Real-time Image Transmission on the Internet Using Wavelet Transform and Neural Network (웨이블릿변환과 신경회로에 의한 칼라 동영상의 실시간 전송)

  • 본 논문에서는 TCP/IP 기반에서 웨이블릿 변환과 신경회로(Neural Network)를 이용하여 실시간으로 동영상 전송을 위한 알고리즘에 대해 연구하였다. 우선, 서버에서 카메라를 이용하여 영상을 획득한다. 획득한 영상에 대해 2 단계 웨이블릿 변환을 한 후, 인터넷을 통하여 수신 측으로 전송한다. 그 다음, 수신 측에서는 동영상을 보이기 위해, 제한된 시간 안에 수신한 이미지 프레임(image frame)만을 가지고 역웨이블릿변환을 하여 보여주게 된다. 만약 네트워크에 혼잡이 발생하게 되면 소량의 이미지 프레임 만을 전송하도록 하였다. 수신 측에서는 네트워크의 혼잡 정도를 송신 측에 특별한 목적으로 제안된 프레임을 전송함으로써 알려주도록 하였으며, 송신 측에서는 이러한 정보를 수신한 후 역전파 신경회로(back-propagation neural network)를 이용하여 송신할 데이터의 양(data rate)을 조절하여줌으로써 네트워크 속도에 대처하도록 하였다. 이러한 방법을 통해서 우리는 네트워크의 혼잡에 알맞게 조정된 동영상의 스트림(stream)을 보낼 수 있었다.

Fast 3D reconstruction using wavelet transform (웨이블릿 변환을 이용한 빠른 3D modeling)

  • 본 논문에서는 웨이블릿 변환을 이용하여 추정된 변위 벡터와 이를 이용한 물체의 분할을 통해 특징 점을 추출하고 3차원 와이어 프레임(wire-frame)을 생성하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 우선, 웨이블릿 변환을 이용하여 빠른 시간 안에 변위를 측정하고, 이를 통해 배경과 물체를 분리해 내었다. 그런 뒤에, 변위 벡터를 이용하여, 깊이 정보를 추정해 내고, 동시에 물체로부터 두드러진 특징 값들을 추출하여 3차원 와이어 프레임 생성을 위한 거리 값으로 사용하였다. 마지막으로, 일반적인 delaunay triangulation에서 생길 수 있는 오 정합을 본 논문에서 제안하는 전경/배경 분할 알고리즘을 이용하여 제거 하여 정확한 3차원 모델을 생성하였다. 아울러, 본 논문에서 제안하는 웨이블릿을 이용한 빠른 3D 모델링 방법을 원 영상을 이용한 방법과 비교하여, 더 좋은 결과를 보여줌으로써, 계산 시간 뿐만 아니라 정확성에서도 만족할 만한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

Noise Cancellation Algorithm of Bone Conduction Speech Signal using Feature of Noise in Separated Band (밴드 별 잡음 특징을 이용한 골전도 음성신호의 잡음 제거 알고리즘)

  • In mobile communication, air conduction(AC) speech signal had been commonly used, but it was easily affected by ambient noise environment such as emergency, military action and rescue. To overcome the weakness of the AC speech signal, bone conduction(BC) speech signal have been used. The BC speech signal is transmitted through bone vibration, so it is affected less by the background noise. In this paper, we proposed noise cancellation algorithm of the BC speech signal using noise feature of decomposed bands. The proposed algorithm consist of three steps. First, the BC speech signal is divided into 17 bands using perceptual wavelet packet decomposition. Second, threshold is calculated by noise feature during short time of separated-band and compared to absolute average of the signal frame. Therefore, the speech and noise parts are detected. Last, the detected noise parts are removed and then, noise eliminated bands are re-synthesised. In order to confirm the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, we compared the proposed algorithm with conventional algorithm. And the proposed algorithm has better performance than the conventional algorithm.

Fire-Smoke Detection Based on Video using Dynamic Bayesian Networks (동적 베이지안 네트워크를 이용한 동영상 기반의 화재연기감지)

  • This paper proposes a new fire-smoke detection method by using extracted features from camera images and pattern recognition technique. First, moving regions are detected by analyzing the frame difference between two consecutive images and generate candidate smoke regions by applying smoke color model. A smoke region generally has a few characteristics such as similar color, simple texture and upward motion. From these characteristics, we extract brightness, wavelet high frequency and motion vector as features. Also probability density functions of three features are generated using training data. Probabilistic models of smoke region are then applied to observation nodes of our proposed Dynamic Bayesian Networks (DBN) for considering time continuity. The proposed algorithm was successfully applied to various fire-smoke tasks not only forest smokes but also real-world smokes and showed better detection performance than previous method.

Fast Computation of DWT and JPEG2000 using GPU (GPU를 이용한 DWT 및 JPEG2000의 고속 연산)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method for Processing DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) on GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). Since the DWT and EBCOT (embedded block coding with optimized truncation) are the most complicated submodules in JPEG2000, we design a high-performance processing framework for performing DWT using the fragment shader of GPU based on the render-to-texture (RTT) architecture. Experimental results show that the performance increases significantly, in which DWT running on modern GPU is more than 10 times faster than on modern CPU. Furthermore, by replacing the DWT part of Jasper which is the JPEG2000 reference software, the overall processing is 2$\sim$16 times faster than the original JasPer. The GPU-driven render-to-texture architecture proposed in this paper can be used in the general image and computer vision processing for high-speed processing.

