frictional coefficients obtained from dynamo test are as follows : the sprayed disc with Al(99.99%) powder was 0.190 ; the sprayed disc with Al-bronze powder was 0.312 ; the sprayed disc with Mo powder was 0.257 ; the non-sprayed disc of gray cast iron was 0.331. In the case of the sprayed disc Al-bronze powder showed the most excellent frictional characteristics . 4. Amount of burnish quantity obtained from burnish test by dynamometer is as follows : the sprayed disc with Al-powder was 1.079 mm : the sprayed disc with Al-bronze powder was 0.155 mm : the sprayed disc with Mo powder was 0.253 mm : the non-sprayed disc of gray cast iron was 0.241 mm. Al-bronze powder also showed the most excellent burnish characteristics.

  • This study aims to contribute to the development of sports wearables. It was conducted by a convergence team of professionals in the fashion industry, kinesiology and sports studies, and computer science and engineering. The purpose of the current study was to design and develop a fabric-type fitness band for a sensor to measure acceleration during jump rope exercises. Computer science and engineering professionals developed the Arduino board and sensor, kinesiology and sports studies provided the necessary exercise protocol, and the fashion industry professionals developed the band. First, a fitness band preference survey was completed by men and women between the ages of 20 and 50. Typical uses of the band included tracking exercise amount as measured by the number of steps taken and calories burned. Strap watch closure, a single color and achromatic color, and soft and smooth touch materials were preferred as band design. Second, two fabric-type fitness bands were designed and developed. Design 1 had a 3-dimensional pocket for the sensor, bright blue color, and stretch binding around the edges and for a loop. Design 2 had a flat pocket for the sensor, achromatic color, mesh binding around the edges and two metal loops. Both designs had Velcro as a closure. Third, wear testing of both bands with the sensor were conducted of 15 women in their 20s. They wore the bands during jump rope exercises. Both bands generally satisfied the participants. The Design 2 band was slightly more satisfying than the Design 1 band.

  • The frequency dependency of the Rayleigh surface wave was investigated indirectly by measuring the angular dependency of the backward radiation of the incident ultrasonic wave in the abrasion specimens, which was explained in view of the residual stress distribution. The peak intensity of the backward radiation profile decreased and the right half width of the profile increased with an increase of the variational rate of residual stress for the scuffing specimen. The peak intensity was also affected by the surface wave scattering during the propagation around the micro-damages. The peak angle might depend on not only the amount of residual stress but also the micro-structure. The result observed in this study demonstrates the high potential of the backward radiated ultrasound as a tool for the nondestructive evaluation of the subsurface gradients of materials.

  • The flow characteristics of rectangular and 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 trapezoidal weirs were investigated through hydraulic experiments in order calculate the exact overflow discharge of the broad-crested side weir. The flow was found to be most stable in trapezoidal shapes with the lowest incline. The 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 trapezoidal weirs had 5.67% and 8.57% increases, respectively, compared to the rectangular weir in terms of overflow amount, which suggests that they are more effective in preventing flood. An integrated discharge coefficient equation taking into account the discharge coefficient equation and shapes was proposed through a multiple linear regression analysis with an addition of a new parameter for the side wear, $L/L_H$, to the conventional discharge coefficient equation. Also, the applicability of the newly proposed discharge coefficient equation was reviewed by comparing the measured and calculated overflow amounts based on the experimental data of preceding researches and existing researchers and the research data of this study.

  • This study presents the effect of applied pressure on the preform deformation during squeeze casting of $Al_2O_3$ short fiber reinforced aluminum alloy (AC8A) metal matrix composites. A preliminary model based on the general beam theory is suggested for the prediction of the preform deformation. Two different commercially available $Al_2O_3$ short fiber (Saffil, Kaowool) were used to study the influence of the fibers on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the squeeze cast $Al/Al_2O_3$ composites. The composites were fabricated with the applied pressure of 75 MPa which was found to be the optimum condition for the squeeze casting of the composites in this study. For the amorphous Kaowool fiber, hard crystalline Mullite phase was formed with heat treatment. Both of amorphous and the crystallized Kaowool fibers were used to fabricate $Al/Al_2O_3$ composites. Microhardness of crystallized Kaowool fiber revealed higher than that of the amorphous Kaowool fiber in the squeeze cast composites. It was also found that the wear resistance of Kaowool fiber reinforced composites increased with the amount of Mullite.
