Efficient Media Publication Using SuperSQL Processor (SuperSQL처리계를 이용한 효과적인 미디어 출판)

  • In this paper, we propose an effective use of SuperSQL for efficient media publication that utilizes relational databases. SuperSQL is an enhanced SQL processing system that converts data stored in relational databases into a variety or applied formats, such as XML and HTML, as a result or query. In order to integrate various media generators in SuperSQL query processor, we discuss methods to prepare both for new media promptly and for efficient media publication processing system. This research makes two main contributions: (1) it is a study about methods to integrate media generators by combining common processes in SuperSQL query processor, and (2) it introduces the trinity data model, which divide the media generating processes into three aspects, which are value, structure and medium abstraction. We also show the good performance and feasibility of our system.

Design Issues in Network Adaptive Delivery and its Networking Support for Continuous Media (연속적인 미디어를 위한 네트워크 적응형 전송 및 네트워킹 지원 설계 이슈들)

  • Delivering rich and continuous media contents robustly over a wide range of network conditions of the wired/wireless Internet is a highly challenging task. To address this challenges, the continuous media applications at the edge of network has become more and more adaptive while the best-effort Internet is slowly progressing towards improved networking services. That is, the role of network adaptive media delivery, which dynamically links the quality demand of application contents to the underlying networking services, has become more crucial. In this paper, we will first review the required network adaptation functionalities seen from the application side: congestion control / rate control, error control, and synchronization / adaptive playout. Then, we start the coverage of networking support issues that helps the realization of network adaptive media streaming - from network support and protocol support toward consolidated support via middleware. Finally, we propose a dynamic network adaptation framework that efficiently leverages its awareness of both media application (including contents) and underlying networking support.

Constructing Negative Links from Multi-facet of Social Media

  • Various types of social media make the people share their personal experience in different ways. In some social networking sites. Some users post their reviews, some users can support these reviews with comments, and some users just rate the reviews as kind of support or not. Unfortunately, there is rare explicit negative comments towards other reviews. This means if there is a link between two users, it must be positive link. Apparently, the negative link is invisible in these social network. Or in other word, the negative links are redundant to positive links. In this work, we first discuss the feature extraction from social media data and propose new method to compute the distance between each pair of comments or reviews on social media. Then we investigate whether we can predict negative links via regression analysis when only positive links are manifested from social media data. In particular, we provide a principled way to mathematically incorporate multi-facet data in a novel framework, Constructing Negative Links, CsNL to predict negative links for discovering the hidden information. Additionally, we investigate the ways of solution to general negative link predication problems with CsNL and its extension. Experiments are performed on real-world data and results show that negative links is predictable with multi-facet of social media data by the proposed framework CsNL. Essentially, high prediction accuracy suggests that negative links are redundant to positive links. Further experiments are performed to evaluate coefficients on different kernels. The results show that user generated content dominates the prediction performance of CsNL.

  • This study is an empirical study on how factors such as social factor, entertainment factor on the Wechat social media platform affect users' flow and addiction to use. Researchers thought that despite the increasing addiction of social media Wechat users, existing social media research is limited to service quality and satisfaction, so research on user flow and addiction is necessary. Therefore, the researchers try to through empirical analysis, the WeChat use to addiction path to social factor (social interactivity, payable) and entertainment factor (entertainment, life relevance), examine how WeChat user experience affects the use intention and satisfaction, and determine its role in the user's WeChat addiction and flow, and tested. The results of this study are expected to provide a new theoretical basis for future research on addiction use of social media.

Examining the Effects of Perceived Value of Social Media on the Brand Relationship Quality: The Moderating Role of Self-Esteem (소셜 미디어의 인지된 가치가 브랜드관계품질에 미치는 영향에 관한 탐색적 연구: 자기존중감 조절 효과)

  • According to the previous studies about relationship marketing, customers who have relationship with preferable brand or company take spontaneous word of mouth(WOM) and make more purchases than those who don't. Recently, as e-commerce has been combined with social media, many companies that are looking for solution which can promote customer relationship quality using social media. This study aims to investigate the role of customer's perceived value on brand relationship quality in social media. Although perceived value has been defined from many perspectives, we only consider "perceived social value" and "perceived emotional value" in this paper. According to social capital theory, self-esteem is an important variable when we explain the relationships. Thus this paper considers "self-esteem" as a moderating variable between relationship quality and relationship retention. To serve the research purpose, we collect 226 valid questionnaires from social media users. And we analyze data set and test research hypotheses by using SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20. We expect that the result contain a lot of implication for both researchers and practitioners. Major findings from analyzing 226 valid questionnaires are as follows. First, when customer recognizes social value about brand or company, relationship quality with the brand or company has been improved. Second, when customer recognizes emotional value about brand or company, relationship retain intention with the brand or company has been improved. Third, self-esteem doesn't have moderating effect between relationship quality and relationship retention in social media.

