Water waves propagate over irregular bottom bathymetry are transformed by refraction, diffraction, shoaling, reflection etc. Principal factor of wave transform is bottom bathymetry, but in case of current field, current is another important factor which effect wave transformation. The governing equation of this study is develope as wave-current equation type to investigate the effect of wave-current interaction. It starts from Berkhoff's(1972) mild slope equation and is transformed to time-dependent hyperbolic type equation by using variational principal. Finally the governing equation is shown as a parabolic type equation by splitting method. This wave-current model was applied to the kwangan beach which is located at Pusan. The numerical simulation results of this model show the characteristics of wave transformation and flow pattern around the Kwangan beach fairly well.

An OWC-type Wave Energy Conversion passes through 3 steps energy conversion process. This paper deal with the internal oscillating flow and effect of shape of air chamber and duct at setting place of turbine by numerical analysis using commercial CFD code, FLUENT. Air chamber and duct in OWC-type wave energy conversion are adopting sudden expanded and contracted form for high-efficiency. So, whole oscillating flow from OWC-type chamber to outlet duct through duct was solved by steady and unsteady analysis in order that flow efficiency of air chamber and duct was made better.

The hydrodynamic instability of the three-dimensional boundary layer on a rotating disk introduces a periodic modulation of the mean flow in the form of stationary cross flow vortices. The instability labeled Type II by Faller occurs first at lower Reynolds number than that of well known Type I instability. Detailed numerical values of the amplification rates, neutral curves and other characteristics of the two instabilities have been calculated over a wide range of parameters. Presented are the neutral stability results concerning the two instability modes by solving the appropriate linear stability equations reformulated not only by considering whole convective terms but also by correcting some errors in the previous stability equations. The present stability results agree with the previously known ones within reasonable limit. Consequently, the flow is found to be always stable for a disturbance whose dimensionless wave number is greater than 0.75. Some spatial amplification contours have been computed for the stationary disturbance wave, whose azimuth angle $\varepsilon$= 11.29$^{\circ}$ to 15$^{\circ}$ and for the moving disturbance wave, whose azimuth angle $\varepsilon$ = 12.5$^{\circ}$ to 15$^{\circ}$. Also, some temporal amplification contours have been computed for the stationary disturbance wave, whose azimuth angle $\varepsilon$= 11.29$^{\circ}$ to 15$^{\circ}$ and for the moving disturbance wave, whose azimuth angle $\varepsilon$= 12$^{\circ}$ to 15$^{\circ}$. The flow instability was observed by using a white titanium tetrachloride gas over rotating disk system. When the numerical results are compared to the present experimental data, the numerical results agree quantitatively, indicating the existence of the selective frequency mechanism.

The fluctuation of inlet flow to a water treatment plant makes a serious problem that it can change the outlet flow-rate from each process abruptly, and ultimately occur the detachment of the attached particles inside each unit process. Also, since it takes very short time for the surface wave occurred from the fluctuation of inlet flow to reach the latter processes, it is impossible for operators to cope with that stably. Therefore this study was conducted to suggest the methodology for accurately predicting the travel time of surface wave occurred from the fluctuation of inlet flow to reach the latter process. Through the experiment, which was carried out for the full-scale water treatment plants(capacity : 2,000m3/d), it could be confirmed that the flow rate fluctuation from equalization tank produce the surface wave. And the wave transfer velocity is a function of the hydraulic radius and the length of each open type tanks which are comprised in the latter processes.

A general purpose viscous flow solver Ansys CFX is used to study a Savonius type wave energy converter in a 3D numerical viscous wave tank. This paper presents the results of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of the effect of blade configuration on the performance of 3 bladed Savonius rotors for wave energy extraction. A piston-type wave generator was incorporated in the computational domain to generate the desired incident waves. A complete OWC system with a 3-bladed Savonius rotor was modeled in a three dimensional numerical wave tank and the hydrodynamic conversion efficiency was estimated. The flow over the rotors is assumed to be two-dimensional (2D), viscous, turbulent and unsteady. The CFX code is used with a solver of the coupled conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy, with an implicit time scheme and with the adoption of the hexahedral mesh and the moving mesh techniques in areas of moving surfaces. Turbulence is modeled with the k.e model. Simulations were carried out simultaneously for the rotor angle and the helical twist. The results indicate that the developed models are suitable to analyze the water flows both in the chamber and in the turbine. For the turbine, the numerical results of torque were compared for all the cases.

Recently, as part of diversifying energy sources and earth environmental issues, technology development of new renewable energy using wave energy is actively promoted and commercialized around Europe and Japan etc. In particular, OWC(Oscillating Water Column) wave power generation system using air flow induced by vertical movement of the water surface by waves in an air-chamber within caisson is known as the most efficient wave energy absorption device and therefore, is one of the wave power generation apparatus the closest to commercialization. This study examines air flow velocity, which operates turbine(Wells turbine) directly in oscillating water column type wave power generation structure from two-and three-dimensional numerical experiments and discusses optimal shape of oscillating water column type wave power generation structure by estimating the maximum flow rate of air according to change in shape. The three-dimensional numerical wave flume was applied in interpretation for this study which is the model for the immiscible two-phase flow based on the Navier-Stokes Equation. From this, it turned out that size of optimal shape appears differently according to the incident wave period and air flow is maximized at the period where minimum reflection ratio occurs.
The objective of this study is to clarify the detailed performances of the impulse type radial turbine and to present an optimum configuration of the turbine. The impulse type radial turbine has been manufactured and investigated experimentally under steady and sinusoidally oscillating flow conditions by model testing. Then, the starting characteristics under sinusoidally flow conditions have been evaluated by a numerical simulation using a quasi-steady analysis. As a result, the running and starting characteristics of the impulse type radial turbine for wave energy conversion have been clarified. Furthermore, the recommended configuration is presented, especially for setting angles of inner and outer guide vanes.
The hydrodynamic stability of the Karman boundary-layer flow due to a rotating disk has been numerically investigated for moving disturbance waves. The disturbed flow over a rotating disk can lead to transition at much lower Re than that of the well-known Type I instability mode. This early transition is due to the excitation of the Type II instability mode of moving disturbances. Presented are the neutral stability results concerning the two instability modes by solving new linear stability equations reformulated not only by considering whole convective terms but by correcting some errors in the previous stability equations. The reformulated stability equations are slightly different with the previous ones. However, the present neutral stability results are considerably different with the previously known ones. It is found that the flow is always stable for a disturbance whose dimensionless wave number k is greater than 0.75.
A compressible two-fluid two-phase flow computation model using the stiffened-gas equation of state is formulated. Since the conservation equation system is of mixed type, it gives complex eigenvalues. The sonic speeds obtained from the individual single phase have been simply used in the literature for the fastest wave speeds necessary in the HLL scheme. This method has worked fine but proved to be quite diffusive according to our test. To improve the accuracy, we here propose to utilize the analytic eigenvalues evaluated from an approximate Jacobian matrix lot the fastest wave speeds. The interfacial transfer terms were dropped in constituting the Jacobian matrix for this purpose. The present scheme proved efficient, robust and accurate in comparison with other existing methods. We solved the cavitating flow problem using the present scheme. The result shows more detailed wave structure in the cavitating process caused by the strong expansion waves.
