On board Weapon Control Unit for a military aircraft, as a core equipment of the Weapon Management System, generates signals for selective jettison, emergency jettison and rocket fire and controls the external stores according to a pilot's weapon selection, aircraft's flight status and external store's installation status. This paper describes about detail design process and performance evaluation for Weapon Control Unit developed by a sequence control circuit design methodology.

In this paper, we have proposed hardware and software architecture of a launch control unit for the compatibility between air defense weapon systems loaded on shipboard. Until now, there is no compatibility between weapon systems loaded in battleships of korean navy. In the case of HaeGung system recently completed the test and evaluations, although it will be deployed on several kinds of shipboards, it has no compatibility and flexibility with other air defense weapon systems. Recently it reports that a long range air defense weapon system will be carried on future korean destroyer KDDX. Because the HaeGung and a long range air defense system will be operated together in KDDX, it is necessary to provide the compatibility between two weapon systems. So we have proposed architecture to provide the compatibility of the launch control unit that controls the launching system and the missile interface unit, and the missile in each weapon systems.
A HILS(Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation) technique for an IR guided weapon is proposed. The IR HILS facility functions as a testing unit for a missile guidance and control system to evaluate target acquisition, tracking, and countermeasure performance. The configuration of IR HILS facility, modeling technique of an IR environment including target, background and countermeasure, and test and evaluation procedure are included.

The structure of the fire control system(FCS) of a light armed helicopter and effective logistics support was taken into account in the proposed common weapon interface module(CWIM) for a distributed FCS. The pros and cons of a distributed FCS and a centralized FCS were analyzed, then a CWIM which can be applied to the weapon interface module of a distributed FCS was designed and fabricated. Integration tests between the proposed CWIM and a weapon simulator were conducted to ascertain whether or not the proposed CWIM could be applicable to a distributed FCS. We expect that the CWIM design approach method secured through this study will be helpful in mitigating cable work of the FCS which will be applied to a Light Armed Helicopter and controlling various weapons.

A missile defense system is composed of radars detecting incoming missiles aiming at defense assets, command control units making the decisions on weapon target assignment, and artillery batteries firing of defensive weapons to the incoming missiles. Although, the technology behind the development of radars and weapons is very important, effective assignment of the weapons against missile threats is much more crucial. When incoming missile targets toward valuable assets in the defense area are detected, the asset-based weapon target assignment model addresses the issue of weapon assignment to these missiles so as to maximize the total value of surviving assets threatened by them. In this paper, we present a model for an asset-based weapon assignment problem with shoot-look-shoot engagement policy and fixed set-up time between each anti-missile launch from each defense unit. Then, we show detailed linear approximation process for nonlinear portions of the model and propose final linear approximation model. After that, the proposed model is applied to several ballistic missile defense scenarios. In each defense scenario, the number of incoming missiles, the speed and the position of each missile, the number of defense artillery battery, the number of anti-missile in each artillery battery, single shot kill probability of each weapon to each target, value of assets, the air defense coverage are given. After running lpSolveAPI package of R language with the given data in each scenario in a personal computer, we summarize its weapon target assignment results specified with launch order time for each artillery battery. We also show computer processing time to get the result for each scenario.
Currently under development is an airborne auxiliary power unit with 100 Kw equivalent power, which is composed of a centrifugal compressor, a reverse annular combustor, and a radial turbine. Air-foil bearings are used in this power unit to eliminate the oil supplying system, which can reduce the system complexity and weight. The high speed generator is adopted as an electric power generation and engine starting system, which can also eliminate the reduction gear system. Not only electric power but also pneumatic power is provided by bleeding the compressed air This power unit is aimed for the multi-purpose use such as a primary power unit In the army weapon system, an auxiliary power and environmental control unit in a next-generation tank, and a smoke generating unit.

An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack on a nuclear weapon or the airlift of an electronic bomb affects weapons systems, information devices, wired and wireless communication equipment, and power supply equipment. It can lead to confusion on the battlefield. The current standards for EMP protection when applied to the military are centered on fixed and mobile facilities and equipment. It is, however, important to study EMP protection for a single tactical unit centered on the weapon system. In this study, EMP protection standards were established for command and control, maneuvering and firepower systems vulnerable to EMPs, focusing on battle tanks with mobility, firepower, and shock force. Also, specific development plans for EMP protection capabilities are proposed, including the shielding and blocking of EMPs. Through the study, the Korean government intends to ensure a unit's command and control under an EMP attack as well as preserve the viability of a unit's personnel and guarantee the conditions for the execution of a mission.

This paper analyzes the limitations and provides alternative options for Korean Military LISI model, which is based on interoperability assessment model, LISI(Level of Information System Interoperability), developed for US defense information systems and reformed to suit the Korean Military environment by ADD. Korean Military's LIST model is applied to all systems(information system, weapon systems, non-weapon systems)' interoperability assessment defined in acquisition regulations by Joint Interoperability Test Center, a subordinate unit of Defense Command and Control Forces and the only assessment agency of defense interoperability. LISI was basically developed as an assessment model for information system's interoperability, but due to it's shortfall in assessing complex systems including information systems, weapon and non-weapon systems required from New environment SOSI(System of Systems Interoperability) has recently been researched and developed. On the other hand, it is inevitable that Korean Military's LISI model face fundamental limitations as an interoperability assessment tool for Defense Information System as well as for weapon and non-weapon systems, since it was benchmarked and reformed from the US LISI model. In order to overcome such limitations, MND and associated agencies are providing improvement methods through studies. This paper will provide LISI capability model's assessment criteria on Application(P), Infrastructure(I), Data(D), restraints of on comparison assessment process of unit systems evaluated and politic alternatives to overcome the restraints.

The rapid tactical operation and mobility are getting important to recently developed the guided weapon systems. And military wants multi-purposes equipment to carry the war more easily. So military wants to have the equipment that can apply without any distinction about environment. For this reason, the robust design is getting more important now to guarantee survivability of equipment. In this paper, we try to check about structural integrity of Fire Control Unit(FCU) which is one of the guided weapon system using dynamic FEM analysis.

The Gun-Oreinted Anti-Air Warfare(GOAAW) which is still one of the important weapon systems of the vessel like the patrol killer to confront air threats comprises the components of the combat system - Command & Control(C2), Ballistic Calculation Unit, Sensors and Guns. In this paper, the GOAAW process of the patrol killer combat system is analyzed with probability and simulated to evaluate the effectiveness and capability of the GOAAW. As a result of the simulation, the performance measures of the GOAAW are discussed in the functional and operational aspects of the combat system.