The Effects of Immersion and Self-efficacy on Continuous Usage Intention of Realistic Media (몰입감과 자기 효능감이 실감 미디어의 지속적 활용의도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study empirically analyzed the effects of immersion and self-efficacy on the intention to continuously use realistic media. To this end, we used an extended technology acceptance model that includes not only the perceived ease of use and usefulness, but also the perceived joy as important factors. We collected data from 595 participants through an online questionnaire survey and tested the research model using a covariance-based SEM. As a result, we found that a user's immersion significantly increased perceived usefulness, ease of use, and joy of realistic media; and self-efficacy increased perceived usefulness and ease of use. Although the effect of perceived usefulness was relatively stronger than that of perceived joy, we found that the effect of perceived joy on the intention to use was also quite large. The effect of perceived ease of use on intention to use was found to be completely mediated by perceived usefulness and joy. In addition, the differences according to the types of media were tested by comparing two groups: augmented reality and virtual reality. The effects of perceived ease, usefulness, and joy on the intention to use were very similar regardless of the type of immersive media. However, it was found that self-efficacy increases usefulness only in augmented reality. Based on our findings, we have discussed the implications of our study, as well as the scope for future research.

Social Media News in Crisis? Popularity Analysis of the Top Nine Facebook Pages of Bangladeshi News Media

  • Social media has become a popular source of information around the world. Previous studies explored different trends of social media news consumption. However, no studies have focused on Bangladesh to date, where social media penetration is very high in recent years. To fill this gap, this research aimed to understand its popularity trends during the period. For that reason, this work analyzes 97.67 million page likes and 3.48 billion interaction data collected from nine Bangladeshi news media's Facebook pages between December 2016 to November 2020. The analysis shows that the growth rates of page likes and interaction rates declined during this period. It suggests that the media's Facebook pages are gradually losing their popularity among Facebook users, which may have two more interpretations: Facebook's aggregate appeal as a news source is decreasing to users, or Bangladeshi media's appeal is eroding to Facebook users. These findings challenge the previous results, i.e., Facebook's demand as a news source is increasing with time. We offer four explanations of the decreased popularity of Facebook's news: information overload, exposure to incidental news, users' selective exposure and different aims of using Facebook, and conflict between media agendas and users' interests. Some theoretical and practical significance of the results has been discussed as well.

Novel View Generation Using Affine Coordinates

  • In this paper we present an algorithm to generate new views of a scene, starting with images from weakly calibrated cameras. Errors in 3D scene reconstruction usually gets reflected in the quality of the new scene generated, so we seek a direct method for reprojection. In this paper, we use the knowledge of dense point matches and their affine coordinate values to estimate the corresponding affine coordinate values in the new scene. We borrow ideas from the object recognition literature, and extend them significantly to solve the problem of reprojection. Unlike the epipolar line intersection algorithms for reprojection which requires at least eight matched points across three images, we need only five matched points. The theory of reprojection is used with hardware based rendering to achieve fast rendering. We demonstrate our results of novel view generation from stereopairs for arbitrary locations of the virtual camera.

Turbulence in Clusters of Galaxies

  • Clusters of galaxies are the largest virialized structures in the universe, which serve as laboratories for the study of astrophysical processes on very large scales. Observations and theoretical arguments suggest that intracluster media is turbulent. The media are very hot and dynamic, highly rarefied, and probably magnetized at some level. The physics involved is complex and high-resolution simulations help us understand the physics and consequent phenomena. We are engaged in a simulation study designed to understand in this context how subsonic turbulence with very weak initial magnetic fields develops and evolves with imposed forcing. We find that the resulting turbulence is sensitive to the nature of forcing as well as the dissipation properties of the media.

  • Each reproducing speech signal has each particular signal property, because of the processing of encoding and decoding for communications through various media. In this paper, we examine the correlation between speech signal quality and sensory pleasure for the sensory improvement of that signal. In experiments, we evaluate the quality of speech signals through various media by psychological auditory test and physical features of these signals.