  • 오늘날 멀티미디어 정보의 양이 매우 빠른 속도로 증가함에 따라 멀티미디어 데이타베이스에 대한 효율적인 관리는 더욱 중요한 의미를 가지게 되었다. 게다가 영상과 같은 비 문자형태의 데이타에 대한 사용자들의 내용기반 검색욕구 증가로 인해 비디오 인덱싱에 대한 관심은 더욱 고조되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 우선적으로 분할된 샷 경계면에서 추출된 대표 프레임과 정지 영상 데이타베이스로부터 유사 영상과 유사 대표 프레임을 검색할 수 있는 환경을 제공한다. 우선적으로 영상에 의한 질의는 기존에 주로 사용되어온 색상 히스토그램방식을 탈피하여 본 논문에서 제안하는 CS와 GS방식을 이용하여 색상 및 방향성 정보도 고려하도록 설계하였다. 또한 얼굴에 의한 질의는 대표 프레임으로부터 얼굴 영역을 추출해 내고 얼굴의 경계선 값 및 쌍 직교 웨이블릿 변환에 의해 얻어진 2개의 특징값을 이용하여 유사 인물이 포함된 대표 프레임을 검색해 내도록 설계하였다. Abstract There is a rapid increase in the use of digital video information in recent years, it becomes more important to manage multimedia databases efficiently. There is a big concern about video indexing because users require content-based image retrieval. In this paper, we first propose query-by-image system environment which allows to retrieve similar images from the chosen representative frames or images from the image databases. This algorithm considers not only the discretized color histogram but also the proposed directional information called CS & GS method. Finally, we designe another query environment using query-by-face. In this system , user selects a people in the representative frame browser and then system extracts a face region from that frame. After that system retrieves similar representative frames using 2 features, edge information and biorthogonal wavelet transform.

Fast Vehicle Detection based on Haarlike and Vehicle Tracking using SURF Method (Haarlike 기반의 고속 차량 검출과 SURF를 이용한 차량 추적 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes vehicle detection and tracking algorithm using a CCD camera. The proposed algorithm uses Haar-like wavelet edge detector to detect features of vehicle and estimates vehicle's location using calibration information of an image. After that, extract accumulated vehicle information in continuous k images to improve reliability. Finally, obtained vehicle region becomes a template image to find same object in the next continuous image using SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features). The template image is updated in the every frame. In order to reduce SURF processing time, ROI(Region of Interesting) region is limited on expended area of detected vehicle location in the previous frame image. This algorithm repeats detection and tracking progress until no corresponding points are found. The experimental result shows efficiency of proposed algorithm using images obtained on the road.

A Video Watermarking Using 3D DWT and Binary Image Watermark (3차원 웨이블릿 변환과 이진 영상 워터마크를 이용한 비디오 워터마킹)

  • An effective video watermarking algorithm is proposed to protect the copyright. The watermarking procedure is based on a three-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (3D DWT) and spread spectrum sequences. Two perceptual binary watermarks are preprocessed using mixing and pseudorandom permutation. After dividing the video sequence into video shots, the 3D DWT is performed, then the preprocessed watermarks are embedded into the 3D DWT coefficients, while considering robustness and invisibility, using two spread spectrum sequences defined as the user key. Experimental results show that the watermarked frames are subjectively indistinguishable from the original frames, plus the proposed video watermarking algorithm is sufficiently robust against such attacks as low pass filtering, frame dropping, frame average, and MPEG coding.

Adaptive Hierarchical Hexagon Search Using Spatio-temporal Motion Activity (시공간 움직임 활동도를 이용한 적응형 계층 육각 탐색)

  • In video coding, motion estimation is a process to estimate the pixel of the current frame from the reference frame, which affects directly the predictive quality and the encoding time. This paper is related to AHHS(Adaptive Hierarchical Hexagon Search) using spatio-temporal motion activity for fast motion estimation. The proposed method defines the spatio-temporal motion activity of the current macroblock using the motion vectors of its spatio-temporally adjacent macroblocks, and then conventional AHS(Adaptive Hexagon Search) is performed if the spatio-temporal motion activity is lower, otherwise, hierarchical hexagon search is performed on a multi-layered hierarchical space constructed by multiple sub-images with low frequency in wavelet transform. In the paper, based on computer simulation results for multiple video sequences with different motion characteristics, the performance of the proposed method was analysed and assessed in terms of the predictive quality and the computational time. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is both suitable for (quasi-) stationary and large motion searches. The proposed method could keep the merit of the adaptive hexagon search capable of fast estimating motion vectors and also adaptively reduce the local minima occurred in the video sequences with higher spatio-temporal motion activity.

Seismic damage estimation through measurable dynamic characteristics

  • Ductility based design of reinforced concrete structures implicitly assumes certain damage under the action of a design basis earthquake. The damage undergone by a structure needs to be quantified, so as to assess the post-seismic reparability and functionality of the structure. The paper presents an analytical method of quantification and location of seismic damage, through system identification methods. It may be noted that soft ground storied buildings are the major casualties in any earthquake and hence the example structure is a soft or weak first storied one, whose seismic response and temporal variation of damage are computed using a non-linear dynamic analysis program (IDARC) and compared with a normal structure. Time period based damage identification model is used and suitably calibrated with classic damage models. Regenerated stiffness of the three degrees of freedom model (for the three storied frame) is used to locate the damage, both on-line as well as after the seismic event. Multi resolution analysis using wavelets is also used for localized damage identification for soft storey columns.
